The announcement that Snail Games would be bringing Dark & Light to the world in the very near future caught many fans off guard. We took the opportunity to reach out to Product Manager Shen Yan to learn more about Dark & Light, how it's changed over the years and what players can expect in what developers call "even more of a sandbox" than ever before.

I thought that maybe things could have changed for this game/company but then I read this in the first comment from the Product Manager:

"Dark and Light was considered a breakthrough MMORPG when it first came out, "

I dont think anyone considered this game a "breakthrough" MMO when it first came out unless they are commenting on how bad it was. It did set an entirely new standard for suckage. If these guys are still fooling themselves that their initial product was fantastic then they have not learned much in 12 years

Ah hell, been a while since anything looked interesting on the near horizon, count me as very interested.

PVP and PVE servers, smart move IMO, and bucking recent trends.

I'm curious to know if all reward systems will be based on crafting? I can't stand the thought of adventuring for crafting components on top of foraging and gathering. If I can't kill the local lich for a chance at a staff of doom, then I'll never even try this game.

How about killing the Lich for the "Black Heart of the Staff of Doom"?

I'm not holding my breath for this game though. I don't believe game producers these days are even close to understanding what it takes to make a "Sandbox".
I'm expecting a lot more promises and PR than actual follow through. As per the norm.

Interesting...and I love the two server types. So many games now try to make both sides happy with pvp and pve and in the end, neither side is happy. This is how you do it, two server types...wish more games would get back to this style.

If you know anything about Age Of Wulin then you would know that Snail Games know how to incorporate a robust PK system.

Been waiting for this game since 2011 when we first saw the new concept at ChinaJoy 2011. At that time they we're calling it my name sake, Savage Horizon. I going to buy it on the PS4 Neo instead of my PC.

I can remember being very excited for DnL back in the day and then it was horrible. I will check it out for nostalgia sake.

Hopefully Snail will have options on payment models as well as server types.

An optional subscription that deactivates the cash shop would be a very welcome feature.

I don't know why people are getting excited about this game when it is well known how Snail games monetize their games.

Unless I see a very different monetization scheme, I will pass no matter how good the game looks.

    Sounds promising.

I find ESO's model to be a good compromise.

It's called promotion.  I'm sure they're aware of what happened.  They aren't gonna say 'we're bringing back our terrible sucky game.  Hopefully it sticks this time'

Bad company history , bad Dark and Light history ...yet, this sounds interesting and as @Kyleran said , it's been awhile since we saw/heard something good in the MMO market !

    Hope they deliver!

I was a Settler and played the orginal for the 2 years it was up ,and thru all its technical and legal difficulties that led to its ultimate demise , there was a great concept and good game in there an immersive World with great skill based system , GMs ran some good events that kept us interested during the slow death ... (they tirelessly worked and promoted the events , was a good time ..

Would of been very cool to hear that Snail was keeping the Settler stones in place when they reworked the game , was a nice concept to have that monument in your name , you could place anywhere in the world with a lengthy message ...

Dragon flight was very well done and was just awesome soaring to the heights and exploring , finding a quiet spot to grind ... Or hunt those bad guys :)

If Snail manages to launch D&L with the original concepts in place, with the new engine and without a P2W Cashop attached , they will have a hit on there hands and many will be pleasantly surprised ...

I was really interested in this game until I saw it uses 'Action Combat'. I'm an old fart. I loathe action combat! I just don't have the reflexes for it.

Anyway, I'll keep an eye on it. Maybe there'll be lots of other things to do, so people who can't handle action combat can avoid having to fight stuff.
