Sandi Gardiner Stops Social Media Over Targeted Harrassment

Star Citizen News - Star Citizen VP of Marketing Sandi Gardiner is "taking a break from social media" over what she calls "ongoing online targeted harassment". No further information is given, but many in a Reddit thread of support for Ms Gardiner attribute the issue to a certain vitriolic element that has been loudly critical of Star Citizen, Chris Roberts, the game's development, and ostensible mismanagement of finances earned through KickStarter and later fundraising campaigns.

This just infuriates me. People can claim all day long that this has nothing to do with gender but that is categorically untrue. It has everything to do with the fact that she's a female. Stir in a helping of being a visible personality, Chris Roberts' wife and a member of the Star Citizen team and it's like the perfect storm for haters.

Ugh. I hope they figure out who it is and sue the ever-living crap out of them.

I don't think it's because she is a female... some people have a beef with Star Citizen overall and she seems to be easiest target to go against. Everything she does or says will be used against her, both Star Citizen related up to her personal life. We can't talk of harassment of her without mentioning Derek Smart, allow me to paste a resume made of what goes from him alone against Sandi Gardiner....

• Calls for her resignation

• Posting More Videos with Sandi
• Posting pictures of her Child along with the kid's name
• More proof of posting images of her daughters, along with their home address
• Calls her an academic fraud This from the guy who according to some reports, got his PHD from a non-acrediteddiploma mill, 2.

That's just Twitter.

• He talks about her on Youtube
• Talking about her on his forums
• Talking about her on other people's forums, saying she's a fraud
• Talking about her on TwitLonger
• Talking about her on his blogs

Why all the attacks? He says

• Because he was banned.
• He heard stuff about the way she treats employees (no proof given)
• He doesn't think she's qualified.

Are this perfectly reasonable reasons to post pictures of their children, their resumes, their marital status, videos, e-mails, scantily clad pictures, their childrens' names,etc?

I .. think she needs to learn how to use internet, especially forum websites and alike! It is the internet after all and she is a VP of marketing in a "weird" company. She definitely needs to also learn how to handle her emotions. I mean, it's not that hard. Read a few line from a comment , don't like what you've just read? Good! Ignore the whole comment and move along !

@SBFord ! Really ? Sue them? If I would have invested/gave them money for a cause which was/is SC and at some point the whole idea collapse ( from my point of view ) , I would do the following :

*1) /ignore /refund
*2) /TROLL /ignore /refund
*3) /Keepmymoney & /Iwilltrollyoueverytimeirememberaboutyou ... & ask /refund later !

* The above will depend on my mood

PS : A woman , saying the women are harassed more often then men because ... /female ?

 I've only sporadically followed all the goings on with Star Citizen, which obviously includes all the "drama". From someone who has only been following the highlights, I don't think it has much to do with her being a woman and more everything to do with her being in a leadership position in CIG. Obviously DS has an axe to grind and I can't stand the man, but the more I read the latest snippets from both sides, the worse everyone involved appears. I'm a big fan of company personalities staying out of the social media limelight, it always seems to end in harassment or embarrassment.

How about she come clean about lying about her degrees and why her marriage between her and Roberts was being covered up for so long.

I'm also of the mind that sex has nothing to do with it. I also believe that by her declaration she is giving the culprits a sense of victory which will just encourage more harassment to her or other parties.

Sad to say but it's like being a child in school: Never let the other children see you cry or they will harass you all the more.

I was listening to the dames of destiny stream back in the day when destiny was played and i can tell you, some of the comments made to them was horrid. From sexual jokes to sheer lack of respect it was a sad day. Sadly it was the last stream i attended of theirs due to this. I think gamers need to take a step back and remember gender means nothing when it comes to doing what we love such as games. We are here to have fun and enjoy these works of art (or failures) and we should not treat anyone differently due to gender.

Sad is we accepting this kind of behavior that keeps getting worse. Sad is that we reached a point that when a developer delays their game receives death threats (No Man's Sky). 

One thing is attack the person his work, another completely different thing is stalking the person's personal life and even their family, attempting to setup a public humiliation show.

I gotta go with @MaxBacon on this one. I doubt it has anything to do with her gender, and more with who she's married to and the company she works for. Star Citizen is a game that's got some very loyal fans, but that also inspires some very fervent haters. Unfortunately for the poor woman, she's an easy target.

Besides, it's not like male devs haven't been targeted on social media in the past. And have even left the game industry as a result of the harassment. I imagine it also makes Chris Roberts unhappy to see his wife treated like this, so they're hurting him by proxy.

Yeah 100% agree with you on the last part.

The objective was always hit Chris Roberts but they couldn't, so they found a weak spot on his wife. It makes sense, hurting CR's family does hurt CR, so that may very well be the intention.

Unfortunately i'm afraid this will just incentivate more attacks upon her, to a point she might end up resigning. I wouldn't blame her, at least she could get her life back without worry about anything she does or says being used against her. Nobody deserves harassment, specially when it is done by using you as a mean to an end.

Other than her working for Star Citizen and being part of the head of social media, she's a target to the very very loud 'haters' that SC has gathered. But to say "it has everything to do with the fact that she's a female" is not something I think is true.

It's always a curious case when the righteous pearl clutchers who talk of CIG's immoral business practices can not hold those same lofty goals of morality for people actively taking their personal issues with said company out on a person just pulling a paycheck.
