Edit: Items can be sold on AH, just found out. People have a right to be upset about this after the company said they would never go P2W. This pretty much screams disadvantages to normal, non-microtransaction players.
But, if non-microtransaction players can buy from the AH the same items that microtransaction players buy for real money.... why is that P2W? everyone is getting access to the same items. Now if the items being bought with real money have a power advantage then yes, that is a problem even if other people can buy it from them with in game money because it will be priced stupidly high so they can't get it.

So basically you will get Russian FTP version, only you still must buy the game lol! Seems that everything Russians have, sooner or later you will have also, like their new cash shop RNG boxes with boss loot and all that kind of endgame best items.

This is completely expected as KR allows this and players selling cash shop items is the #1 source of revenue.

Kakao got their box sales, they got their cash shop revenue and then subscription but they just need more income to keep the game running in the west.

This will bring in more money than subs and all cash shop sales combined so far.

Smart move for Kakao and PA.

Also great news for us that have a ton of silver and can buy items without spending money.
"Great news" is a surprising position.

"Great news" is a surprising position.

From a developer standpoint this will generate a huge amount of revenue.

The attrition players have already paid so Kakao have that money already.

Just look at it from business perspective and not player perspective

The next thing they need to do is merge the servers into 1 NA 20 channel and 1 EU 20 channel cluster

They tried to avoid cash shop to in game currency transfer, but it just didn't work out.

I can only speak for myself I saved a ton of silver for this exact event - will fibally be able to get some pearl store items withour spending any cash.

I always look at gaming issues from more perspectives including the business one (where relevant). I definitely agree with what you said - that for them, it will be positive in terms of revenues.

What surprised me was that the one time advantage based on an ability to spend your savings overweighs all the other implications this decision has and makes it "great news" for you.

Btw whats up with the double quotes :)

Im not playing the game atm and dont know how economy works, but im playing a game with a similar system and this is not the worse part, the worse will come later in a disguised form (im only predicting, hope i will be wrong):

    - This system to give them money, they need people selling the CC items and people buying them, so epected for now on changes in some patchs that interfear with player economy. Im not a expert, but it will be something like create more silver needs for players like: decrease easy ways to make silvers, increase the silver needs putting a fee in every action, control the marketplace, etc.

Im play Archeage for 2 years allready, i had to adapt myself to a system i wasnt use to (allways prefer P2P without cs, but that time is gone), and im still a happy gamer there, because i dont dream to be on top and competitive in 1v1 and really i dont mind at all the player next to me spend 10k of euros and have 3k gear score above me.
The only thing that really bothers me, and i keep igoring because i really like to play the game in a overall picture, is the way the game is setup and getting worse on every patch / events is creating gold needs because without this in-game players dont spend real money, and that interfear my gameplay experience in a direct way.

Im sure, those who really like to play BDO will continue to play and just adapt themselfs to this "new" reality, just pay attention to the next patchs, events and dont follow in traps created only to player spend all the silvers they have increasing this way the chances to invest real money to keep going. I allways pay attention to that in AA and im just fine for now =)

IMPORTANT NOTE: Im just predicting things about a game i dont know, its all from a management prespective.

So I can buy costumes with in game currency sounds great. I am happy.
Same here. As I've said before on another thread, it's not like there aren't a bunch of people that out gear me big time already. So in that regard it won't make a difference to me.  And on the plus side, I can finally get those things I absolutely refused to spend money on (hello ghillie suit, and likely the fish suit too when the aquatic expansion hits).

I hate to be a cynic, but this has bait-and-switch written all over it. Launch B2P to get more revenue from box sales with the intention to aggressively monetize the game later. I knew they'd end up going P2W, but it is disappointing.

    Hey it's only five a week...lol.

Kinda a convoluted pay to win.  Although I don't think money is really that tough to come by in the game and I don't see many +15 items on the market.
Pretty much. And the only +15's you have a reasonable chance of seeing aren't BiS items. Goodluck buying a +15 Kzarka off the MP, or a TET just about anything. xD

i think its just better to be able to buy silver/gold ingame and be done with it
Are you happy that the game is going to be a ghost-town where you can't compete unless you grind constantly AND pay $150 a week?

All you care about is getting a "free" outfit?
  • BloodaxesBloodaxes Member RarePosts: 4,149
I was expecting them to add the item that changes gear into costumes before this step.

Seems like it will take much longer than expected. Imo having this item I'm mentioning being able to be sold in the auction house would have been fine if they did some discounts on their store once in a while.

Well we shall see if they at least listen to the outcry. Imo not everything in the store should be sell-able, maybe only the old stuff.

Move into right direction. Next step is to get rid of controlled market.

I'm confused on how this constitutes pay to win? Do costumes play a role in PvP? Do they give stat boosts? Do the provide an unfair advantage against other players?

They said "Value Package, Outfits, Costumes and Pets ", which seems mostly cosmetic to me, in which case, welcome to free to play and buy to play MMOs!

If Value Packages provide some gear with BiS stats, THEN there's something to complain about. If not, then common, we're been over this forums. Stop it.
BiS slot gear can all be purchased via the marketplace or night vendor...hence $$$>silver>BiS gear - get it?
Almost every game has this though.

I can't think of many MMO's where you can buy your way to BiS gear.

If people sell 5 of them a week, that's an extra 350 million they have out of thin air every week.
...are you sure you understand how that system works?
  • GladDogGladDog Member RarePosts: 986
    God damn it.
That's cuz you just dropped $29 on an outfit, right?

Actually I don't see the P2W aspect at all.  I have to rethink things now, I may actually be tempted to try this one now that costumes don't cost two months premium for premium games.

The world is going to the dogs, which is just how I planned it!

This is sad, While I was never super excited enough to buy this game, I did recognize it had a bigger polarization than most games. Meaning you either loved it or hated it. And those who loved it was still a substantial number.
For those who had the game they loved.....I do feel bad as you lost your "place".

    Aye.
Thankfully, WoW:Legion comes soon, and the invasions start next week along with Demon Hunter. Blizzard never ever disappointed me that way. And they never will.

This said, there's a massive uprising on the BDO forums in the thread about that. Be sure to post your disagreement. It's NOT live yet. Maybe seeing it's not an uprising, but rather a major riot, they will change their mind?
oh look is that guy. hi there!  guess whose are these words:

Amusing how those who actually play the game never use the cash hop, yet those who don't play but post misinformation all the time claim it's "P2W".

I just came back after finishing this:

So I defended the game while it was not P2W. Now that the company totally changed their stance, I no longer defend it.

yeh internet is a bitch. hard to hide the bullshit.

(they totally changed their stance .... ha! ...)

Nope! you changed your stance when enough time has passed for you to finally get it.

look what I wrote in that thread not long ago (where you attacked me of not playing the game, not knowing what p2w is etc ...)

p.s To people that white knighted the exp gain on  costumes. Well munchkins now with pets it is 19% and I am pretty sure they will give additional bonuses to cha-ching users. Just wait a mon.. ahem week or so.

In the same position, huge fan of the game, and now being let down by the company running it, its time to move on.
Honestly, if this is how Asian games are run, then thats the last time i ever play one, lesson learned.

It DISGUSTS me when companies say we do this because we want it to be accessable to every player (Nice guy act)  its a change that will make more sales happen because people want to get ingame currency this way..

Just say you add this to the game  without the (WE DO THIS FOR YOU!!!) bullshit fk off.

I'll be getting that 29 back and the rest of the 100 I spent on the game if the change goes through using a chargeback.

No, I'm upset because the game is amazing and they are planning on killing it...

To be honest, I won't charge back my purchase of the game because I still got way more than my money's worth out of it. It would be a dishonest move from me to deny the many months of fun I had from the game.

And be careful with charge backs, banks don't give them so easily. You will possibly get one for for costume, because this change directly affects that part of the game, but for the initial purchase... I doubt it.
