i personally sub to enough services that equals something like $200 a month, i don't want to start adding websites to that list too, i don't have an issue with the adds on this site, none of them are intrusive and you don't deliver popups on my screen.. so i'm happy enough having the ads here
I think it is great idea. Maybe even taking it a step further and offering supporter packages that could add some flair to user posts would be interesting also. I thought GGG did a good job with their beta support packs, but I don't know what you would include in yours. GGG support pack
I pay extra for so many little tings, a couple of bucks here and there for this and that, sub to streamers on twitch, donate to mod makers and even give Microsoft a few bucks a month for more cloud space..i am about done paying all the little extra's in online life. I really do not know what the future holds but if it does not stop somewhere...well you know the story here. My wallet has left the internet. (at least for now)
Fairly certain that the site would stay just the same for non subscribers. Just that people that paid the monthly fee would gain a ad free website. Atleast that is the hope and dream.
We may add one. But we want to hear your thoughts first.
I don't see it being anything but a positive way to generate revenue. While your at it ad a tiered cost say 3 5 10 bucks with early pick on beta keys and special offers etc, plus ad a donate button.
@mikeb I think the tying beta keys and special offers in with access makes sense.

We just wanted to take a quick poll to get your thoughts on the idea of us offering a $2.99/month ad-free experience option here at MMORPG.com.
Is this something you would be interested in us offering as a way to support the site?
Please vote and share your thoughts with us below!
I don't think this site's information warrants any kind of subscription and/or forced ads. If you guys would have come with something like this 5 years ago when this site was THE SOURCE for MMORPGs I'd go along with either sub or forced ads. But looking at the state of the site's information stream the last year, I'd say a LOUD NO. If either of the 2 is implemented I'll hop to an other site since there's enough competition...
Problem I have you want us gamers to support the site, yet I look in the forums and I see a few games that get free advertising daily. Also if I would pay a monthly fee to access site with no ads then how are any comments I or we make will be dealt with?
I just can't understand you saying you need to make money to keep site running and I agree you do! Yet you can't in the same breath allow some games to daily spam the site with info on a game free of any charges.
You need to be fair on all sides!
Sometimes it's not always about what you can see or hear but what's under the hood of a game that's most impressive. Between those thousands and thousands of lines of code, magic happens. Sometimes the most amazing feats of gaming wizardry happen without you even noticing.
You know massivelyop.com has no ads and uses patreon so that could be an option too but I understand that would have some kind of impact on the content.

This makes sense. In this day and age people underestimate the generosity and goodwill of others. Support your audience and they will support you. Look at all the kickstarters that got large amounts of money and failed but mmorpg.com has been around for years without donations.
This is only about making more money, it has nothing to do with covering costs. A site with this amount of traffic will already be making a very good profit.
$3 a YEAR maybe but $3 a month is higher than I would be willing to go for this site.
I also fear ye olde slippery slope where once a $3 per month thing is in, the site becomes completely inaccessible otherwise if you adblock, or the annoyance thing of yours becomes MUCH more annoying.

I used to pay more than $3 a month for video game magazines.
True but it is completely in control of the people that run the site as to which direction it could go. It does however seem to work fine for massivelyop where they give their subscribers/donators earlier access to their content then the gen pop which is why if you happen to look at their page they seem behind other sites and it is completely add free other than patreon and an amazon thing.
Ill tell you right now. You can implement it, and a lot of the "yes" voters have good intentions, but it won't work. It never does. The patreon system seems to work. Like what toucharcade does. Most of the people on this site are too cheap to pay 13 bucks for a game a month. You think they are gonna pay 3 bucks for no ads? They'll just block it.
I wouldn't sub at $2.99, but I wouldn't be offended if it was an option. The ads are atrocious on this site, but I understand you gotta pay the rent somehow.

I remember paying something like 50-60 USD a year for gaming magazines back in the day. Asking for $36 a year is completely reasonable for an ad-free experience.
I don't think I would pay to lose the adds on a website even one I frequent as much as this one. Its like a slippery slope. I may pay $50 a month for having no ads anywhere on anything, plus no spammy phone calls or people at my door
Optional $2.99/month? O.o Good luck with that. I am sure there will be those that will pony up the monthly fee for preferred treatment (no ads, access to beta keys, give aways, etc.), I just won't be one of them.

I would pay a buck a month maybe :pleased:
http://baronsofthegalaxy.com/ An MMO game I created, solo. It's live now and absolutely free to play!
People can already block ads for free...
BUT, if for that subscription you include:
- Personal @mmorpg.com email.
(choosing any username, not necessarily same as forum name)
- Subscribers only contests and giveaways.
(to avoid the 1 day old accounts getting all keys).
- Different username colours and visual effects, possibly other avatar options too.
(think like something awful forums)
- Subscriber only live chat.
(so we could hang around there)
On top of my head, those would be the perks I would gladly pay to.
But 2,90 just for adblock? No.
