Unbalanced classes, Eternal Grind, RNG(lol),and many many crap out of this game.
This is not an MMO it is a cooking-horse taming-gathering-casino simulator.
You forgot enslavement aspect. Cooking-taming-gathering-slaving-casino sim.

Frankly with all the racial controversy as of late here in the US, I'm surprised this game is even legal.
The game explains that the workers are paid by the city's taxes, so they are not unpaid slaves.  Just civil servants.
Rriiiiight. You feed them beer, keep them drunk while they serve you, with no monetary transaction between you and them. I saw Daum's supposed justification claiming "cities pay their wages." Its laughable, but I guess it was enough to convince you.
Civil servants do things for you in real life all the time without you paying them.  They're also paid by the state.

Only difference is you're not nice enough to give your postman a beer when he delivers your mail.

    Jerk.
QUICK! Someone get him/her/it a beer! He/she/it's starting to go postal!!!!!

And you don't quite have your facts straight yet either. The taxes that we pay to the state are what the state uses to pay civil servants, thus, we ARE the ones paying them. Not to mention the fact that we don't give the postman a beer because: A. most of us have jobs and are at work when the postman is around. B. the postman would get fired if caught drinking on the job. and C. the postman COULD be a postwoman, and offering them a drink could lead to other things... like false sexual harassment charges lol!
Trolling, being trolled, getting banned, yelling at mods, getting perma banned, making new accounts, and still trolling this site since 2004 =D

Glad you're enjoying the game Holden

    For me...

There are a lot of things I adore about the game and a lot of things I dislike. One of the things I dislike the most is the style of combat. I can't say it's bad, I can only say it's not my thing. I like to feel more like a human being in a MMORPG and less like a Superhero

Because of that I will always find myself just dabbling with the game.

Yeah like I said earlier about the graphics, if you don't like the combat the game probably isn't going to appeal to you much.

You pretty much have to really like the graphics and combat if you're going to enjoy the game, since you're probably going to be spending most of your time fighting out in the open world.

I didn't go over the combat but I do really like it.  I like all the crazy effects and the fact that it's action combat and not tab target.

What... so slavery in a game is politically incorrect?

Having slaves in a videogame is a big no no, but slaughtering innocents by the thousands because of their race color or creed in a videogame is A-OK.

This exchange is down right silly.

Almost the very definition of trolling imo (what Dullahan is doing that is).

I cannot play action games for the life of me but I play this game without any problems. Of course I cannot PvP against the AI I'm fine probably because they have no AI lol.

I kite with my ranger and circle the mob hitting it and then do the back flip stun thingy and then pepper them again and use my area attack. Oh yeah I love this combat because it seems to make me feel powerful and mighty well until I die to some red mob but I can slaughter them fine and I enjoy the feeling of the visceral combat. I have some of the  effects turned off like camera shake and toned down the animations because I will get dizzy otherwise from the excess but the combat, I am loving for some reason. I cannot understand it I always shun action combat.

The Valkyrie and her shield slams feel weighty and you really feel the jar of the hit. I must say the way the hits connect is done so well. I hate floaty combat where you never impact anything . This game you actually feel like you are walloping the snot out of the mobs.

The Tamer is fine too I am okay with her but not as much as I love the Ranger and  Valkyrie. The witch I cannot move with her well. The Ranger moves in combat so easily I can circle strafe I think that is what it is called where you keep the mob in front while you move around them but I cannot do it with the Witch. I think its because her animations make her stand still and then I get swamped and die. I do use the dodging but for some reason I just cannot play the Witch well enough to enjoy her.

I have to try the new class coming on the 20th but I never actually tried the Maehwa . But since my Witch is my cook for beer  (the song "Beer for Horses" popped in my head for some reason) I cannot delete her plus I need one alt that can drain her energy for cooking and then dump her in the house and not worry about using her for quests.

I went trepidatiously and got the Omar Lava Cave node. My god I kept watching every corner terrified of the 50 + area. I was trying another route before for the Ancient Fissure but it was too scary with full of purple mobs so I tried another route. I collected something like 9 CP but I cannot activate the Zinc node since I ran out just when I got Omar Cave. Furniture tier 4 here I come well it has coal too so steel stuff can be made.

So far no let up on me loving this game yet. I know I will probably get tired of the game but so far no sign of it. Thank heavens I am enjoying playing an MMORPG again. So easy to roleplay too when I am farming or trading I actually make myself roleplay a farmer plagued by an insect swarm or when I trade I imagine I am being chased and how I must make it to the next town.

Reminds me Asheron's Call combat, where you were killing masses of mobs like a super hero. Fun times.

Out of curiosity, Holden, what's your most played class now?
I'm still in love with my little Maewa - totally gave up my warrior to play her :)

My main and only class right now is 55 witch.  I really want to get at least one class up high so I can contribute well in sieges and node wars.  Once I get geared/leveled to the point where I'm competitive, I'll be branching out.

I think I will definitely be doing a melee class for my next one as a change of pace.  They look really fun.

What kind of rubbish trolling is this ? Why don't you stay with your pot head developer and stop lamely trolling other games boards.

You kill even baby animals in games and then you go on to slaughter humanoids that are sentient and have no worries while their blood is still fresh on your face to actually complain about workers working for beer.

I thought the whole drunk workers who are on a perpetual October Fest a real hoot. Oh man lighten up.

Reviews are never objective. There's always a big part of personal opinion in them.

My review differs from Holden's which differs from Kano's. That's normal, and that doesn't mean any of use has been dishonest when writing it.
Holden used the term dishonest. No one else did. I fully believe what Holden presented was true (According to his perspective) Whatever our definition of Objective is, for any review I put any stock in, I will need to see what good things the writer has to say, and what the writer thinks might be issues. A good review tells me why the reader thinks I should buy it and why he thinks I might not want to.
I'll take the blame for this one, I lauded DMKano's post as an "honest" review, ergo by default I'm implying Holden's is not honest, which wasn't fair on my part.

I would have been better off not using modifiers that might be character related so I should have said I felt his review was a more complete effort, which appeared to present both the good and bad parts of the title.

As another noted, DMKano's post may have been promoting a bias and employing good psychological tricks to appear at first to be fair, when it really isn't, but I don't try to look to deeply into people's motivations when posting, I'm not good at that sort of thing so I take it more or less at face value.

Holden likes BDO and feels it's the "greatest MMORPG ever made", yet many would disagree.  I think EVE's the best game ever, and "legions" disagree with me on that point.  (cretins) ;)

All good, we all have our favorites and I think I'd actually enjoy playing BDO for the systems described if not for the action combat, just not something I'll likely ever be into.

Now, If it had a 5 player group planning out an attack, It would be more like an mmo.

The players health bar didn't go down at all, not one bit.......How many mobs could he have taken on to be a challenge ?

There are difficult solo mobs, but generally you want to fight big groups of regular mobs when you're grinding to get xp and/or silver.

Keep in mind this is a lower level video.  At my level the main mobs to grind are Sausans, which include snipers without name tags (so you often don't see them, although they leave a big cloud of smoke behind when they fire), ranged cannon fighters that can knock you down, and tough frontline fighters.

They aren't some kind of incredible challenge, but you can fairly easily die to them if you're not paying attention.

Guild missions often put me in Valencia, which is past my gear and level, and I do often die when I get aggro while doing these with my guild.

But ultimately the main challenge of the game isn't PVE.  The challenge of the game is GVG.

Also I question the idea that the vast majority of PVE is in any way challenging in any MMO.

One of the ways grinding in BDO is more interesting, if maybe not more challenging, then grinding dailies or even sometimes grinding dungeons, is it's not a static thing.  You're running around grouping as many mobs as you safely can.  The different types of mobs respawn at different times, so the fights are constantly different.  With action combat you're constantly moving around and aiming/dodging.  Throw in people fighting you over camps and it's overall a pretty interesting experience.  It's at least not a standard type of grind.

As for the "not an MMO" thing, most people do grind in groups at endgame.

After trying all the classes extensively I think I like the Witch the best. Glass cannon ranged aoe is just too fun to deny. Witch class is my favorite in group PvP by far.

Witch is pretty sweet for sure.  Pretty immobile though which is why I want to get a melee class going next.  I see them zipping around and I get jealous :p.

    My review is 100% opinion.

Neither is more accurate than the other - they are just 2 different opinions that is all - because we play the same game in 2 entirely different ways - you enjoy PvE, I enjoy PvP - and as a PvP game BDO is a failure - this is my opinion.

The need to counterbalance is something that *you* seem to need - as this is something that is based on your opinion of "negative and inaccurate things' - which in reality are = anything that is not prasing BDO.

Not everyone thinks that BDO is the best game ever - and that is ok.
Reviews are obviously opinion based, but some of your negatives are not really negative facts when they happen only for specific audiences.

And let's not kid ourselves there are specific posters here who agree to anyone negatively hating the game and lol people that praise/defend it. Hell one of them just got banned, the others in "jail". Goes to show how said posters are not helping the discussions. They don't stay civil and constructed in the discussion they must provoke and insult.

Your current review was more civil than most of your threads sure, but some of those other threads you started had clear subtle intent to say "See I told you BDO sux!!1!!1" and don't deny it because anyone with a brain could figure that out.

There's no need to attack anyone over their opinions, in the end you should be happy others have games to play.

Not sure why you think I'm a PVE player- I'm playing the game currently with the sole goal of becoming competitive for guild PVP.  I'm not a ganker and I don't kill horses, but there's more to pvp in the game than that...

Also not sure why you think PVP is a failure- node wars was the most fun I've ever had with GVG in an MMORPG during the practices and I'm greatly looking forward to official release.

And no, I don't think anyone that isn't praising BDO are "negative and inaccurate".  However, many inaccurate things have been said about the game, especially recently on here, even by you, and the focus of all new threads were pretty much negative.

So I figured it would be a good time to post something positive.

Yeah I realize not everyone thinks BDO is the best game ever.  Never said everyone had to agree with me and I had no problem with your opinionated review to counter my opinionated review until it was cited as "the honest review".

Is this what this has devolved into - calling my *opinion on the game* invalid due to PSYCHOLOGICAL TRICKS??

    Oh for fucks sake....

No you definitely are an infuriating poster.  I'm not convinced it's intentional though- it could just be your personality and you're actually blissfully unaware of the strife left in the wake of your posts, but I don't think I've ever encountered someone so successful with passive-aggressive posting on a forum.
