The terrible PVP is what did me in. The desync sucks, the class balancing is awful, and it requires no skill at all in my opinion. You want to kill someone? Have better gear, be a better class or be a higher level, that's it. There is no skill involved.

Also, lets cut the crap. While the character creator was cool, the fact that there is no customization beyond that in terms of differences in armor in game was so cheap. If you want something non generic looking, you are forced to pay $20+ for one CHARACTER BOUND outfit.

I could go on about many other things, but those are the two that stick out like a sore thumb. The PVP is what led me to quit the game.

The thing I dislike the most is the absurd amount of inventory management, giving you so many things to collect that you are constantly deciding what to keep, what to put in the bank, what to send to another bank, what to store on alt characters solely for the purpose of storing this sort of stuff, etc. BDO isn't the only MMO to do this, but so far it's the worst for me. If you're going to throw 100 things at me to loot please don't give me only 20 inventory space.

Games shouldn't be called "Free 2 Play" anymore, but "Buy More Inventory Slots 2 Play"

I only have 2 gripes, but one of them I've known about for a long time. First is the "PvP only" servers. Call me a carebear, but I've never been big on PvP in any game, except in Dark Age of Camelot and Battlefield 3/4. All other games that I've played PvP just plain frustrate me, and it always feels like you're losing, even if you're winning. The PvP in BDO isn't that bad though, and I already knew it was this way. I don't play it everyday anymore, but when I did I would only get ganked like 1-2 times a day, which is fine imho.

My biggest gripe is the pop-in problem. There's a reason why I spend thousands of dollars on computer hardware (well 2, one is family lol), and that's so I can have the ultimate gaming experience. Running the game even on my, soon-to-be GTX 1080, Titan X machine, I still get pop-ins everywhere. When I'm fighting or running around on foot, there isn't much problem, but when you're running around on a horse or wagon it becomes a very ugly world full of blacked out shadows.

There was an interview with Pearl Abyss on one of the Korean sites where they talked about the custom rendering engine for BDO - the pop in problem is an engine limitation, no matter how much of a high end PC you have - it won't go away.

So even quad 1080s won't fix it.

Quad GTX 1080s won't fix anything, as with Pascal, Nvidia is only supporting up to 2-way SLI.

What i dislike is the players that posting on forums seeking comfort if their mama money should go into those infamous costumes of this greedy game.

That's an easy one; RNG with repetitive pve grind as a close second. Too much emphasis on gear and too much disparity.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

I think the life skills, the seamless world, the gfx and freedom of non combat things to do are revolutionary in the genre.

I dont like the lackluster PvE (no dungeons among some other reasons) and popins. The itemization and loot are oddly bad. If I were a pvp only person I would have some legit complaints as well.

Overall with the dumpster this genre is going in (no freedom linear quest hubs and no options when logging in), this game is a breath of fresh air.

I didn't like the whole damn thing, but here are some lowlights:
    • The horrendous, mind-numbing, largely-pointless grind after you hit 50.
    • The inclination of both the marketing and fanboys to label it as a sandbox when, more correctly, BDO is a themepark without rides.
    • The overeliance on RNG, to the point where it even affects base stats.
    • The complete lack of endgame goals or objectives.
    • The creepy, annoying Black Spirit, who appeared to be the unholy offspring of Navi and the demons from 1990's Ghost.
    • The patronizing hand-holding of the tutorial ("is this your first time using a keyboard and WSAD? HERE'S HOW YOU MOVE!")
    • The offensive one-use costumes listed at insulting prices.
    • The wholesale incompetence of the design team and almost total lack of meaningful exchange between players and developers.
... Sadly, I could probably go on, but the simple fact of the matter is: it's a bad freaking game.
  • RudedawgCDNRudedawgCDN Member UncommonPosts: 507
Gear disparity that makes it pointless for a new player to do even bother starting the game.

    Think you catch up?

My least favorite thing would be how life skills are worth FAR FAR less money than mindlessly grinding monsters.

I agree with some of your statements but that part ...? I sell a single top quality fireflake seed for 50.000 silver. Carrot seeds top quality go for 35000-47000. Insanely profitable life skill in my opinion.

My biggest gripe is how grindy it quickly becomes if you want to focus on the life skills. Crafting is simplistic, player-interaction pretty much non-existing except in PvP. It is like an RPG put online, people play next to each other but not really with each other.

Played: Pretty much any fantasy MMO, some did not even make it to release ...
Favorites: UO, EQ2, Vanguard, Wurm Online, Salem, ESO, Creativerse
Playing: ESO, Creativerse, Guild Wars 2
Anticipating: (sigh) ... maybe Ashes of Creation

Pretty game, but no real end game.   The pvp is pointless.  The game seems to me like the developers got to a point and said let's ship it as it is.  It just seems largely unfinished.  And it is definitely not a sandbox in any shape of form.

The dull pve - you have all these cool skills and great looking animations but in the end, you're fighting wooden dummies. The NPCS don't do anything, they fight you in slow motion. The things that don't have cc immunity are so dirt easy to kill and the things that actually take you time have CC immunity so you don't often get to capitalize on some class features.

The disparities in pvp - I love pvp, but I hate when gear is such a factor. In BDO, it doesn't matter how skilled you may be, if you aren't top geared or evenly matched in level, you're screwed. I don't need pvp rewards, pvp can be rewarding for me in and of itself, so I just want to be able to pvp. There are too many gates. It takes a while to get to 45 the first time to be able to pvp, then once you finally get there everyone is so far ahead of you with gear you could wail on a stationary player and not hurt them at all.

Cash shop outfits. Insulting prices. I've spent money knowing that Daum doesn't really deserve it, but hoping that it fuels development with Pearl Abyss.

When i first see the game i was super excited.I buy it play around 5 minutes and regret. For a player that like to immerse in the world the pop in was a big let down for me.And also the gender lock.
  • GladDogGladDog Member RarePosts: 1,097
The predatory cash shop.  Otherwise, I would be playing.  There are other things that I don't care for, but they are mostly just annoying.  I can deal with annoying...

The world is going to the dogs, which is just how I planned it!

For me, the absolutely ridiculous and totally casino RNG in everything, pushed to the very extreme, so much so that is getting hilarious (if it wasn't actually frustrating). The total and soul withering dependence on gear and the upgrade of said gear -> casino RNG just mentioned. All this in a supposedly "competitive PvP open world" game, which turns into a farce when it actually translates to epic "no life" grind, and yes, you guessed it, "have fun with casino RNG".

On the other hand, you can just ignore all of it, and do your own thing in the vast beautiful world, doing your life skills, exploring and whatever else, and in that department BDO is awesome and excels. The moment one decides to "progress" in levels and gear and go up there and try the "competition" and "PvP", stuff starts to turn ugly, unless one truly enjoys masochistic perpetual grind and non stop "farming" only to blow up stuff in a few seconds and go back a few steps / days / weeks etc (also don't forget to grind those 1000s of ogres for that coveted ogre ring, then rinse and repeat X times to get more and try for your PRI / DUO etc one.... blow them up, so much fun ROFL).

Sure, we have seen that before, old news. Perhaps this "progression" is appealing to some players, to each their own. In reality, that is no progression, just unrealistic and unreasonable punishment and in any case why exactly we do have this kind of mechanics in our "westernised" B2P version? Otherwise BDO doesn't lack in content or ideas, but the whole thing turns sour if you consider "end game" to be this "PvP" farce solely based on gear obtained through sheer grind / casino RNG luck (even more so with Valencia in plus the "+20 upgrades").

  • DKLondDKLond Member RarePosts: 2,273
It would be much easier talking about what I liked about it.
  • winghaven1winghaven1 Member RarePosts: 737
The endless grind. I'm a fan of grinding in general. To work up to something that isn't handed to you on a silver platter but BDO goes far beyond that. Lvling is one thing but even though you grind for weeks to reach acceptable pvp level you'd have to grind for decent gear to actually be reliable in PvP. And when you actually do get the gear you want, you need to get lucky in RNG a lot for it to be of any use.... And when you actually do get high enoug there will be another expansion featuring new & better gear to grind so you'll never actually be able to use your epic stuff if only for a week or so and then you go on the boring train again. It isn't for me in my opinion.

I hate all the stupid AFK'ing in this game. Because it requires so much damn grind, that you actually NEED to afk. It's got nothing to do with online. Besides that I'd call it "Horse Training Online".
  • Dr_BinksDr_Binks Member UncommonPosts: 271
Yes the pop ins are a pain but I do understand why they have it. They are using a older engine so that peeps with low end PC can still play and enjoy the beauty of the game and it still be playable.... so yeah I dont like it but I kind of get the reason.

For me the BIG deal is the RNG.... its everywhere!!. Every thing you do is RNG and if you have bad luck with it your going to spend 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.99 silver for everything you need to make or plus, it's nuts. Just last night I was trying to take my green +15 blade too blue with the grade 2 stones I made, (take a hour to make 1), and I had 10 which is 10hrs to make just go puff with no results well other then the fact I had to repair it again, and this happens over and over again,,,, it's nuts. I love the game but it's getting to the point where the RNG nature of this game just may make me move on because I find myself having to spend so much time just too farm that I dont really have the time in game to explore or just play the game...... it's like a job... Log on go too your farming spot with your wagon and spend the next hours filling the wagon and then go to this NPC and this other NPC and oh yeah back to western camp to turn in stuff for silver and then log off..... Its getting to the point where it's not much fun any more.
  • RealizerRealizer Member RarePosts: 724
The upgrade system after +15 is a bit of an overload, and the servers are honestly junk. The rest of the game is great for the price. When the game launched it was fine till the first few updates, now the desync is so bad, I'm taking a break. If they ever fix it, I'll go back to playing daily, but currently it's become a chore to get things done.

At least it's not asking you to list all the things you hate about the game.  Only the things you hate most.

Because obviously everyone hates at least some things about the game....

Yeah man, I don't know.  Getting pretty hard to come here.  Site is full of people that can't play the game game on their computer so they hate on it, and the last few articles have been really negative.

What's happened the past few weeks?  They released node wars and seiges, they fixed hacking, and they released Valencia.

You come here and you'd think they stole your children.
