The Final Fantasy XIV site has been updated with a deep dive into the Palace of the Dead, part of the Deep Dungeon content coming in Patch 3.35. The Palace of the Dead features a fascinating mechanic that sees all players starting at level one and moving up in levels while there.

    I might have to re-sub for this. Sounds fun and interesting.

    I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

    Ignoring the fact I am a avid fan of this game (not a perfect MMO granted thats impossible, but I feel the best one on the market over-all with what it does) the whole mechanic of Deep Dungeon can be a great feature to have.

    Having that accelerated pace and a random dungeon can really give a sense of progression and working through the challenges that it would be nice to see more games toy around with. It gives a sense of progression while battling through a dungeon that advances and evolves. Leveling in most games can be tedious, but having it set up to be faster paced takes out the tedium and with random challenges and difficulties tied in it can make it a fun experience to go through multiple times.

    Sounds good but I use to see people around the world leveling doing leves, fate, quests and this will kill that, the world will feel empty. I don't mind new and improved features as long as not everyone does just that and turns everything else obsolete.

    So, how does this affect your character once you leave the dungeon? Do you progress your original class as you go along too? Is any of the gear usable outside of the dungeon? If you try a new class, will you keep the class progress you made once you leave? The article mentions none of the things that tie the dungeon into the over-all character advancement. This leads me to believe it is just a side diversion and has no affect on regular progression, both character and gear.

    In FFXIV when you leveled one job you basically exhausted all quests (experience source) for other jobs on that same character so would have to resort to grinding those public events.

    Has that changed in any way now or still the same?

    From the various articles I have read and the recent Live Letter, your outside job will gain exp while in the Deep Dungeon, at around the same rate as if you were doing a regular dungeon. The only items I know of so far that can be taken out are the weapons. When you beat all of the floors you can take the weapon out to use in the outside world and will be comparable to a raid level item.

    I am sure there will be minions and mounts you can earn as well. And of course, future updates or unknown details may lead into other items/perks that trickle into the normal game to use outside.

    You can also do Leve Quests (repeatable quests,) and dungeon exp has been greatly boosted. There is a leveling roulette, FATE's and beast tribe quests as well.

    Best way to level, if you are a dps, is to do FATE's or Leve's while waiting for the dungeon queue to pop. If you are a healer or tank, then dungeons level you the fastest over anything else.

    Crazy instances with crazier rules was the mainstay of FF11 endgame.
    This is a good thing for FF14 if it continues.

    Yeah, hopefully there is some limiting factor on this so that doesn't become THE way to level. I'm guessing (hoping) the difficultly will ramp up as you get further in, and that while it will give you XP normal dungeons, FATEs, etc. will still be better XP / time wise.

    That said, I'm really looking forward to it and plan on spending a lot of time in there both solo and with a friend.

    Also, loving the retro inspired UI art :)

    Also playing swtor event atm. Cant just skip stories but also wanna do some end game lol

    It's really going to be a glorified alt leveling treadmill. Maybe even a glamour factory if we're lucky. I don't see getting anything worthwhile out of here. EDIT: Still looks fun as hell though.

    Its good and bad good that its something different and allows you to use tactict bad its just another way to tempt players to get them to max every class as a rule which = to more money for them would be cooler if they had a style of getting special skills temporally only for that dungeon on the class you entered the dungeon as.
