Will Camelot Unchained ever effing release?

It seems like an age ago that this game was being super-hyped and all the PvPers were swinging from its nuts.  Now, it seems mostly forgotten.  Is it my imagination, or is what promises to be a relatively simple, primarily PvP game taking forever to develop?  Is this just another crowdfunded game stuck in perpetual development?  Or is there hope on the near horizon?

Actually the alpha testers play it regularly, and beta is supposedly "soon" but my guess is late 2017/early 2018 for first launch.

Play what?  What is there to play?  Last time I logged in, it was a bunch of bots running around in a field with extremely bare bones combat.

It has been delayed multiple times already. I think the beta was originally supposed to be early 2016 but it now looking like late 2016 maybe. It isn't a complete shit show like scammed citizen, but they seem to be heading that way. I'm betting Crowfall will actually release before CU at this rate. I'm not sure if either game will be worth it, but I guess I can always hope.

Is it a Yakov Smirnoff opening for the Spin Doctors at the Iowa State Fair shit-show?

Sorry, but you should educate yourself about the length of MMO development cycles. So far, CU is in full production for roughly 2.5 years. If they manage to hit beta "this summer", it will actually be the example of rather quick development, not to mention making their own engine which can add year(s) to standard cycle.

Speaking of launch, mid-to-late 2017 would be my guess.

CU beta is not going to be a beta that people normally think of nowadays.

There are several steps of 'Beta' from closed to open, more often than not its the 'open' Beta that players are thinking of, when they think of Beta's.
Personally i am very interested so far in CU, i'd rather they get it right than try and rush it out of the door, i am fairly confident there will be a good game produced, but i'll wait until its finished. I've read too many stories about players who have got heavily involved in closed and open Beta's to the point where, when the game released, they were burned out on it and subsequently didn't enjoy the game as much as they would have done if they had played it for the first time in its released state. O.o

I always knew this kind of reaction would happen, lol

We know from past experience that fully staffed and funded AAA MMO's took anywhere from 3 to 5 years to develop on average.

So a MMO project that is being developed by an indie team with 1/3 of the staff and haphazard funding will quite likely take 6 to 10 years to fully complete !

Hence the general perception that KS-funded MMO's are in "perpetual beta"...

What about this games information released and/or development gave you the idea that City State promised CU would be "relatively simple"? And do you really have nothing else going on in your life that you can't do anything more productive with your time?

The video game will be released when its ready to be released. Go live in reality for a bit until that time.

What you call a simple PvP game,to me,it seems to be a lot more ambitious and technologically advanced than the vast majority of AAA games out there.
It's the only game that I know of,that's  actually being built upon a engine that can handle proper massive amounts of players, and not the overstretched multiplayer  engines of current MMOs that melt as soon as there's a few hundred players on our screens.
It is also implementing full server side checks for physics and cooldowns etc etc.
It might not have the thousands of generic, unimaginative, and boring quests that you find in other games, and that's great, because these are such a waste of money and development time.
Also,it's a small team working on a budget,we all know that.
And they shouldn't rush the game out.I'm tired of unfinished games launching with myriads of bugs and problems.
I really hope they will succeed with their goals,I expect nothing from the big names of the industry, they are out making clones of the same game for 10 years now, using off the shelf,3rd party technologies, applying terrible monetization models that have turned most MMOs into online casinos.
The only advancement of the genre can come from small dedicated developers like CSE.

There's always impatience when you're awaiting the resurrection of a savior.

Perhaps they shouldn't pitch products that way.

I know the feeling! But I don't think it is even a "relatively" simple project. Among other things, they are building their own engine from the ground up and plan to have quite complex building/construction as well as tuning the game to handle battles with hundreds of players; all with a pretty small team and budget.

I assume they can save time by not having to build quest lines and lots of art animations for monsters/mobs and the AI for that, but last I heard/read they planned to also have some pve elements so maybe they will have to take that on as well.

Anyway, I too hope it comes out soonish!

Most peoples will not agree with me, but this is my opinion, this reason why I do not buy into kickstarter or early access game, unless it let you access to the game right away with extreme low price that I do not feel reget even they game fail or how long it take to release ( like most steam early access ex. gloira victis ), there much time for me in life to think about, rather keep waiting for dev to release a game, I dont want having that bond into it, i buy when the game release, tell me when it release and i look into it, if im still interest, then I spend my hard earn cash for it.

A little bit of research, maybe the same amount of time it took you to type this idiotic post on this forum, would have told you things are moving along really well for such a small company as CSE, who just opened another office in Seattle so they could hire more programmers.  Open Beta will start this summer, so if you look at your calendar, that is pretty effing quick.  :)

You wanna be careful with that company. I asked for a refund 2 months ago. Still waiting, with endless promises... Basically Ive a feeling Ive done my dosh. Even after putting in a claim with paypal, the company is ignoring them as well. S be aware what your getting into.

Beta 1 will start this summer. After Beta 3 there will be open beta. Dont except this game to be out before late 2017. They have small team, they had problems with finding programmers (but now it should be easier because of 2nd studio in Seattle), they are building own engine to handle 600+ players fighting in small area, etc...

I think the first ones that should educate themselves about the length of MMO development cycles are MMO developers. All the expectations of quick releases come from developers that show their product earlier and earlier and speak of dates long before they have any idea how long its going to take.

The positive thing I can say of MJ is that he owned the issue, he came out early and said that his original release estimates had gone out the window and gave some needed realism on how long it would take.

I agree with your launch guess, hope we get beta this year.

This was shown early to acquire funding through kickstarter. This is one game that has the potential to actually make kickstarter something of value. It could actually become a success story in a list of stories that haven't panned out so well all stemming from kickstarter.

Well, frankly, I doubt MJ really believed that they will launch in 2015(!) or early 2016 (if I recall correctly his KS estimates)...that is, unless planets align - it was possible theoretically, which gave him formal/moral right to be that optimistic in public.

Such optimism is good for hype and the sales. What would be the "realistic" counterpunkt of that? Say, imagine people in early 2013 giving money blindfold, based on some concept art and very rough engine demo...for something that might possibly launch 2017 or, god forbid, 2018.

That would certainly make many of them think twice, not to mention that one could reverse-engineer "promised" 4-5 years into 6-8 of real time, well known ratio of expectations vs reality in MMOs - including AAAs. Such Kickstarter could easily fail, in some parallel universe.

To clarify couple things - I am not criticizing, and I would do exactly the same: being optimistic and enthusiastic (sometimes, even overly) about stuff you are selling shows passion and helps sales, the way I see it - pluses of that are, in this case, easily overweighting drawbacks of later refunds and broken deadlines.

I believe that something similar happened to WAR, if you remember it was made in 3 years (better to say, it's early beta which EA then pushed) and hilarious thing is that it was actually supposed to launch in 2007 - now, that would be a world record in AAA MMO making, and with quite some distance.

Kickstarter ended 3 years and 3 months ago.

Could you please enlighten us, what did the game do for 9 months after Kickstarter ended before going into full production?
