I am really curious why you aren't interested in Darkfall, you often post about how you love free for all owpvp games and DF seems to be one of the leading examples in the genre.
Personally, I am interested in DF, but I think the multiple iterations coming out is kind of crazy. There barely seems to be enough support to maintain DFUW, and despite reading many posts about it I still can't understand exactly why some DF players hate on it so much.
Rise of Agon is simply MUCH harder... at least three times as many spells to use (I had every key on my keyboard do something in that game), the world is a bit bigger, and races matter in the game because they have different hitboxes and abilities and start in their own racial capitals.
Unholy Wars merged all races into the same starting areas and they all have the same hitbox size. That was the biggest disappointment we all felt when coming from the original.
Unholy Wars fixed many of the issues that the first game had though, like their prowess system for leveling and UI making it so that we no longer had to use macros. There is virtually no grind compared to the first game too besides gear. Its very nooby friendly and even has safe zones in the starting areas (which I found disappointing..)
I think that most people who tried out Darkfall would like Unholy Wars most because its much easier and they actually have a chance when it comes to fighting.
Just look at the difference here:
Each game will have something different to play for...
Unholy Wars.. the friendliest version that new players are more likely to stick to. Everything about the game is gruop oriented.
Rise of Agon.. the God of everything mode with the steepest learning curve and fastest combat.
New Dawn... focusing more on racial wars and the economy making it more friendly for solo and noob PVP that some of us preferred.

Kyleran: "Now there's the real trick, learning to accept and enjoy a game for what it offers rather than pass on what might be a great playing experience because it lacks a few features you prefer."
John Henry Newman: "A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault."
FreddyNoNose: "A good game needs no defense; a bad game has no defense." "Easily digested content is just as easily forgotten."
LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you playing an MMORPG?"
I'm not looking forward to figuring out a way to bind 100 abilities to the keyboard and actually use them in a fast paced game. Actually, unless New Dawn does an amazing job fixing the original game and adding a bunch of stuff, I may not try any of the remade DF1 games.
And it is looking like AV may pull the plug on UW pretty soon, so I may never be going back to Darkfall. If they could at least get that game to a freemium model I would log in from time to time. Definitely some of the most intense gaming moments I've ever had...playing UW though. Not sure any game out there can recreate the risk vs reward.
There wasn't enough of a player base for one DF game, there sure as shit ain't enough players to spread around three of these games.
I seriously doubt that AV will pull the plug on it soon. In the original game it became just as dead before each major patch. Unholy Wars is the most playable version right now for most people. It has dyes, levies, PVE bosses, better UI, easier combat, noob friendly, etc. lots of stuff to offer that the original game didn't have.

In terms of pvp Unholy Wars seems the better game from your description of the differences. Especially things like normalized hitboxes and lower pve grind to be competitive.
I played UW a bit when it came out, but I seemed to spend most of my time gathering mats. Also I couldn't get used to the UI (when I played I couldn't assign hotkeys to trigger each spell/ability, I forget exactly how it worked now but just remember that it was really frustrating). In a similar vein, I couldn't practise fighting because a lot of abilities didn't work against npcs and there was no area to non-lethally practise against other players. Also everything felt a bit too "floaty" for me.
The ideas behind the game are great and the atmosphere was superb, but in the end I found watching other people play it more enjoyable than playing the game itself. If New Dawn can tighten up some of the areas I was finding tedious it might be well worth a try though. Its just -three versions of the same game (; seems a recipe for disaster.
Basically anything you needed to use a macro for in DF and UW they will provide a way to do it thru the new UI in New Dawn.
They have improved the UI a lot since it came out, and now you can make it so that when you use a skill, you automatically pull out the weapon for it as well, and other changes..
Now all of the player cities have been built, and although they can be leveled at times, people tend to rebuild them pretty fast. It changes the game when you have a place to duel people and super harvesting city nodes that give you several things each tap.
It sounds like you never made it out of the starting areas or even experienced what the game has to offer.
If you ever decide to resub send me a message and I will hook you up. Also, in my alliance we always have people online.

I played RoA for two weeks and I couldn't get back into it. Game play, content and GUI issues aside, RoA only has an NA server which results in high ping and timezone issues for EU/Russian players. It's just too much of a deal breaker to me.
Same applies to the New Dawn version, but add local banking on top of that, which is aids in pixel format (Would you like to play the game today? TOO BAD GO HAUL YOUR BANK AROUND FOR TWO HOURS FIRST).
While playing RoA I was missing DFUW's responsiveness, content, and QoL changes in general. Frankly, I also prefer DFUW's combat system. The problem with DFUW is... It has Aventurine running it, and the only direction they are going with it, is into the ground. Even this weekend the game server was down (and still is) for 4 days and we've had no update on it since it started.
I honestly hoped someone would take over DFUW's development and reboot/relaunch the game under a F2P model, along with the needed changes to the new player experience. But I seem to remain ever the idiot for hoping that, since no one with the funding to do that, wants to do that (those with funding bought DF1 licences instead).
Oh well, when DFUW ultimately shuts down, my Darkfall days will go down with it. I know more people think the same, especially EU players... It won't be much of a gain for the DF1 reboot projects.
