Yep saw this on EQ2Wire. Loved playing EQ2, went back and played on the TLE server for a few months. But neither of these prestige options tempt me in the slightest.

Yeah, this whole thing is weird, I mean really who asked for these kind of servers???

The one TLE server Stormhold is light population every night now so that right there can pretty much tell you the interest of the community. It seems to me that ever since Daybreak got a hold of these games its been nothing but one cash grab after another with all these throwback servers between this and EQ

LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you playing an MMORPG?"

As soon as they cancelled EQN I uninstalled all of their games. The only thing they could do to win back my $ is restart a Vanguard server.

Agree... Vanguard is wayyy better than EQ2.. if only they provided more end game content maybe it would have done better.

Stormhold is TLE. We don't know what Prestige servers would be because the only info they gave was in that lame poll. Notice there isn't a "neither" option.

They're really pushing their monetizing more aggressively than they ever have before.

They started with TLE subscription only servers.

Then GU100 which is subscription only.

Then there is the "heartbound" that came with GU100 which offers a 30 Ferver buff if you "hearbound" to another player and are a subscriber. For those that aren't familiar with it, it's a straight up 30% outgoing damage buff after all other calculations are made. That's freaking huge and pretty much as pay to win as a PVE game can get.

Finally, they want to make new servers no one asked for, subscription only, that they hope will drive monetization at the expense of fracturing the community further.

I suppose the frustrating, and telling, part is that they rarely respond to posts anymore. Now it's just fluffy joke posts and the occasional ttobey response to a balance issue from a recent change.
TLE being sub only is the way it should be.  What they are pushing isnt monetization.  Its closer to the opposite since it is actually free for a large portion of their players.  The issue with the heartbound buff isnt that its member only, its that its stupid and shouldnt exist.  But the only players it really matters for are endgame players and almost all endgame players sub.  Just a strange decision.

What - I think - Torval was getting at was not monetization in the "cash shop" sense but in the sense that DBG is trying to "milk" as much money as possible out of the game(s). And that anything and everything is fair game with no regard at all to long term viability. (If not I stand corrected!)

Two graphs to paint a picture:
    http://steamcharts.com/app/295110#1y
    http://steamcharts.com/app/433850#3m

The original H1Z1 Just Survive had been running at a pretty stable 28-32kish level for months. King of the Hill was launched.

Today - just over 2 months after KoH was released Just Survive is down to 3-4k, KoH has dropped to 9-10k. The combined population of the two games is less than half what JS had prior to KoH; neither of the populations are stable, both are still falling.

Posters on these forums saw KoH for what it was and predicted the likely outcome - which (sadly) has come to pass.
