The Bad Side of the Graphics

ScotScot Member LegendaryPosts: 22,981

Just saw some videos of what looked like PvP. Is Black Desert another MMOs which has so many special effects from character animations that it look like a light show? You do have to be able to see your opponents in PvP for the fight to be meaningful, or is this another triumph of pretty graphics over PvP?

Would like to hear from anyone who has done PvP, could you actually see your opponents? :)

I know you can switch your opponents effects off, but not your own if I've understood correctly. Shame.

BDO has multiple special effects settings that can be turned down and for the more flashy classes (maybe all?) they actually ask you to set it before you even enter the game the first time.

These are beyond the typical crappy-medium-ultra-omg is this real life settings.

I have most of mine at about 25% as the flashiness is one thing I do not enjoy in eastern games.

As far as PVP, haven't done any myself, but from all the videos I've seen, enemies are highlighted red or whatever color to make them stand out even if you have the setting maxed out and are going blind.

I think you can turn yours down.

I seem to remember turning everything down.

Your not accomplishing anything in most Asian games because they don't use enough animation frames, their animations almost always look awful ,like a speed light show even if they were using very low end graphics.
You need a lot of ani frames just to show one simple move, but they like to toss in silly nonsense like jumping in the air and doing back flips and mutiple spinning attacks, you need a LOT of frames to pull that off.

If the whole idea is to ENJOY combat, then you need to SEE what you are enjoying "obviously" then to see something that looks awful either because of frame rates or lack of .ani frames or ugly animations or ugly effects,it all matters to the viewing experience.

IMO if a game cannot pull off good visuals and a large view area,it is not worth doing it.That's is why i cannot stand huge battles of any kind, the industry is not ready to handle it.

I was told not to worry, you can turn of a good portion of the nuclear detonations and can stop the earth from shaking when you fire your bow.  But I cant confirm if this is true or not.

He has some if the spell effects lowered but not all the way.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

What's with the pulsing epileptic seize movement of the camera before he even starts fight?  The camera is popping forward and backward, why, to make things seem more exciting than they really are?  I don't get it.

I suppose. In any case you can turn that off. I know I did.

This is what I did in the other MMOs I played like this, long as you can turn it down not an issue. One guy said you could not turn your own effects off, I can't see that being a problem, its when twenty+ people all start doing fireworks it gets silly.

The funny thing is, people used to turn down the effects to help with framerate. Now turning it down so you can see opponents. :)
