Skill Trading in New Eden

http://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/skill-trading-in-new-eden/

"...we will be adding Skill Trading to New Eden and it is currently scheduled for our February release."

"...The injector items will give a different amount of skillpoints depending on what your character’s skillpoint total is when you use the item, according to the following scale:

  • < 5 million total skillpoints = 500,000 skillpoints per injector
  • 5 million – 50 million total skillpoints = 400,000 skillpoints per injector
  • 50 million – 80 million total skillpoints = 300,000 skillpoints per injector
  • > 80 million skillpoints = 150k skillpoints per injector  "

Alt toon labour slave farming paid by PLEX commencing in 3...2...1.....

Its nothing short of a revolution in EVE. New characters that spend enough in game cash can catch up to 10 years old characters
with 200+ million skill points. Old characters can get better in theory, but its a game of diminishing returns all the way to the top.

Have fun

Revolution is a bit of an overstatement, I think.

You could buy 200+ million sp characters already if you wanted, legally. The shortcut has always been there for the ones with a fat wallet.

In principle you are correct. But who had a few hundred billion ISK for a high end char ? I expect the skill injector to have a much lower price than the average toon you could buy on the CCP secure character market.

The barrier here is MUCH MUCH lower. Every two bit toon farmer can run PLEX paid alt accounts now with "slave toons" to milk skill points for everyone willing to pay.

And the BIG difference ... a toon you bought often had skills you did not need. With this new system you can customize your char EXACTLY as you want. No point wasted, in contrast to "naturally grown" characters that usually had to redefine themselves a couple of times in over a decade of EVE history.

I'm tempted to say that the EVE saga is finally coming to a close. It's been an amazing ride, but nothing lasts forever.

Changing the way skillpoints are earned has always been an eventual inevitability. It has been delayed for as long as possible, but now the spirit of EVE will be fundamentally changed. The old system culled the impatient and short-term players from the game. Next there'll probably be "battle arenas"...

What is this "per injector" the OP shows nothing about what and when how or much an injector is, it just shows the amount of sp's per said item.

p.s I am not going to the eve site I don't need tempting back to the game right now :D

I am guessing its £14.99 or some shit for one injector.

Eve's population is much lower now then it was in 2008. It's been in steady decline and their solution has been to start milking their remaining playerbase by selling expensive ship skins and 500$ pants that you can only see in the single player captains quarters.

Now they are selling skillpoints when there are hundreds of posts from their remaining players in the official feedback post begging them not to. They received an overwhelming negative response to this proposal. They don't care about their players anymore.

They are working on side projects now and investing in VR games instead of working on eve. They have abandoned project legion their port of their ps3 shooter that never tied into the eve universe in any meaningful way like they promised. All marketing to keep their players going for the carrot on a stick.

They are in full damage control and locking/deleting any posts made about this. They don't want your feedback.

Show some understanding ... since they axed world of darkness, they need moneyz$$ to complete the VR wonder - Valkyrie. Which uses the free Unreal Engine 4. Idk :c

Pity, EVE would thrive as a F2P. It will have never ending supply of F2P players to scam. Last time I was in Jita a year ago, the phishing scam was real in the system chat :D With people gunning down transport ships outside of Jita. Fun times

I'm sure it will be as much of a wonder as Dust 514 was on ps3, released just before ps4 came out and was never ported.

I'm sure there are tens of people with their 1000$ CDN Oculus Rifts and 2000$ computers that will be playing Valkrie. Tens of people. Smart company ditching eve for gamble like that....again.

from CCP (the link given above):

"....I’m sure you want to know about pricing for Extractors but we are going to announce that a little closer to release time...."

And it will be in ISK, not real world cash  (although of course there is a link between them based on the PLEX cost).

Will be fun to see when the first newly created  toons have more skills points than my 2004 character ;-)
And what that has cost them.....

    Have fun

    EVE = F2P.

If you are smart enough to buy PLEX ingame that is.

That could be another reason they want to find ways for people to spend more isk.. I would not be surprised if many of the player base to date is able to play for free, due to all the isk earned over the years. This is no good for a company that needs to make real money.

a single plex costs about 1.2 billion isk, so you have to work pretty hard to get that much, and even then, its a suppliers market, the reason why they cost so much more these days is because the demand is far higher than the supply, after all, a single plex costs roughly 1.5x  a regular monthly subscription, which tbh, would probably make you think that plex users were a more lucraftive, for CCP at least, source of income, than people with a regular subscription, except of course, that its the people with a regular subscription who are buying all the plex's that are for sale on the market, and since all plex's have to be paid for with real cash, it makes them very lucrative indeed.
The injectors i believe, have to be charged up by a player using their own skill points, before they can be sold to another player, so there is no 'free lunch' in terms of the skill points themselves, my guess however, is that the price for those 'skill points' will be astronomical, and possibly make Plex's look cheap.
The punchline of course is that Skillpoints don't make you stronger in Eve, so we might have a brief spate of easily killed battleship and carrier pilots etc, or dreadnoughts come to think of it, lets face it, dreadnoughts are little more than sitting ducks that can't shoot back as they can only hit large stationary targets.
Could be a fair bit of fun in the offing, for those so inclined of course :p

Where do these injectors come from? Random loot? Crafting? Cash shop?

Anyhow, what EVE would need is a complete reboot, to make it into an actual game instead of a spreadsheet simulator.

Wow.  Time based XP gain is the backbone of EVE's game design.  Abanoning this basic principle seems risky.

As a long time and still current EVE player, I don't see a problem with this.

"We're" always telling people SPs dont really matter in the long run, I have over 110M SPs on a couple of characters, they can fly or do a crap ton of ships and activities, and even if someone buys 200M SPs they really can't do anything better than what I have trained, only more.

Contrary to what is being said here, many EVE players pay for subs (I pay for 6 annual subs) and many more buy PLEX for cash in order to train alts of all sorts.

I do look at this as an opportunity to reallocate some ill trained skills from my higher level characters and put them on my lower SP alts.

I don't see it as the end of EVE.

Those are actually pretty hefty diminishing returns. I'm all for anything that can give low skill point toons and newbros a boost and that's coming from a guy with 133mil+ skill points.bitter vets can go take their tears and bullshit to their mommy for all I care.

All the crying if from....."omg omg not fair I trained forever to get my skill points....blah blah this won't benifit me because in have too many skill points... Blah blah....sence of entitlement me me me..... Blah blah...."

  • DeathengerDeathenger Member UncommonPosts: 880
Oh also you conveniently left out this little tidbit Mr. OP

"It’s very important to note here that this means all the skillpoints available to buy on the market in EVE will have originated on other characters where they were trained at the normal rate."

So basically the skill points are coming from someone's toon. So now instead of buying characters from the character bizarre you can sell off skill point.

I somewhat misunderstood the concept at first, so I'll revise my original gloomy prediction:
"This is not the end of EVE, it is however the Beginning of the End" :D

Skillpoints are still earned on the same time-based mechanism as before. Except now a new player can double their effective skillpoint earning rate by subbing to 2 accounts. Or triple it with 3, etc.
Because skillpoints can now be transferred from character to character.

Alternatively, additional accounts can be used to simply farm skillpoints for resale, although the economics of that won't be clear for some time.

Seems like i am a bit more optimistic than you about the average intelligence and reading comprehension of MMORPG.com posters .... with a few exceptions, of course.

And w.r.t. to your reference to Star Citizen ... I play EVE since 2004.09.07  21:35:00 ..... Thats about 8 years before someone even HEARD of Star Citizen.

I find it pretty telling that CCP didn't put out a press release for mmorpg.com or any other site for this.

They always do for any announcement, even small little things and this is a major change to the game.

I also notice that there aren't the usual Eve defenders on here. Usually if you say anything negative about Eve there are fanboys here that will defend it like they are being payed to. Not this time.
