So , what are GOOD games that mis-classified as MMO ?

"good" is subjective. But since World of Tank is so successful, many people must think that it is good. So that is an example.

I can tell you my list of good games that are "mis-classified" (by some definition people love here) but you know that my list of "good" games and yours are probably different, right?

I play WOT because I enjoy the game.

Do I think it is an MMO. Not even remotely close.

Will the fact there are morons calling it an MMO stop me playing it? No.

Does it annoy the fuck out of me that it is called an MMO? Yes.

Why? Because it is NOT an MMO.

    Lol.

The OP certainly has a flare for being intrigued by the obvious. Of course most people (with the exception of someone with more specific and sophisticated tastes such as Kyleran) are going to manage to play a good game that is classified incorrectly. A good game is a good game. This does little to prove though that people don't give a shit about classification.

In the US, grocery stores have decided to call sweet potatoes yams. Yams are not the same thing as sweet potatoes but people still buy them. Why does the US incorrectly label them?

"The reason for this discrepancy is simple marketing: back in the mid-20th century, when orange-fleshed sweet potatoes were introduced into the United States, they were labeled “yams” to avoid confusion with the common white-fleshed sweet potato Americans were already enjoying." Link

Are sweet potatoes now yams? No but that doesn't mean millions of Americans are ignorant to the fact that they identify yams with the wrong name. Even those that are aware still enjoy them but do so with a chuckle.

Interesting to note the similarities we are currently observing with the term MMO.

To paraphrase Tommy Lee Jones: "A person is smart. People are dumb..."

That's why we're seeing all of this nonsense. "People" make all this marketing wayyyyy too easy. And now we have a bunch of lost souls completely oblivious to their ignorance.

I have not read all the posts, Its just stupid to slap MMO on any game that has multiplayer support... I think Slapping MMO on all these silly Multiplayer games is doing a disservice to the MMO genre.

are you calling the operators of this site "silly"?
If they make silly associations? Yeah.
and you love to come to silly sites? Do you also read "silly" reviews too?
At the expense of trolls to get a good laugh?

That aside, you make it sound as though this were the only topic open for discussion on these boards.

nah .. but this site does use "silly" (your words, not mine) classification.

Plus, this is NOT the only thread o this issue ... the other one is not even started by me!

So i suppose you don't mind coming to a site that you think is silly ... because? Because you can't find a MMO site that is not silly?

oooo .. are you saying you like pulling faces? And i thought you want people to use the 'correct' definition. I suppose you are just trying to make fun of them.

Of course not ... I am asking not answering.

But plenty did answer. In fact, 43 have voted, and 90% voted "Yes" .. meaning that they will play a good game and not care about its labeling.

4 on the other hand, care more about the labeling than whether a game is good. I wonder which group do you fall into?

latest count: 29 YES 3 NO

I am surprised there are only 3 NOs. From the posts here, i thought there are more who cares about labeling than whether a game is good (to them).

You keep trolling this website repeatedly with the same nonsense over and over.

Give it a rest and make a new year resolution to stop asking the same question hoping for a different answer.

People do care about labelling but your question was so loaded I am sure most see through it for the bullshit it is.
Actually there was more no's but the poll was reset when the thread was combined.  But a few of the no's admitted they weren't even answering the question but somehow created a new question and answered that instead.  So vocal is that minority it surprises me.  And so vocal are those who seem to have a personal problem with an internet user.  We should act like grown ups and try to at least be reasonable sometimes.
Are you onto something or just on something?

I think it is a case of "shooting the messenger". Some are probably very upset that the "genre" seems to be slipping away from them, and they feel powerless about it.

Well if you drive a car and everyone starts calling cars busses I doubt the car drivers are worried there are no more cars on the road. More like, there are still cars but also lot more idiot drivers.

well .. you  have to ask the sys op of this, and other websites about that.

But for THIS thread, the question is not whether people will call cars buses (clearly many websites already do), it is whether that will make some so angry that they won't even ride nice cars anymore.

So how about you? Do you play a good (to your subjectively) game despite what it is called?

    Already answered in this thread.

But to recap. The entire purpose of a label to is categorise a product is to simplify and speed up the process of finding the product you want.

The accuracy of a label has nothing to do with the quality of the product.

Conflating the quality of the product with the accuracy of the label used to describe the product is dishonest and I have already pointed that out to you.

Seeing as you only ask questions, do not answer questions, don't care what is said but enjoy the reactions people have to your questions and are, again, obviously trolling this website, I will leave it up to the forum moderators to deal with you from now on.

Clearly not the purpose for websites. Plus, if it is the case, then any game list will work. You don't need literal interpretation of labels at all.

I never said that just because I care what label is used that I also don't care or care less whether it's good or not. Now you're making assumptions. (when this poll started it was public and I voted no)

Certain things in life are not "Either" or "Or"... they're "Both" ("And"). To me this is one of them. I care about the accuracy of the label and the quality of the game.

I try not to make assumptions where your opinions are concerned, so may I would ask you to show me the same courtesy in future threads please? Thank you.

I certainly didn't need a poll nor a discussion about labels to know there would be arguing about such trivial subject matter.
The poll is somewhat in error because even if one chooses to play a 'good' game, the discussion on whether it belongs to category 'X' or 'Y' can still happen. One may 'love' game X and still rabidly argue that it does not belong in category Y.
This is nothing new, this has existed way before computers were even invented so there's really nothing to show here other than the psychological need to 'belong' and pick sides. And sometimes, actually fight over it.

No, lol; it's your never ending negative behavior and vampire like need to incessantly suck attention from a bunch of randoms on an internet forum. It got old years ago.

P.S. you are not a messenger. You're an instigator.

You may not. But given so many responses here, i would say this make the forum much more lively.

If it is so trivial, why would so many people express so many strong views?
