I got the original Destiny and was wondering is there any benefit on getting The Taken King before you've played through the original content?

    I'm also curious about this.
I haven't played through the original game yet. Perhaps it would be best to wait with the expansion until I play through most of it?

If you have the original game then I would suggest playing through the original content because you might not like it.

As you have probably read The Taken King is being reviewed as something that makes a great but, in some peoples' opinion flawed game, a great game. It is subjective though. Millions enjoyed the game at release; some people still won't touch it because its not for them.

I am not sure how many of the changes that have been made in the last year are retrospective - Peter Dinklage's delivery was widely panned for example and has been redone, if you play the original do you still get Peter Dinklage or the redone version - I don't know. Some changes are - various group features etc. - may be worth checking the patch notes; I am not sure how much. I would suggest - however - that either way this sort of stuff won't be the thing that makes or breaks Destiny for you. You will like it "enough" to want to get the expansion(s) or not.

May be worth pointing out that the new all inclusive version does have an optional level boost to 25. Not sure why one would use it but it does show that there is more to Destiny than the initial story arc stuff. And that you don't have to do it if you opt not to. (Recent PC Gamer article on that that someone on the forums flagged.)
