This game also has the worst balance on gear damage reduction.

    (Def/Mdef)
    Cloth has 20/100 stats
    Leather has 60/60 stats
    Plate 100/0 stats

    Which is the best? Cloth.

Stack a bunch of defence gems in them, pop some potions and some buffs/passives and you can reach 60-70% damage reduction easily on physical defence ontop of your already high magic defence.
Obsidian gear  changed this somewhat, Obsidian plate shield has Mdef on it.

Most players have 2-3 sets,  i use cloth and leather for PvP and obsidian plate for pve.
My plate set was obsidian so I know what you are talking about but while it may look like a "buff", the other sets also got set bonuses.

One of the biggest offenders for me personally was the obsidian leather chest vs Plate chest. The effect of the leather chest makes it give almost the same amount of defence as the obsidian plate chest plus around 600 (Forgot exact number) magic defence.

The % reduction goes up too quickly imo. Specially when you include shields and buffs/potions. (Obsidian Shield gives way too much defence)

I know tooting an old horn but did we not say years ago that cash shop gaming ahem f2p gaming was a really bad idea?I know that doesn't stop exploiters but imo budget gaming that relies on cash shops likely will not afford any team, person or care about exploiting or systems after launch.

This is even more a problem when you have a publisher running the game and not the actual developer. The Publisher just signs a contract that from my experience is usually pretty slack.Like provide adequate server capacity and a level of support that is usually really bad.Sometimes you might see in that contract an agreement to add some events but not much more than that,i would expect no contract has ever been signed to handle exploiting.

Having said that, you can blame your fellow gamer for exploiting, this is ruining most of our games, seems people have no morals, they would steal cheat their own family if they could.

This is proof that the market for pay to win games is larger then we first anticipated.  Look at how popular casino's are in Vegas.  This game is nothing more then a virtual casino for mmo players.  Someone should open the Archeage mortgage company to help people pay for their addiction.
Now when you say pay2win, exactly how much are you willing to pay to win? This guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9GqaJaS4bs

I don't know if anyone seen his interview a year ago in reddit, he spent 10000$(dollar not korean won) to regrade+temper all of his gears to mythic and 150% extra defense+power. Now he can kill so many without dying but he has become a sad bitter person, just look at the video. Because of abysmal RNG in AA, only crazy morons who spend that much money can get to the point where they can just press a button and win. yes, by logical explanation this is pure pay2win but are you really interested in spending that much money to kill players in 2 hit and then bitch about it and finally stop playing?

I say that AA is pay to win, but it's also very play to win. It takes a long time to advance in Archeage, so does it matter if someone pays to get a boost or quits their job and all responsibilities to play more than you? Either way the most committed will win. Also, the more people who pay $, the cheaper cash shop items (namely labor potions, APEX, and regrade charms) become for free players.

Plus being in a guild who works together will win 15x over a free solo player, and over 5x a paying solo player.

When a game becomes a job it is time to quit. A lot of players get trapped into playing to keep up with other players. It's almost like smoking addiction in my viewpoint. A game is meant to be played in order to have fun and pass some time.

Should probably quit MMOs then. Or rather gaming in general, playing anygame for an extended amount of time becomes a job, it's also how you get better. That's the thing about life, even professional athletes. Sure they play games, but to them it's a job.

A game where the sub fee is the upper cost limit really is different from one where people can sink pretty much unlimited real-life cash into it.  There are people with addiction problems, and I'm truly uncomfortable seeing companies cashing in by taking advantage of them.  It's already true that MMOs can ruin people's lives by encouraging OCD addictive behavior.  Adding in real financial costs is even worse.

In Archeage you can't walk away from your land without losing it - in other MMOs your character basically goes into hibernation when you stop playing.  There are fees to play the game on top of subscription fees.  There are a lot of gambling ingredients (pay cash, have a chance at a prize).  They change the rules along the way to put things that used to be in-game only into the cash shop.  The people running Trion are, in my book, flatly unethical - like the people who run payday loan schemes that ruin financially unsophisticated borrowers.  Things can be both legal and really shady at the same time.  And the  defences that people make are utterly unconvincing (look!  People break the rules and buy WoW characters, so enormous in-game costs are A-OK!  I have a hundred friends who know how to game the system, so you should come in to be our target!)

Real competitive games, like chess or go, don't let people buy in-game advantages with cash.  It is in our interests as players to make the playing field as level as possible,  precisely so that skill is emphasized, and to minimize the need for dull repetitive play to progress.  So the Archeage model is not one that players should want to see spread.  Fortunately, it's a failure - the lowest rated major MMO on MMORPG, for example, and the sheer lack of publicity on their latest technical problems is a pretty reliable indicator that few are paying attention anymore.   But they probably raked in quite a bit of cash early on, so reminding people of what they're about is really the only outlet that we really have to keep this payment model from spreading.

Nope, regrade charms, 120-150% tempering stones were never in game. They were always on cash shop, in fact 150% tempering stones are still in korean cash shop along with some regrade charms that gives 5% extra chance to regrade, while Trion has decided against putting them in their cash shop. this game was designed the way it is, nobody wanted to research on it when it was still on beta in korea and everybody thought that AA would save sandbox crowd in west. This is what they got, it is the result of being ignorant. Now they are saying Black Desert will save them, some people will never learn.

And Trion is not the only company doing gambling box business, most notorious one for me is SWToR.

There are several contradicting notes about that korean guy.

    - He is a skilled player and could also win his fights against higher gearscore anytime.
    - but he spend lot of cash complaining about it.
    - He obviously lives a campaignm about how "Pay2Win" Archeage is and therefore everyone should not play it but then Archeage is the game he always plays and the game he returns to whenever he tries something else.

    - how can you "win a mmorpg" ?
    - His "win" is just that of become famous while claiming Archeage is "pay2win" riding the mainstream bandwagon opinion.

My theory about these guy is : He don't wanna play a mmoprg really..he lives for  arena ladders and was leading the korean one 1 vs 1 for a bit.
Then one day the inevitable happened, a more skilled player came along and Koon became 2nd and then 3rd.
That made him rage..cause all he cares about isn't a mmorpg in really but him should be number 1, in the 1 vs 1 PvP arena.
From that point in time his campaign started and Archeage as a MMORPG has to pay for him not being the number 1 in the arena 1 vs 1 ladder.

I just took a break from MMOs.  I've been playing console games, MOBAs and hearthstone and have been having a better time than breaking my virtual back in Archeage trying to keep up with p2winners and exploiters.

I miss the MMO experience but I can wait.  Next one I'm looking forward to is Black Desert.  Everything about it seems great, even the stuff DMKano doesn't like such as the minimizing of the group pvp experience.  I've had my taste of open world important PVP in Archeage and Darkfall and although the idea is appealing, it just ends up being frustrating.  You're either ganked by insane sociopaths or in the case of Archeage, entire servers are ruined by guilds run by insane sociopaths.  It's mob rules and that's never fun.

I'm more interested in having fun in fair games.  It's not worth the frustration to play something that's rigged against you from the start.

However, I guess I would still be playing too if I had a bunch of friends still in it because a group of friends can make any online game fun, so I don't blame you for that.

Archeage is P2W anybody who actually plays and PVPs knows this. It's not even up for debate. The only people still trying to refute the facts are guys who farmville 24/7 and dungeon crawl the crappy ass dungeons or tank and spank the world bosses all day basically oblivious to anything beyond their housing and continent hubs. You can continue to be dense or a shill if you want to. Even the guys who don't P2W NOW did at some point to start their in-game plunderings.

Anybody with a clue realizes the amount of gold needed to get the gear scores people are typically walking around in on most servers and those are the SAME people on top of the heap on the leader boards.

It is definitely p2w, but that didn't even bother me that much.  The main thing that drove me out was how Trion basically gave slaps on the wrists of exploiters.  If someone wants to pay lots of real money to kick my ass in a video game, well at least they had to pay for the privelage.  But there were lots of people that cheated their way into fortunes and there was simply no way of competing with them, even through paying.

Same thing happened in Neverwinter and is what drove me out of that game eventually.

It's not worth it for me to stick around in a game that doesn't take cheating seriously.

I wonder how many of those "packed servers" are full or so packed because of bots. Answer will probably be many.

Wouldn't the servers be "packed" because they just had a server merger?  (which is something you do because your original servers were like you know, the opposite of packed?)

A server merge with 2 brand new server.
We now "down" to 17 server alone in the west.  Some of them didnt even got touched.

All the "merge" affair to just lower the amount of server by 2 in each region. Thats the amount they added at launch to please the whiny crowd at launch. Those one who come to forums and whine about how bad Trion is and jump ship few dayso for the next shining thing.

You sound like you are saying it is pay to win.  It clearly is not as seen in this video.  Make sure to focus at 4:20 minutes into it

HAHAHAH, that 1vs5 and he killed them all. I am surprised Kano hasn't tried to defend that;) He must already did. Haha 4 20 is funny. At 8 mins he just he just ran into their castle, and killed like 4 people and ran away.  Who would want to sit there and play this is beyond me haha. I didn't even get that far, to even pvp. I saw it coming as soon as i understood the cash shop, and crafting. Glad I bailed.

Looked fun though, if you had full gear=).
What do you mean? That guy has amazing pvp skills that's why he can 5vs1.
