When you know you are finally done with 3 games you've been rotating through for years and now it's time to pick your new long term game, this is going to be fun! Obviouslly, I'll need all the help I can get and this process won't be easy or simple. It's indeed difficult and more than you would think for a veteran gamer to enjoy games as he/she used to.
The pros of being a veteran are that I can truly pick some great games because I've been through a lot, experienced the best and know what works for me to keep me long term entertained. The cons like every vet gamer is overlooking the negative things about the game that we easily notice. So, in a way it's like measuring and finding the best of what's available right now, not tomorrow or god knows when.
I've really tried hard for almost 5 years purposely to not spend a single cent on any new products mainly from the fundamental concepts I disagree with something I do not envision to be the future of gaming in general, but it is what it is...and almost 5 years is a good streak without spending. Now, if I can continue this streak I would gladly, which is why I'll be looking at the F2P and priivate s products, before shifting to the B2P and then finally the P2P/sub products.
I also understand this community won't be very helpful in this matter mainly from the fact that we all have different tastes and then very small portion are truly enjoying their current products and if they do they rarely discuss why. Then, very few also are well informed and versile when it comes to multiplayer gaming. I purposely want to broaded my options by focusing toward all character/ship/car etc. progression games with both 2d and 3d graphics.
Anyways, to not extend this any further than necessary these are the key things I'll be currently looking for my new game in no particualr order:
1) How special I'll feel being successful at it? Will my actons, choices matter to the community around me? WIll I be valued and needed as an individual or will I be easily replaced due to limited things I can do with my character. So, a game with a sense of community that I can build my reputation around and gain allies/foes to work with or against plays a big role in my decision.
2) How casual or hardcore the game is in terms of what I can do on a daily basis to progress toward certain paths I find meaningful/rewarding with my character? The last thing I want is to find a game where the majority of my free time I have to wait on some reset or some cap or some new content/patch to continue playing it. Also, it's crucial for me that the game gives me some options/freedom to be capable on pursuing goals whitout depending on certain individuals that might not be around during 6 am 6 pm or midnight or simply not be avaialble at all.
3) Finally, security plays a big part in a game where there is permanent economy in a persistant world. So, how vulnerable the game is plays a crucial part for long term commitment. Does the bots easily breach it because of how it's designed? Does staff brings harsh and very punitive actions swiftly to anything that can potentially damage the game long term?
I mean, this is as BASIC as I can be when I'm searching for my new game. So, if this community knows/is experienced with anything that comes closest to what I've outlined please share it. I understand also summer is coming to an end...So, I'll need this game more than ever, being indoor more and such. I already have 1-2 games in mind at the moment, but first I would like to hear players feedback/opinions before I make any final conclusions.
