If you have read the DJs for CoE (and you really should before posting hear, they cover a lot) you'll notice when you create a character you don't just manifest from nothing in a starter town like other MMOs. No, you instead take on a character with a place in the world, parents, a hometown, even a profession. You wont have to spend the first few hours grinding goblins to get out of starter gear, you'll have family to provide you with what your need to contribute to the household.
How do you think this will effect gameplay? What part of early RPG play do you most look forward to skipping?

Player nations! if you start in a family that resides and belongs to a nation you will be part of that, that cuts out a lot of trouble with recruiting.

Where not 100% certain Wards manifest from nothing. DJ5 did mention closed servers, maybe this is caused by not enough children? And if Wards come from nowhere there wouldnt be a limit.
The reincarnation and child creation thing isn't really hard to implement, i mean its basically CKII the MMORPG when you really look at it.

LOL, Yes Wards get no love, but they dont come from nowhere like normall characters in other MMOs, got confirmation on IRC.

Many of these explores will be solo characters, basically rangers and such.
There are not classes in Chronicles of Elyria. As for sorcerers, only about 5% of the souls will have talents and only talented souls will have magic.
Just magically starting with a profession would imo deter what the whole game is trying to do with creating some realism.

You can indeed start as 12 as a Ward. It I 15 if you are joining a family. There is also the option of a non-traditional character NTC) who is over the age of 18. It seems that each option offers something a little bit different. Wards give the most customisation, children within a family give you slightly less customisation but a support structure, and those NTCs have no customisation at all but other benefits with early progression.
Personally I can not decide at all between choosing a Ward or a NTC. I keep going back and forth! Part of me likes the idea of coming in with a place in the world, already owning land etc. Another part thinks that means I will skip one of the most important parts of a game for me, developing my character. I think one of the interesting things for me is that question up in the first post:
I do not look forward to skipping anything. Those early parts of an RPG are nearly always the parts that I look back on the fondest. Perhaps that makes my decision for me.
I don't like to skip anything either,i like all the tedious little things that lead into developing my character.
One of my biggest if not the biggest peeve for me is shallow minded gaming where i just spawn into a world,no reason why i am even there and just vee line right for the nearest yellow question mark.I like to feel there is some rpg there,at least start me in a house or town or something plausible, why am i spending 2 hours customizing my hair color/tattoos then immediately i am killing 10 rabbits for Jake the rabbit hunter.
So i pray to god this game doesn't have me vee lining for any yellow markers no matter i am 12,15 or Colonel Sanders selling fried chicken to Astral Domina.
