They are ALL cartoony. Some are just less cartoony than others. Studies have been done on peoples reaction to "too real". If something is "too real", people react negatively in games to things that are too fantastical in nature. Google it.

Well I mean less cartoony than EQ Next. Something along the lines of EQ2 is my preference.
Let me get this straight, all this of a new company is based off the fact that he listed himself as CEO of another company on his facebook profile. Wow, just wow. Lets not waiting for any type of official news lets just base everything we know in life off facebook, in which case anyone that bases my life off of my facebook means I am screwed and don't have a chance.
I left EverQuest (1 and 2) many years ago. I hope that something new, exciting, and good will happen with Norrath now that Smedley is finally gone.
So did Smedley ever actually do any work or was he always just a figurehead?
What he does so well is screw people out of money. I predict a year from now this new company will go under. It is what he does, loses other people's money!

From what I've read he was a hands on leader. He involved himself in all aspects of the company and knew what was going on in all departments.
I do not claim to have the best memory out there but could swear that several years ago i heard Smedley had a sort of conference room at home where he communicated with the team, point being he rarely spent time at the studio. However i could be confusing him with another notable figure but since i don't know many notable figures i am sure it was him.
On him leaving, well my stereotype of him an others in leader positions is that they are are sort of power trippers, they do not like to take orders only give them,so it would make sense he felt no longer in charge so wants a new business to lead.
I did put some thought into how much money he likely has and why he would not just retire.I figure of late he sees a brand new market to EXPLOIT,and he would be correct. This current market to me shows a lot of careless and freewill spending, gamer's are literally buying all kinds of crap that would have never made it 10 years ago.I am quite certain his eyes opened wide when he saw how easy it was to make money releasing a totally unfinished not even worthy of Alpha game in H1z1. Point being he sees that now is not the time to get out, easy money to be made,he likely even goes for the kickstarter gimmick everyone else is going for.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Again....what? Do you even ever read the facts or just spout your opinion?
"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to. Relax....."
Pantheon, Rise of the Fallen is EQ3, if it ever ships. People seem to think it will but I'm not so sure. I kicked in some money to the kickstarter because it's worth the gamble to me.

Smedley was one of the most influential but also disastrous players in MMORPG history.
He managed to wheedle the Star Wars franchise from Lucas Arts and then created Star Wars Galaxies - an gigantic, open world MMO. However, he allowed his marketing team to set the objectives for the production team, and the game was launched half-finished. He then fired the team that created the world because he considered them too expensive to sustain after launch, he refused to invest in bug fixing and he kept on imposing 'quick fix' after 'quick fix' in an effort to stop the game haemorrhaging players. Ultimately, he gave the thumbs up to the New Game Enhancements that attempted to change the game from an open world RRP into a linear first person shooter, and effectively killed this massive franchise opportunity stone dead.
Think no one could make such a mistake twice? Think again. Smedley launched the Matrix Online - another MMO based on one of the world's most successful IPs, an IP that was all about virtual life online - and through mismanagement and a refusal to invest, ran the game into the ground within two years.
He bought Vanguard, thinking it would be a fantasy MMO to rival World of Warcraft. However, because he personally doesn't know much about games and doesn't play them himself, he again didn't realise that this was another game that was unifnished. He launched it and then, quite deliberately, left it under-resourced to die a slow death.
So many bad decisions that killed off potentiall good games; from the POTBS, another over-marketed and under-supported game that took off only when Sony Online dropped it to the horrendous cluster fuck that is Landmark that received a gigantic surge of support until people saw the shallow, cartoonish vision Smedley was trying to ram down their throats. So many other examples could be quoted.
A bad influence on the industry, a horrible decision-maker, a killer of games.

He is what we call the destroyer of games. You can trust him with your money but not mine!
