Grouping/Guilds in EVE are called Gangs/Corporations to tie into the sci-fi atmosphere that it is set into. Finding yourself some people to setup a gang is relatively easy. When you start the game, you are in an npc controlled corporation (non-player controlled guilds) and can usualy find people quickly to do stuff with.

As for corporations, they are the basis of many game mechanics. Anyone can start a corporation, they simply have to find a station with an empty office space, rent it out and come up with a name/tag/banner. You can always change corporations if your not happy (all you have to do is apply using the in-game interface and a corporation can then check out if it wants you or not). Player runned corporations can declare CONCORD sanctionned wars on other player runned corporations and alliances (alliances are simply multiple corporations who have united themselves under an even large flag).

You do not have to run around in gangs in EVE under a big corporate flag however, it is highly suggested since in open-space (0.0 security rating) , there is full-out pvp and since open-space carries the best financial rewards, it is often contested by large corporations and prayed upon by pirates.

Ok, EXPLAIN EVE Online.  What is it like.  I mean all space, or what?  I have played WOW, EQ2, SWG, and COH so tell me how the game plays.  I see mostly just space battles and such in the screenshots and videos.  So please go into detail with the game.

Or instead of having everyone else do the work, you could go to their main page EVE Online and notice in the top left corner it says "Backstory", "FAQ", and "Features". Those alone will pretty much sum the game up, it's a bit of reading but you'd probably get your answer much quicker.

No need to be a smarta$$.  I don't need to read that, I need actual player opinions and such.  Any game site can make a game seem like God's gift to gaming but I wanted to hear from players on how the game works, not PR from a games website.

no offense, but if you dont bother to read the eve-site, then i'm not so sure eve is for you.

Eve is complicated... sometimes very much so.

A lot of it is about comparing stats, maximising your setup with different modules etc etc

there are really thousands of different modules, all of which have different advantages and disadvantages.

A good portion of the game (10%+) is min-max'ing stats to suit your particular playstyle.

The flying is point click - double click in a direction and the ship heads that way... lots of menus as well.

DO NOT compare or think of a flight sim with this game, its more like you are the captain of a ship and giving orders to your crew (go this way, orbit that, keep rage, target and shoot etc). You are not the person really shooting the guns or sitting int he cockpit game-experience wise.

Unlike most other games, you are NOT the hero in this game. You are just one more employee of a corporation or a freelancer. Corporations and alliances rule this game and are the power makers.

There is an absurd amount of freedom is which skills to choose and learn.

take a look at Item Database which lists a lot of in game items...

Personally, i'm a combat pilot, specialising in frigates (and t2 versions). I know how to fight and fit out small ships to be very very useful. I can fly battleships but dont have the experience to properly fit and use them effectively. I know nothing about industry or science, and POS (player owned structures) are a complete mystery to me.

My corp has people who are good at all those things though, so we have our own POS making t2 components for high tech frigs and cruisers, which is good for me cause i use them a lot and they die fast if you make a mistake.

Eve is strange - sometimes it can be very slow and relaxing, mixed with a few moments of amazing adrenalin rushes (very few, but nothing beats them).

Think of Eve as a very complicated game of chess - its all about tactics and preparation - most battles are won/lost well before there is any contact. and ALL ships can be very useful in various situations, bigger ships allow for smore flexibility/power, but a battleship can be destroyed by drones if it has a bad setup....

and yes, its complete in space.. there are no "human avatars". you are basically always inside a ship of somekind.

I read a good bit of the site, but see you gave me more than the site would ever have.  Thanks.  Space only isn't for me.  Again, thanks for the info.
