why gw2 is doing it right

HOT is not going to have dungeon or raids..but it is going to be one of the best multiplayer  game i have ever played because instead of going into dungeon with 4 other( usually) or raid with 19 other (usually) ..and start fighting over healing sucks or dps sucks or tank sucks..kick that guy..blah blah blah

instead you are going to a open world with dynamic events that requires you and at least 49 others to co-operate and it require co-ordination and team work..for example outposts.you need to capture them and defend them to progress in the zone and future events are depend on it base on your success or failure ..obviously you need good commanders and team work..also more players are welcome addition no matter how they like to play..similar to silverwaste but much more developed.

similar system  for world bosses.

this is more social than any other so called mmo i have ever played.

its all about joining others and having fun kicking ass..but you must play smartly and be a team player or the event will fail.

First Beta was awesome. Second beta weekend already meh(downgrade begins).

Third beta weekend was again dumb down.

But i still loved how world looks, i had high hope for open world and its dynamic events.

Then the event zergs begin with more dumb down so cry babys got there way.

In mean while Cash shop getting more more interest and more and more spoonfed/ezmode you could buy get from shop.

Then world after few months starting to be empty dynamic events totally failed and more and more with new dungeon start grinding in lion arch dungeon for better items gear.

Then i quit game was easy and totally failed with dynamic events and open world it was EMPTY(i played on one biggest servers in europe).

I came back for dry top map, man what shitty map plus not much new. Still EMPTY world no dynamic events for most and CASH SHOP DOMINANT present in this game people still grinding endless in WvW which was even DUMBER ZERG FOR HOURS in circle for pvp points what joke or dungeons for there precious pve gear.
Dumb fluff i also hated every day these dumb chest you get with cookies wtf.

Nah this game died early on was from beginning infected with ezmode/spoonfed wow bug.

Ive played it totally 6 months i realy tried(also because of friend keep asking to play with him) but i could not terible game as so many mmo's these days.

GW2 is as shallow as a street puddle

Not sure GW2 is doing it right OR wrong.   What's right for me and others with my playstyle is obviously wrong for someone else.  However, I'm not concerned with others, so it doesn't really matter.  They just do things different which really seems to get under some peoples skin.  So nothing new.

All I know is that it's constantly in the top 20 here:

    http://caas.raptr.com/category/most-played/

I know those who don't like GW2 will argue against Raptr and I really don't care.  When games like ESO only make that list once (at their launch), it shows that GW2 must be doing something right if a lot of people are playing it.

I thought they were merging the servers and shutting down.

I've never been a fan of their dynamic event system. More than not the outcome isn't determined by the skillful play of the group but actually by the horrendous play of a few individuals.

Vinewrath is a good example of this. If someone goes into the teragriff tunnels and pops the bubbles early, the teragriff event will fail which will trigger the entire champion event to fail.

You could literally have 99 of the best players in the world jammed into that Silverwastes and that 1 guy goes in and pops the bubbles early, everyone fails.

That is AWFUL design. Nobody wants to fail when they play good especially because of a random person they have no control over. In other games you at least get the opportunity to remove a disruptive player from your group. ANet, on the other hand, expects you to sit there and fail over and over again. Oh and don't type anything, they will suspend you I'm a heartbeat.

Love the game really, but HATE the de-leveling. They remove that, I'll be back, AND buy the expansion.

    If it stays, I don't.

  • JemcrystalJemcrystal Member UncommonPosts: 1,990

What deleveling???  The only mmo I ever played with deleveling was FFXI.

GW2 is not for everyone.  I liked it because it has a bit of everything and a huge map.

Yes solo play is encouraged with everyone being able to self heal but there are lots of things you can't do alone in the game and need a group/raid.  The longer you play the more used to group events you get.  I played solo for a while before I found groups to hang with.  You have to invest an effort to reach out and talk to people and join guild(s).  It's not always roses.  It can be hard with every guild I join demanding I rep them only.  Then they afk for a week or more and leave me in the game bored and alone.  So I join other guilds anyway even if I get kicked.

My last epic fail in GW2 was joining a guild on Teamspeak made up of people all from Singapore.  I couldn't understand them outside of chat but I wanted a group that did WvW on a schedule.  They decided to leave our server so I left the guild.  Somehow it broke Teamspeak for me.  I can't join channels.  I think the guild leader of the Singapore guild set my Teamspeak name on Temp Visitor.  That means I get auto logged out of Teamspeak and cannot enter any channels to ask for help.  I can't get anyone to fix it for me.  Very frustrating.

What I hate about GW2 are the dailies.  Or at least the UI that makes dailies hang there on the right side of my screen forever.

You know you can minimize that, right?

GW2 frustrates the hell out of me. I really like the combat and the art style is truly amazing. But I find the game so very shallow when it comes to PVE. It just does not engage me, it feels like there is nothing meaningful to work for and everything is just too easy. Maybe HoT will change up some things, but the game lost me as a player already.

By comparison I went back to FFXIV and have had some of the more memorable PVE experiences in my 15 years of MMOs. Not starting a contest between the two, horses for courses and all that, but I just find it sad that for all GW2 does well, it doesn't hold my interest in the way FFXIV does.

I'm the completely opposite, removing the de-leveling or making it optional would be a reason for me (and several others I've talked to) to leave.

I don't think I'd be able to go back now to an MMO where once you hit level cap, only the few top level maps stay relevant and the rest of the world and all the maps you visited while leveling up just don't matter anymore. And I'd hate it to be optional as well because I've always hated in other games when I was leveling up trying to get kill some mobs for whatever reason (questing, farming, etc) and some high level character strolled around AoE one-shooting everything around.

GW2 might not be the perfect game, far from it, but at least for me the down-leveling system is one of the big pluses it has.

What can men do against such reckless hate?

I don't understand people who want to remove the level scaling - most of the maps would become trivial to a level 80 character. Why would you want that? Low level areas are already laughably easy even WITH the level scaling.

And the whole game would break, since people at different levels would no longer be able to play together comfortably.

For me its a mmo with an empty feeling, no connection with my character and no desire to return....

Most of the maps are already trivial.  Start and end areas are really the only populated places aside from the city hubs.

It's always felt very lite to me.  I still like it, but it would never be my go-to MMO.

I wish GW2 would have abandoned the personal story, home instance, dungeons, WvW, the "living story", and all of the heart "quests" and gone-all in on the public events system.

sPvP was GW1's bread and butter, should be in GW2 of course. But the rest? Only a meaningless distraction from what should have been the core game - world events.

Events driven by logic and variables rather than sequences in the exact same order over and over again.

Events that spanned across maps and truly affected the world.

But no, they got scared. They backed down. They tried to offer too much to too many subsets of players.

YOu can' t have it both ways.

Either everyone needs to know what to do ... and if one (or a few) fails, the whole thing fails.

Or no one really matters, and you always win.

    Take you pick.

Time for a reality check, a fight with a hundred players that fails due to 1 error or malicious act is poorly designed, logic and processing power can obviously flex around such events.

Ofc games that focus on super highly tuned scripted crap that relies on dps/threat sump/healer can't cope with this, but those games will die eventually- tier 86 anyone?

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

Something that isn't out yet is going to be the best multi-player game you've ever played in your life? I have to say that I dig your enthusiasm. I don't however, necessarily love the ideal of what their doing... or maybe it's just the way you explain it. I tend to play very very late at night, or early AM. Typically, in most games I play during the hours with the least amount of players on. That being said, if there are no 49 people around to help me, I can't do the thing? I'm sure there are tons of things to do, but doesn't that kinda make it like waiting for a dungeon, just on a larger scale? Waiting around is waiting around.

I would say WvW is one of the best thing they achieved in the game. And prolly one of the reason why it has a good player base.

    Why?

With that you only get top levels boosting lower level friends and one shotting everything, ruining everything for the normal players that level up the right way.

Look at WoW, it needs to stay WoW, no need for GW2 to turn into that linear themepark disaster with 98% empty maps.

I like guild wars, particularly the PvP. Probably the best PvP I've come across in a MMORPG. But it doesn't feel like an MMO which is probably a good thing considering the quality of the majority of MMOs.

Gw2 is an ok mmo, but its by no means a great mmo, It's a bit shallow and caters way too much to casual players, Apart from that its ok and has pretty graphics and some nice mechanics, I think it's a solid 6/10.

I'm with you, I felt like it was just shy of meaty enough and with a bit too much cuteness for my tastes.

GW2 by design is one of the least social games I have ever played. Because you never need to call upon anyone you never befriend anyone. You were forced to put effort into previous games.
