depends on what you expect for a mission,i expect the same old same old very boring stuff. If it is 70 compelling mission you would love to do over and over that is a difference.

As for landing on planets and cashing,i think some are still way over expectant from this game.I expect more instances, small ones at that than running around a planet.

The perfect reason why is because myself i would have designed the game with stations on the ground not just some instance hangar pretending to be in space.I doubt you will see ANY interaction between your hangars and space, they would need a good engine and to differentiate zone lines for it to happen,MUCH easier for them to just make instances.

This game is going to imo go down as SWTOR did,a game that COULD have been but never realized that EPIC feeling.

Epic is not just done in pvp but can be even better if done on a grande scale with PVE.it would bring everyone together to perhaps overtake some alien base on planet  and in space. That is where most every mmo lacks, they fail to bring the world and the players alive, instead you always feel locked up in some instance cockpit or instance hangar and likely an instance on ground as well.

I would rather not get hyped or expect anything from a game because 99% the time they are all very lack lustre,i rather see this finished product then form a critque of the game.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

As long as it doesn't turn out to be some awful cross between Top Gun, Brokeback Mountain with military fantasy overtones and a script that a 70's porn film could better while including every shite sci-fi trope known to man then it should be ok.

But then again, this is Chris Roberts we're talking about, so prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

They should alowed optional downloading for separated modules !

Keep in mind that even if someone is only interested in the space sim part, in Star Citizen one can NEVER exclude the FPS part. If someone cripples your ship, you can be boarded. And the boarding action will be FPS style combat.

If someone finds this unacceptable, then Star Citizen may not be her/his game.

That Star Citizen utilizes all elements - including FPS. That is known since 2012. ("A rich universe focused on epic space adventure, trading and dogfighting in first person.")

some people prefer to be a cockpit, to be the ship, and never leave it. They are stuck in the 90ies, let ´em.

I enjoy having an avatar that can actually get out of his seat and do something with his legs.

so many misconceptions I wonder why you don´t read up any information on the game first, then post later

    1. Really glad YOU don´t design the game

    2. There ARE stations on the ground, the hangar complexes are on planets and you can walk out and be on the planet and see people and NPCs. You can also take an elevator to your friends hangars with a unique number. You can also get expansions for your hangar and place decorations there. There are also hangars in space like the asteroid hangar and you will be able to fly out of it manually, just open the doors. There are also landing platforms in space, you will able to land manually get out and walk around in open space, or fly around in zero-g if you like.

early example of how it looks

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ho9n0xaC3Gk

    3. The engine is Cryengine, it can´t get any better than that and for every feature they want, they can get it implemented by the original people who developed the engine because they even hired some staff who worked on the Crytek team, CIG has now a studio in Frankfurt, where Crytek is located

    4. The comparison to SWTOR is insulting, and I like SWTOR, but.. that comparison is ridiculous

    5.  The game will have tons of PVE, how anyone can think it will be PvP-only just proves you did zero research, just posting random stuff without knowledge

    6. You won´t notice any instancing, ever, it will all be seamless and it has been explained in great length for example in this video

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0r6aOasFEQ

And there is no game without instancing because you can´t stack 10000 high fidelity ships in a small secluded space unless you are an RTS like Eve and use tricks like slowing down time. Are you complaining about technical limitations set by physics, hardware and internet bandwidth, please travel 20 year the future and play a game there

Original post was updated with clarifications from CIG devs and a good summary by a forum poster of the official SC forums.

Actually, crippling a ship and boarding it, totally up for that tbh, same with defending, even makes more sense if you have a multi crewed ship, if anything i would say that it will probably become the main focus of the game, as piracy, as demonstrated in Eve Online, is a highly popular form of gameplay, and boarding actions will just increase that form of game plays attractiveness. So, bypassing Sqn 42 and hitting the fringe/lawless space and joining a pirate outfit, i can totally see that being hugely popular, bring it on image

I wonder if I can self-destruct my ship if it  is crippled and is being boarded.

And I mean self-destruct so quickly that the boarders have minimal warning  (cannot escape, cannot disarm the self-destruct charges, cannot hack the ship computer and abort self-destruct).

With the "Death of a spaceman" permadeath mechanics that would be a powerful denial technique  ("..yes, my avatar will be killed ... but your 4 player boarding marines will die too....").

However, keeping in mind that this is a Chris Roberts game and he likes cinematic scenes - there will most likely be red flashing lights, klaxons blaring, a visible and audible countdown, partial explosions and narrow escapes etc.

That would definitely make things interesting, as would having an inside man on a 'ship hijack' job to prevent such a thing happening image

Expensive ship owners really need to pay attention to the tactics often used in Eve Online, brute force is not the only option, and whole Alliances/Corporations etc, have been brought down by having the right person, in the right place, at the right time image

Also reminds me of a certain episode in Firefly too image

can´t wait for this, good old fashioned single player campaigns are rare these days. Just look at Battlefront, no campaign at all.  I think SC will be tough competition for SW-BF on SQ42 release in December-
