I'm not saying Shroud of the Avatar is a scam because most questionable ethics are out on the table. There is no law stopping a kick starter money raising crusade. Things are expensive.  Time and time again we see expensive F2P or Kick starters that wind up being crazy bad.

So why would anyone even consider it ?  I see people here asking questions about work arounds.  Would it not be better to just simply let this game pass you by or at the very least wait for release ?......Maybe it's curious ?

It's kind of like this :

You read in the news paper that someone is a hotel is giving away a thousand dollars.  You approach room 201 and people are coming out telling you they had to give a hundred dollars and will get a thousand back in the mail in four to six weeks, and you end up going in anyway....What would make a person go in ?

    Is this a riddle?

Obviously the answer is the cow would of had three legs, he could of talked to the pig while they drank coffee at Dennys.

Hay, I have an idea !......Why don't you give Portalarium Inc. $400, You know the publishers of Shroud of the Avatar.  You'll have everything needed to get you going in this game :)

I paid $60 and got SotA plus the next 2 episodes (they had kickstarter pricing plus a $20 code from I think Alienware so 80-20=60)

I've had access since the beginning but choose to wait until it's more developed.

So OP let me ask YOU a question... have YOU ever pre-ordered a game?  because that's how I look at what I did.  I pre-ordered a game and got all 3 episodes for $20 each.  Could it suck?  Absolutely, but so could that game I would normally pre-order for $60.  At least here it's being made by some of my favorite developers so there is at least a good chance that I will enjoy it.   For folks that do not want to participate just wait until development is finished, read the reviews and the buy the game or don't buy it.

Do you consider $60 "expensive" for all 3 episodes?  How about the original $25 I paid for the first episode before upgrading?  Is that too expensive for a game?  How about the $9 I put towards Dungeons of Aledorn? How about the $5 I tossed at Starship Empires?

I have backed maybe 10 Kickstarters and the only one that has disappointed so far is Pathfinder.  Not all are playable yet so time will tell but so far I have enjoyed the Kickstarters I have participated in.

I have had bad meals that cost me more than what I paid for SoTA, heck I have gone to see bad movies that ended up costing me more.  I just look at it the same way that I look at any service that I spend money on, upfront cash is my choice, my continued cash is the result of the value I feel I got on my upfront cash.

In the case of SoTA I think that even at this early stage it was worth the up front cash I have paid.
