Down the drain

Trion Worlds send me an unwanted promotional e-mail for ArcheAge just to prove they are slipping even further.

It takes one to know one.

I get promotional emails from Amazon. I heard they're going down the drain. True story bro.

So you are saying that any company that wants YOU to play their game must be so desperate for customers that they have started scraping the bottom of the barrel.
  • Viper482Viper482 Member LegendaryPosts: 4,105
Anyone who argues this game did not already go down the drain is fooling themselves. I got the email too, I saw it as a desperate attempt to get people back....because what other game has done this within 6 months of release? I have played most major MMOs and this is the absolute first. This MMO has been mismanaged beyond belief. Within 6 months already raising the levels up by 5 and sending out emails trying to get people back? Are you kidding me? If that is not a sign of a failed launch I don't know what is.

One thing i've found, is that if you don't like receiving those kinds of emails, don't tick the box on their website when you register an account etc, that says your interested in hearing news/updates etc. regarding the game. These companies don't tend to send out blind emails after all image

I haven't been back to this game since the first week fiasco, and don't plan on coming back even though I bought into this game. Worst money I ever spent and ruined it for me on giving my money to other kickstarters. What happened to the days of actually being chosen for alphas and betas? No incentive will want me to come back to this game.

I think a good sign of a failed launch would be shutting down the servers and laying off the employees, not emailing people to come play the game.

Info: There is a option to not recive more promotional emails from Trion, this way no need to bother making posts like this one.

I could try to replie using logic but logical replies dont work good in unlogical posts, so i decide only to share some usefull info.

Player's obsession about what others have or how they got it in his game is mind boggling. When just about every complaint revolves around "whaaa my neighbor has "x", I want "X" too or I am quitting" is the most childish behavior I have ever seen in an MMO. Gone are the days of players setting goals and spending time to achieve them.  There is a great social experiment here.

To make matters worse, the complaint about the dolphin is directly linked to "lack of self control" in the cash shop. I am sorry if you blow an unreasonable amount on a RNG box and don't get squat. That isn't Trion's fault, it's yours. Fucking common sense in dead to some. God forbid if these same players visit a casino some day demanding for their money back because the person next to them won on slots and they didn't. See how far that takes you.... most likely to the basement strapped to a chair.

The MMO player base has devolved into a group of entitled whiny children without a logical thought in their heads and are completely ruled by emotion.

I've always liked Jabas... throughout all the crap about ArcheAge, he's stayed true to the most important aspect in gaming... if it's fun, nothing else matters.  He plays the game because it is fun in spite of it's failings.

    Cheers!

This game went down the drain after launch...

Alpha was a ton of fun, but no tricks no traps flew out of the window when they released the game.

Sad tough as it had so much going for it if Trion / XLGames dint showed their pure greed and destroyed the game within 2 months.

Actually the game has been constantly evolving for the better,

    • Archeum fix incoming
    • Trion is openly communicating about just about every customer concern/complaint
    • Hacking is all but non-existant
    • Bots have been marginalized
    • Mail spam is gone
    • Gold seller spam is nearly gone
    • I haven't heard of any land hacks in months
    • Offline labor=online labor soon for patons
    • More patron perks coming thus better value
    • Many RNG box items added to the loyalty shop as an alternative.
    • Trion is making fast progress to catch KR in patch versions
    • Road map for the entire year unveiled with dates

I know the haters want the majority to think that nothing has changed from launch but that is the BIG LIE. In reality, no matter what the haters want the majority to believe, AA is still one the few MMO's that is unique and has little to no equivalent in the market. The total package is currently unmatched. I wonder how many of these players who left AA to prove a point are actually learning a lesson themselves and that being you are left with shallow garbage games with no long term value. MAYBE there are a few of us left that remember that MMO's don't release perfect and it takes time to get to am acceptable level. Those of us who have faith in what AA is at it's core and are willing to not give up at the first sign of trouble like many have apparently so quickly.

My only true disapointment revolving the release of AA, is it's players.

  • TiamatRoarTiamatRoar Member RarePosts: 1,697

The game still has the labor system, RNG crafting, and the gameplay itself is still the same.  For those who hate the labor system, those who hate the RNG crafting, and those who feel the gameplay was terrible (like how the PvP in those peoples' eyes is overly CC-based), nothing has significantly changed.

Of course, in that case, for those people, it's not so much "down the drain" as "still in the drain", but whatever.

I've received Promotional E-mails for games as they come out of beta (launch) essentially day one...

Most send them out for any major patch as well, which is quite often before the 6 month mark.

I don't care about the state of AA as I don't play it, I have no first hand knowledge of it's playerbase...... Yet, this in red certainly isn't true.

    OP,

I personally hate the business model of this game and condemn it whenever I can however...  Even I can not complain about them sending out emails to get more players.  Every game needs to market itself continuously.  Trions reputation took a kick to the teeth over the last 6 months due to the greedy nature of the cash shop they allowed in Archeage.  It is only natural that they do some marketing to try and bring some players back.

    Steel,

I dont understand how you can call Archeage unique.  Endgame is just the same PVP over and over again.  You can PVP in the arena, on a boat or on land but it is just PVP.  What is so unique about this?  Also, you are correct, there have been changes but the changes dont really effect the core issues with the game.  Are castle sieges still borked?  YEP, is PVP still dominated by those with the best gear (spend the most money in the cash shop) YEP.  While I agree Trion is making an effort with labor by changing offline regen rates for subbers, that is simply not enough to change the reputation of it being a pay-to-win game.

    1. "I dont understand how you can call Archeage unique." Because it takes 10+ mmo's combined to match the feature set of AA. Even then some features are unique to AA.
    2. "Endgame is just the same PVP over and over again." I would venture to say at least in the open world every PvP encounter is unique. Some of the best/most unique PvP encounters I have ever had have been in AA. Arenas shouldn't be in this game IMHO, so I avoid them.
    3. "Are castle sieges still borked?". A lot of these issues are resolved in KR. Trion has stated that they are trying to get XL to deliver the Siege fixes early.
    4. "Dont really effect the core issues with the game". Land hacks/botting/exploits most definately affect the core of teh game and it's economy.
    5. "PVP still dominated by those with the best gear (spend the most money in the cash shop) YEP.  " Working as intended, this isn't GW2. Stop worrying about your neighbor!
    6. "Reputation of it being a pay-to-win game." Opinion not fact.

Info: unwanted means those options were unchecked for all their games. No promotional e-mail should have be send. The fact that they still went ahead means they are slipping.

While I could debate these points with you, it seems a fruitless effort.  You can not even concede that the game does have a reputation as a pay-to-win game even when the majority of posters here and every other forum make mention of this.  If you refuse to acknowledge facts, there seems little use in discussing anything else.  As proof of what I am saying, you pick the forum and run a poll and simply ask if Archeage is pay-2-win.  If the results show a majority think it is pay-2-win then my "opinion" is valid and you admit the game does indeed have a reputation of being pay-2-win.

P2W is the most overused label in the entire MMO genre. Players label games as P2W at the drop of the hat. In most cases the reasons players say so is HIGHLY exaggerated. So yeah, lets not debate.

Facts to you, is opinion to others.

R2Games makes millions off of their F2P games, and they use the term P2W too, with many of the aspects of what they themselves call P2W existing in Archeage as well.  I'd trust the terminology of a business that makes a ton of money from that business (thus showing they know what they're talking about by showing how they know how to obtain RESULTS from their business) more than the feelings of a random poster any day.

If P2W is a good enough term for a business that makes millions off of F2P games, it's a good enough term for me.
