Frontier has now announced the 5 potential building sites for a new space station (forget the names that have been written in the official Galnet news - most of them are wrong and you won't find them on the map):
MAIA
HIP 101110
HIP 117585
HIP 27215
SYNUEFE FR-T B36-3
(at the moment entering that name sends you to the wrong system on the map, i suspect a snafu in the background database where two names exist to name the same system).
All these systems are several hundred lightyears from SOL, so they are on the edge of civilization. Scan them all, chose one that you like most (if you fancy black holes, you have that one too .... Restaurant at the End of the Universe anyone ?) and sell the data to THAT system to the Cartography Office. The system that gets the most data entries will be chosen as the site for the next space station.
Fear not, you can always sell the rest of the data later once the selection process is over.
After a system has been selected and the Explorer players have finished their task, a lot of construction work will start. Thats the realm of the players that are inclined to hauling, trading and mining. Millions of tons of construction materials will be needed to build first an outpost and later a full sized station (most likely a Coriolis station).
I fully expect a lot of pirates - both NPC and players - to prey on the shipping lanes. That will create lot of missions for bounty hunters and LOTS OF BOOTY for ya dastardly pirate types, YARR !

If you want your very own space station, have a chat with an old veteran from the Elite 1984 days .... a 200 year old barman cyborg that basically bought up a whole space station over time, then welded some engines unto it and started moving around.
Behold - Jaques Station (in all its glory)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJIdxHyfLtc
Comments in French - after all its named Jaques ;-)
The station will do a grand tour throughout many inhabited systems over the next months. Check it out, have a drink in Jaques bar ...
Galnet News report:
"Some years ago Jaques’ Station left its orbit around the moon of Topaz. It’s mission? To discover new beverages, explore distant stars, and bravely go where no starport had been before. When the starport left on its journey the station was being captained by the toughest barman in all of occupied space, a part-Cyborg known only by the moniker of Jaques.
Jaques’ transformation from man to machine began during the time he served as a member of the Quinentis Fourteens, a Federal black ops strike team. His unit was captured by enemy forces during the Battle of Hell’s Gate.
The intrepid ex-soldier spent close to the next 200 years improving his cybernetic implants and saving up to buy the station in order to head off and explore the stars in style, and he is happy for people to join him. Stay tuned to GalNet to find out all the latest developments as they occur."
Have fun
PS:
If you stay docked there, you may wake up in another system than the one you docked in. The jumping station just takes you with it.
At Jaques’ Station you can buy a (single) rare trade item : Jacques Automated Distillery
(raises spirits in more ways than one ;-) , can convert almost anything into liquor. Gets you a quite nice price (20.000+) if you sell it further than 100 lightyears away .. for instance in Yembo.
In Yembo 3100 players are currently contributing more than 4 Megatons of metal to the project of crafting a new space station. This will then be moved to the chosen system (HIP 101110). You can earn a moderate profit from mining or trading metal (you COULD earn more elsewhere), but as you have hired on as an official contractor, you will get a share of the profit when the work is done. The shares will be decided based on the overall contribution of the community, so any help by other players is very welcome.
The metal gathering phase will continue for the next 3.5 days. Other construction and hauling phases will come after that.
If you want to meet other players in Elite:Dangerous ... Yembo is the place to go !
Have fun
PS: Official Galnet news:
"After a week of speculation, Universal Cartographics have today announced that the system chosen to receive what is planned to be the first of a new fleet of UC controlled Explorer Station’s will be HIP 101110.
Samuel Covington, the leader of the committee in charge of choosing HIP 101110 as the target location, had this to say about the announcement -
“Hopefully this will be the first step in putting a more robust support system in place for all the brave men and women who risk their lives out there in the black. It won’t be easy establishing a station so far away, but we believe the rewards far outweigh any obstacles that might crop up along the way.”
Partial construction of the new station will take place in the shipyards of Yembo. Anyone capable of sourcing metals are advised to get themselves over to Naddoddur Terminal - Yembo straight away, as Universal Cartographics are offering some exceptional incentives to Commanders helping with their current construction efforts."
Station finished and on its way to HIP 101110, where it will arrive shortly. See video.

Official Galnet News about the station:
"Thanks to the combined efforts of entrepreneurs, small business owners and corporate sponsors, preparations for the launch of the new EAUC Exploration Ocellus are now well underway. 4871 commanders contributed over 8154177 tons of metal to the project, which in turn has allowed the EAUC coalition to outfit the station to a level far beyond their original specifications.
Universal Cartographics has released a statement thanking the committee members who wisely chose the mineral rich system of HIP 101110 as the potential launch site, as well as to Zimm_Macugz for organising the delivery of an impressive 150000 tonnes of raw materials.
The new station is expected to be ready for its maiden voyage to HIP 101110 within the next few days."

After flying 220 lightyears i arrived in HIP 101110, or as it is now called: New Yembo. It has MANY resource sites for miners or for bounty hunters to protect the miners from pirates !
The station is already there, but named "Under Construction". The rotating rings are still missing. It seems to be still moving to its final position (sublight drives are running full power). Its classified as tiny population, refinery.
Some station functions are available: refuel, rearm, repair, Contacts (including Black Market ;-), Market (Ore !), Universal Cartography
Some functions not yet available: MIssions, Shipyard, Outfitting
A word of warning ... the station is in an area with many uninhabited young stars. That means: NO other stations and ONLY A FEW stars where you can do fuel scooping (many young T Tauri stars around). Fill up with a fuel scoop whereever you can on your way to New Yembo.
