I would suggest anyone to try the game but i doubt you will stay very long.I found the game enjoyable until about level 30.Then i decided to try every single class and the same i got bored at the same intervals.I took a long break went back and got bored much quicker, like within days, the game is just too simple and generic in all of it's design,it is like an assembly line game production, nothing feels hand made or loved.

I think of a game like W101,all you do is waddle around from one corner to the next doing these meaningless boring quests, you can only do that for so long until you question yourself and why you keep login to do that over and over.

I hope somewhere out there developers listen to REAL gamer's and not media, they NEED to start stepping up the quality and effort or this genre is going to cellar. Not surprised at all that Moba's have taken over and other very simple browser games, the quality of mmo's has been shallow.

If I got this game. What kind of expenses am I looking at to just enjoy the game. I see $4.99 to become preferred. What about content costs such as expansions, area, classes? Any other costs I might want? Does preferred get plenty of storage?  I don't get to wrapped up in cosmetics, skins, RNG lootboxes / chests whatever.  I see that there is a 350k credit cap even with preferred.  Thoughts.

Main story is avalible to you for free as are sub quest but some item usage is locked (though you can buy the right to use them. I personally just sub to the game when i play because it removes all restrictions.

free 7 day sub and unlocks for swtor new accounts and 90+ day inactive subs click here to get it!

It really depends on you and what you enjoy.

I think if you played with another person you could enjoy the game as preffered a lot more than playing as sub solo.

Being a subscriber you get some benefits which you only notice later on and not really in your first few hours of gameplay including limiting action bars which you unlock with preffered.

So I would say if the importance of not having all your money being accessible while lvling the first time (which it shouldn't be) and not getting rest exp is a problem with having limited trials of pvp weekly and raids/fps weekly then it shouldn't be a problem.

I would say for alting that subbing is more important. There are other things to consider like legacy exp which you might get more of while subbed, so if you are going to play for a month, and play a few characters then its wroth subbing imo.

Its a solid lvling experience with interesting combat that do feel iconic to the classes. So you might want to try more than one class, and you might want to sub or get preffered so you don't have limitation on character creation.

Id say if you were going to spend $20 easily for fun, then doing that for swtor the first time is worth it.

And this is coming from a bitter long time player that wants something new, but in reality for a new player its a pretty good game.

The populations are healthy enough, but playing with your own friends really adds a depth to the game that is a lot more enjoyable.

Another reason why you might consider investing in swtor is if you were going to invest in another mmo. 1-50 its a good experience. Pvp is alright as well expect for my own issues with it... but that's not something that is as important as enjoying a game for what it shines in, and that is a coop story that can feel like its in a massive a setting. Don't set your expectations really beyond that, and you will enjoy the game.

When you're closing in to the expiration date (and don't plan to resubscribe / keeping up the sub) then spend all your cash on inventory and bank upgrades for every character, and if you're still above 350k then buy some unlocks from the GTN (even if the greedy basterds are selling on way too high prices). Only after you did these, just then use up your 1000 CCs in the Store for the needed unlocks.

Which reminds me... get an authenticator if you can! Even if it's just the phone app.

You'll be rewarded with extra free CC for securing your account properly.

Try the game, you will enjoy it for a while and then the enjoyment goes away slowly and then you unsub and shelve the game away until you are bored and pick it again for a short while.

I do not play so called "free" games, because they are NEVER free, just sand in the eyes. But find acceptable mixed model games where I get all or close to all for sub. And Swtor for me is still along with Wow my best game ever.

Thats what I don't get about the F2P devotees. Its been proven time and again the F2Pers end up paying way more than they would with a monthly sub, yet they see the word free and something in their head just shuts off.

Seemed a perfectly reasonable question by the OP. If you go into a store I assume you check the prices  ... you cheapskate!

And if you had read the thread you will see that the OP subscribed  - but may not going forward.

Indeed the reason people may spend more in a F2P game is that they probably don't ask the type of question the OP is doing.

I did sub and I am enjoying it. Not a bad $30 or whatever.. Not sure why the rant about F2P.  I didn't pick it for that reason. I made the post to find out what I was getting into if I picked this title up. To be informed. Alittle surprised this thread was still alive. Not tempted by anything in the cartel really. Mounts are neat. There's plenty in my price range on the GTN. Saving up for my cartel crystals I guess currently. Bought the color I wanted in but being tired and played all day it was an oddball stat. Actually pretty funny. It was so cheap I jumped on it.

I have Slicing, Scavenging (Aluminium <3 ), I've made a decent bit of credits already without going out of my way. Was a little shocked at how much actually.  For the record I didn't choose it because it was F2P.  I choose it because I wanted something to play.  I'm honestly liking it and the class. Don't know if it's the  new smell or what.  Guess I will see in a month or so.

Should never spend your Cartel coins on items and such in store since they are all pretty cheap on the GTN. Cartel coins should be used on Collections to make the Cartel items you buy available for all characters or account unlocks if you don't plan on staying a sub forever.

Also a quick tip, if you get cartel items such a crystal or a cartel weapon and bind it to your char, you can get unlimited quantities  of it from the Collections window for your companions and yourself.

Consular was my least favorite class story on the republic side. I didn't think any of the class stories on the republic side were great, but my favorites were probably jedi knight and the trooper.

The class stories on the imp side are better. I'm currently playing through the bounty hunter, sith warrior, and sith inquisitor class stories and have liked all of them. I've yet to start an agent. I'll likely come back to it another time as I've been playing swtor for a long while now and am ready for a change. I've heard good things about the agent class story tho.

I don't know why the imp side class stories seem better, but they are...at least imo. This coming from someone who prefers siding with the republic.

I've leveled about 7 characters.  I replay the game a few times a year also.  I would say don't be afraid to start a lot of classes on the starter planets then stick with the one or two you like the best.  The assassin, shadow, and spy had the best story lines to me.

Ok Thank You. That's pretty helpful. I haven't really looked up legacy yet.  I haven't planned on spending my cartel on anything.  I got the adaptive armors from just logging in the first time. Imperial and Rebel. Everything is adaptive at this point. Just a matter of finding the style I want. A little bit of a bummer there. No skins tab or whatever just a unify button basically.  It is rather crazy how easy it seems to be to earn credits with nothing but gathering professions. Kind of shocked about that. Only thing I really want is a Rancor mount. I saw one yesterday and about pissed myself laughing so hard when I saw one yesterday. From what I gather not many options there.

The Rancor's pretty expensive. You'll be saving up for quite a while, or waiting for the Casino event to come around again (Which I believe will be in July or August if it's returning at all).

They said they were working on a new system called the "Outfitter", so I suspect that we'll soon get an appearance/skins tab or something of that nature. (It sure sounds like it to me at least judging by the name)

And yep! Gathering and selling crafting materials will make you some serious money very quickly. It's how I keep my alts self-sustaining as well . :)
