I gave it a try but

I have never played EQ but I gave it yesterday a try and wow I couldn't pass the first area. Dont take me wrong I am not saying the game is bad, it is just I couldn't figure out the game, the combat seems so clumsy, every time I tried to attack I got the "auto attack on, autoattack off, oi off, on off, no other skills, what? I managed to learn 2 skills following the tutorials but the combat is like awful in ways I cannot describe, because it was so confusing.

What I am doing wrong?

the combat is primarily hotkey buttons

the leveling under 10 is very fast and you will likely have 10 skills in less than 2 hours

I remember the starter area was Isle of Refuge and it took hours to just get off it...

Not anymore.. there's about 5 different starting areas you can choose from and it leads directly to a big city hub.. It's incredibly easy and pretty simple.

Combat is.. very simplistic. Hit your hotbar skills as they are available, and don't worry about the auto-attack, which happens.. automatically. After a few levels you get a heroic opportunity skill that lets you do combos, which if i recall is group based so others can activate it or complete the combos.

Crafting tutorial usually starts where you spawned first, with a harvesting followed by a quick craft and a referral to the crafting tutorial guy in the big city of your area.

At level 10 you can do the alternative advancement thing, by default it does a preset selection but you can customize it.. it took me a little research to find out how you do it properly, but it's actually easy.. click the build button and put only 1 point in the starting thingy for your class group, then save it and apply the AA, and then you can you can put your points in as you gain them.

Also you can select a racial skill in the alternative advancement window so dont forget to do that

The graphics are kind of oldschool but you get used to it.. The animation messes up between ranged and melee attack animations but the damage gets calculated anyway so it doesn't matter too much.
