i have actualy watched alot of live streams of this game lately and alot of people are playing it and seem to be managing just fine without wasd movement, alot of different games use alot of different controls systems dont be so quick to put things down, and overall the game looks fun ,
they said its point and click only? thats too bad. I dont think that will necessarily doom the game in general, but it is certainly doomed for me without WASD. I wonder why some companies keep assuming that isometric games can only be played with a mouse. They play perfectly fine with wasd. Id love it if they start offering both options in 2015.
Does Diablo 3, Torchilight1/2 and similar games.. have WASD constrols?
....stop trollin..!!
i doubt he is trolling. He isnt talking about those games. SPOILER: i dont play those games for the same reason. Played them all (including Marvel Heroes recently) and gave up on them only because of no wasd option.
EDIT: Torchlight 1, Diablo 1, and Diablo 3 are on consoles and use a gamepad. I highly doubt programming WASD movement on a PC game is any more difficult than programming gamepad controls.
Also, keep in mind that for many people its not just preference, its hand problems (carpal tunel, arthritis, etc) and too much mouse usage makes it worst.
I watched some alpha footage and realised this will be a click-to-move game, and this made me lose all interest i previously had. Top-down view alone is a big issue for me, but i could have been able to live with that. No WASD, however.. i don't know.
This may be one of those games you would want to play with a pad, but if i wanted to do that i'd buy a console. So looks like albion online will be a pass for me.
Give developers a chance to think outside the box, no WASD does not make a terrible game. Albion is not your typical MMO, it's going to be on multiple platforms: PC, browser and mobile. You don't even need $2500 worth of hardware to run it. With enough bandwidth you can play this on the subway while on the go. I'm not trying to defend Albion as a game, I'm trying to defend the devs that are creating it. Too many games that had roots to something outside the norm has been squashed by purists of the familiar. One game that comes to mind which suffered from this mob mentality is FireFall. For many of us that played FireFall Alpha and Beta before 1.0 and enjoyed it for what it was then, you know what I'm talking about. Let them make their game, if it becomes a hit then great, if not then it becomes a niche. Either way, it could be what the industry needs for something fresh.
Also, keep in mind that for many people its not just preference, its hand problems (carpal tunel, arthritis, etc) and too much mouse usage makes it worst.
OP that's just rubbish. Sure you are entitled to feel so, but there's so many different things that can make or break a game. Diversity is nice but the worst problem is in the quote above. There are millions of gamers heading towards this problem and there are many there already. It's definitely worth considering.

No I'm not trolling, I played D3 on pc and console, I love the console version and I think the movement has a lot to do with it. Albion would be nice, but I wouldn't be able to get past that annoying movement, it's 2015, at least make sure the games have wasd.
This is a cross platform game. How do you use WSAD on a tablet? I get being upset if it was just a PC game but this game is something you play on your tablet, get home jump on your PC and keep playing.

Connect a kb and mouse to the tablet or use a touch screen control like many other tablet games already do.

So gate the game to people who own tablets and willing to buy a mouse and keyboard for their tablets? WOW you know how to really cut back the number of customers to buy a game. You should go work for a gaming company and run the marketing department.

adding WASD doesnt mean removing point and click. Its just another option. Tablet has touch screen, PC can have both point and click and WASD. Or are you suggesting PC has to be dumbed down to meet tablet specs? People complain about that when PC games get console treatment for their ports, tablet is not any better. Again, just another option.

Then you upset the balance of the game and people not using Keyboards start getting upset because they lose to people circle strafing them? This is a tablet game you can play on your PC, not the other way around.

It is a top down viewpoint type of game. Having WASD movement is stupid for such a game.
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

It's a mobile game at heart... with all the limitations that go along with it.

I think there would be a lot of interest from players who primarily use pc or may be pc only for a game like this. However, it would benefit from having wasd movement not the pc platform. I actually believe it would do very well.

There isn't anything inherently wrong with WASD controls. I don't mean to say WASD constrols are impractical or anything. I believe it's ideal to use mouse clicks to control your character on Isometric/top down games. I do think allowing players to have the option to choose either would be nice. I just don't think that Albion Online will fail or is not being hyped because it's missing WASD option.

The expansion of the MMO genre into new platforms created a dilemma that, like most things, the industry failed to also expand by creating names for these new category of games, because, its easier to claim something known. The term MMORPG was kept and slapped onto things that never should have received it.
Example: Elsword never should have been called an MMORPG, it should have been called an Online Multiplayer Action RPG. Diablo 3 shouldn't have been called an MMO anything but an Online Multiplayer Action game.
Since Albion is being created with shitastic touchscreen gaming in mind, it shouldnt bare the MMO moniker in any way. The definition is being highly abused and watered down...much like the games, which are going to continually spiral downwards to become compatible to the weakest device its being made for.
Your best bet is to avoid anything being made to also work on mobile devices and support the games of quality, being made either solely for the PC or at least the PC and a console capable of handling a decent game. That's how you do it, support the things you like until game companies wake up to the fact that just because there are mobile devices that can play games, it doesn't mean they should be making games work on EVERYTHING...hell, its not like there were mobile game machines before tablets and smartphones...the industry didn't suddenly start making every game also compatible with the Game Boy when it was insanely popular so WTF is the industry thinking right now?!?
Wake them by not supporting their watered down crap games made to include mobile touchscreens.

UO had no WASD movement and was one of the best mmos ever made. Why is everyone freaking out about how you move? Just hold the right mouse button and run, then use your left hand to cast it's simple.
Also why so much hate that this is playable on a tablet?? There have been hundreds of times where I wish I could have logged into my MMO of choice and done some crafting, or other small task when I was away from my main pc. Being able to access the game on a phone or tablet away from the pc means that people with a family can still have some fun and watch a movie with the kids, or play in a cab, or long car ride. This is a good move for the MMO community, personally I am very excited about the ability to play when away.
