Borderlands MMO

It seems that they are bringing Borderlands to China... and in order to avoid theft, they are turning it into and MMO.

For those of you that don't know. The sell software as a service in china to avoid the sales of illegal copies (piracy). By turning Borderlands into an MMO, you can copy the disk (client) all you want, but you don't get the game content (it is server side). This is also what drove the F2P approach in China (i.e. client is free, pay us for stuff in game).

This is something we are seeing more of in the west, as it has the same benefits (low distribution cost, no piracy, and direct sales). Do you think this particular game would do well in the West like this?
