What, has something completely changed with Tera? When I played it had a vial community. In fact, I purchased the game on release, played a couple weeks, and the community is one of the reasons I won't go back again.

Its completely different now Amjoco. One of the friendliest communities I have seen in any game currently.  Should take a look at it again :-D

Both POE and Tera have incredible free expansions.. Take a look!

    Path of Exile: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/807869

    Tera Rising:http://tera.enmasse.com/

Both games have good communities, and fantastic development teams who listen to the communities for each game!

Again this is completely your opinion that to me sounds horribly biased.

    The poll is a joke.

Here is my list of F2P games that I play and never spent a single cent of RL cash

EQ1 Why EQ1 is not on the list.  Very restrictive, only offers level 1 and 2 mercs for free to play players.  Only allows 250 AA's  max for F2P.  Which is a primary asset of a character and customization in EQ1. You cannot go above level 65 unless you are leeching. With the new expansion and the free 90 upgrade. It is doubtful you can solo anything even close to your leel.  Let alone find a group unless you have some really good friends who have you there for chit chatting.

Never winter While you can go through all the content in Neverwinter.  It will take a extremely long time to do so.  While there are a few options to gain money for store items. That as well is tedious and takes alot of time to build up.

    PS2

Aion On my list for the full customization to a character to level 55.  Past level 55 you either buy from the store or die. Your choice!

Rift While at one point in time RIFT was a AWESOME F2P mmorpg. Its current state is not. As to be competitive in Rift does require store purchases.  So unless you have alot of time playing Rift. Back in the day when it was sub only.  I do not see how you can F2P Rift in its current state  As it will require alot of money for Plex!!  And even then, it still requires you to make store purchases!

    Age of Conan

    Defiance

    Trove

    Project Gorgon

    SWTOR

    Marvel Heroes

    ArcheAge

    World of Tanks

    War Thunder

    Firefall

Just off the top of my head ... I am sure forgetting a dozen more great F2P games

Well DMKano, it is biased.   What would you expect? It is for the best F2P MMORPG.. Not mediocre mmorpg.

You will see some excerpts of why my list is short and why some games were not added.  Also with your choices I see you did not play some of those games very long.  How do I know? Because along the way with many of those games you will meet obstacles.

The above in red are just a few examples of why the games are on the list and others are not!

You can buy a sub in EQ1 for in game gold - this removes all restrictions.

This is the case with many good f2p games - they all sell *everything* in the cash shop including subscription for in game currency.

To me this is key - get all the benefits by simply playing the game - zero $ spent.

That is true. Lots of grinding there. But then again as a F2P player in EQ you are gold capped. Imagine that! So unless someone is going to sell you a chrono at sub prices then its a no go.  Also once your sub runs out you go back to the F2P restrictions regardless of what you gained while a sub.

Also the premise of why I chose Tera and Path of Exile.  You can play either with all its content and full character customization without ever having to buy a single thing.  The difference!

I really like POE and was a backer very early on .. But its not an MMORPG .....   Great ARPG with an excellent cash shop that is friendly...tho...

TERA is an OK game , but the only good parts of it are the few dungeons and BAMS .. the rest is lacking IMO..

There are other very good F2P  MMORPGs many have already been listed and IMO many are better than the 2 the OP lists

Actually, of all the mmorpgs I mentioned. Path of Exile is probably the truest of actual free to play of them all.  As you can play the game in its entirety without ever having to pay for anything.  Makes me wonder how that game exists.  Considering its cash shop only has designer items or stash increases.  But considering you already get a large stash.  Even that is not necessary.

BTW i talk about restrictive in AION, not PoE. Just pointed out in () why i don't upvoted PoE in this thread.

BTW i alway find F2P mmo that were sub to be of better quality. Either for feeling or content, with maybe exception for archeage which i was a bit hyped. But the hack and some other minor things made it a non enjoyable game for me.

So what's wrong with Rift? I know Trion isn't the best looking with the whole AA situation but Rift isn't bad.

I love SWTOR and a distant second might be LotRO.

I play in EU Tera and I can't agree with that statement. Most people are juvenile pricks but there are some helpful people as well. I would say that it is about average for a F2P game.

However what makes F2P in TERA better than most other MMOs is that there isn't a single thing in the cash shop you really need except cosmetic items such as nice looking armors and weapons. There are exp/gold boosts but you dont really need them unless you want to race to cap.

So, you will be ugly/bland looking, but you dont need to spend a dime in TERA's cash shop to enjoy the entire game.

I tried TERA and deleted it in the same hour,it is really bad.I have not tried POE but judging by what i have seen it does not look very good either, leaving me to think there are MANY f2p games that are better.

I guess it always comes down to what you want from your game play,i have seen people state they ONLY like to raid, some are content with linear questing. My personal; design is of FFXI with excellent class/combat design towhich nothing else comes close.

I p[refer grouping however none of the current games are designed around grouping and cheap ideas like offering added xp just for being in a group is not cool in my books. You actually need group mechanics and player>player reactions.FFXI got that right nobody else has even touched on it.

As to linear questing, obviously EQ2 is miles above any other  f2p game.Grouping well as i stated there is nothing in that category.Raiding ,there all the same to me,form a large group to fight foes that are designed to ONLY be taken down by large groups because they have retarded AI like high regen, high hp usually poor AI.Crafting f2p?idk again i can't name a top dog because several games offer something cool in crafting but none are miles above the rest.

IMO if you just want an overall decent free to play game then EQ2 would be the game,it is actually identical to Wow only imo even better and people are paying to play Wow.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

    This.

Marvel Heroes is the best (for me) f2p MMORPGs. Good combat. Good setting. Good IP.  Very little issues with the cash shop.

PoE and SW:TOR I'll agree with.

I have no experience with Aion and Tera so I'll leave the comments for others on those two games.

LOTRO I wouldn't put on any list. That game shoves the cash shop in your face on every window, dialog box, etc. Open your inventory? Buy! Buy! Buy! Open your bank? Buy! Buy! Buy! Open an NPC window? Buy! Buy! Buy!

It's not even a game anymore, it's a shopping mall for the barbie dress-up crowd.

    Optional PvP = No PvP

If I wanted to play WoW, I would play Tera. Doesnt change the fact that its another generic themepark.

PoE, yes this one is good, but its not mmorpg.

I would have to agree with the OP.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

Actually STO F2P model is best, not matter of taste but because it really is very well done.

I thought it'd been criticised a huge amount lately for being P2W? I don't play the game so I don't know.

STO is more pay 2 win than Arche age. You can buy more powerful ships with money, that you can only get on the cash shop.

  • YashaXYashaX Member EpicPosts: 3,100
Tera is a great mmo, but there are definitely other f2p titles that are good. NWO, Dragons Nest, SWTOR, Rift, AA, (if you say poe is an mmo, then Vindictus), planetside 2; really there are lots of good f2p titles out there. GW2 is practically f2p and that is still probably the best mmo ever made.

which does not matter if you play like me ... solo pve. There is no p2w if you treat it as a single player game.

It is p2w. In fact this last xpack made it even more so. Free content but the new gear for the content is not free. And its bleeding players like crazy now. Players are fed up with whats going on over there.

Why do people play F2P and never pay anything? If you like the game, why not spend a few dollars and support the game? I constantly see posts from people bragging about how they never spend a cent on F2P games, but continue to play it. What's the point? How do you expect these people who make these games to survive? Whales?

True. The game would have appealed to many more people, was it not designed by a pedo, perv.

Are you kidding? Please tell me you were kidding?
