Only two F2P mmorpgs worth playing.

xpowderxxpowderx Member UncommonPosts: 2,078

Of this entire site. With its entire game list of free to play mmorpgs.  Path of Exile and Tera Rising are the only two F2P mmorpgs that are incredible games to play.  I would love for someone to tell me differently.  Please make sure to include which F2P mmorpg is better.  Also do not include any non-mmorpg game like a moba.  I already know DOTA2 is top dog of Mobas!

Both POE and Tera have incredible free expansions.. Take a look!

Path of Exile: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/807869

Tera Rising:http://tera.enmasse.com/

Both games have good communities, and fantastic development teams who listen to the communities for each game!

In my opinion I really like Marvel Heroes.

Aion and TERA get my vote for the best 2 FTP games on the market.
  • AthisarAthisar Member UncommonPosts: 666

I can't cope with Tera because of the sexualised women and little girls, and the weapons as big as tree trunks.

LOTRO has a good model, you're not forced to the cash shop for anything and you can get points on every alt on every server if you want to.

Rift had an excellent model, but it's moving away from that with its pay-only equipment slots and so on.

Star Trek Online has one of the best F2P models along with AION. It is very much worth playing.

I would definetly agree Tera and POE

  • SignexSignex Member UncommonPosts: 319

    It's easily SWTOR, high-quality MMO.

If we're talking about the F2P model here then sure, it's TERA, Aion and POE. Other than that it's your personal taste.

Actually STO F2P model is best, not matter of taste but because it really is very well done.

I thought it'd been criticised a huge amount lately for being P2W? I don't play the game so I don't know.

I voted Aion because after all it's the game i most played in the list (and i don't consider PoE to be a MMO). But the F2P is quite restrictive isn't it ?

Nah. been playing STO for long time now and i haven't spent a dime on cash shop. Anything i need i buy with dilithium. The biggest hurdles from other F2P MMOS like inventory space and gold cap can be removed with small purchase and then you play free for rest of your life.

Based on "that are incredible games to play" I assume you're talking about the games themselves and not the f2p models. And if that's the case, just an fyi, quality is subjective :) For example, in my case:

"I would love for someone to tell me differently.  Please make sure to include which F2P mmorpg is better."

that'd be a very, very long list ;) since as I wrote several times, Tera is the only game till this day (from a very long line of converted / freemium games) to which I refused to go back after the switch. That game is so [ insert a few negatives here ] that it's not worth to play it even for free.

And as for that PoS... I mean PoE, that's just an overhyped diablo-clone, and diablo (+blizz) is the root cause of the downward spiral of the genre, with this whole "action-rpg" label... no, thank you.

So yep, to you maybe those are the only two, but as I said, it's all subjective :) To me, just randomly throw a stone within the f2p room, any game you hit I'd choose over Tera or PoE. Heck, even Scarlet Blade, it's crap too, but at least funny, and that makes it already better than those two.

edit: but if you are talking about the f2p model, then as others already mentioned, Rift is better. Or even Aion, though I don't like the game, the model is cool.

Over all with the feeling of the game then it is LOTRO hands down. Saying that all F2P games will never be that great. In fact in years to come all F2P games will end up on cell phones. At least that is my opinion.

Actually, of all the mmorpgs I mentioned. Path of Exile is probably the truest of actual free to play of them all.  As you can play the game in its entirety without ever having to pay for anything.  Makes me wonder how that game exists.  Considering its cash shop only has designer items or stash increases.  But considering you already get a large stash.  Even that is not necessary.

How is it not a mmorpg?

Because then Diablo 3 would be an MMORPG. It's a top-down dungeon crawler in my opinion. Only thin massively about it is the amount of customers and by that logic every game that sells a lot of copies and can be played online would be an MMO.

Points well taken.  Then it should not be on my list.

True. The game would have appealed to many more people, was it not designed by a pedo, perv.

PoE is not an MMO, but I agree that it is the best F2P by far for those of us who dislike MOBAs.

Sorry OP, Tera would get my last place vote.  Path of the Exile is not my type of mmorpg, considering it is an aRPG. I voted for SWTOR, but had to think hard not to put LOTRO there.

    edit:sp

Tera is a good FTP because they will actually stop you from spending more than then a preset maximum amount every month : / Lockboxes are the Devil and they are in every FTP MMO. That aside, I haven't spent a dime in Aion for a very long time.

  • TalulaRoseTalulaRose Member RarePosts: 1,247

Interesting....all the games were a sub based game that went f2p or some hybrid model.

No one ever mentions games that were designed to be f2p like Perfect World.

    There really is a difference.

Should be what sub based game that went F2P is worth playing.

  • goboygogoboygo Member RarePosts: 2,141

Well to me its obvious why they aren't that bad as F2P games.  TERA was originally design as a sub game, and most of those when they transition come across okay because the very foundation of the game wasn't designed around a cash shop, it was bolted on after the fact.

And Path of the exile is really just a single player game with multiplayer support. Its like saying say Quake 3 isn't a bad F2P game.  And I don't see how you can even qualify this game as an MMORPG.  It simply has nothing in common with a traditional MMO other than you can play with some other people over a network.

Again this is completely your opinion that to me sounds horribly biased.

    The poll is a joke.

Here is my list of F2P games that I play and never spent a single cent of RL cash

EQ1 Why EQ1 is not on the list.  Very restrictive, only offers level 1 and 2 mercs for free to play players.  Only allows 250 AA's  max for F2P.  Which is a primary asset of a character and customization in EQ1. You cannot go above level 65 unless you are leeching. With the new expansion and the free 90 upgrade. It is doubtful you can solo anything even close to your level.  Let alone find a group unless you have some really good friends who have you there for chit chatting.

Never winter While you can go through all the content in Neverwinter.  It will take a extremely long time to do so.  While there are a few options to gain money for store items. That as well is tedious and takes alot of time to build up.

    PS2

Aion On my list for the full customization to a character to level 55.  Past level 55 you either buy from the store or die. Your choice!

Rift While at one point in time RIFT was a AWESOME F2P mmorpg. Its current state is not. As to be competitive in Rift does require store purchases.  So unless you have alot of time playing Rift. Back in the day when it was sub only.  I do not see how you can F2P Rift in its current state  As it will require alot of money for Plex!!  And even then, it still requires you to make store purchases!

    Age of Conan

    Defiance

    Trove

    Project Gorgon

    SWTOR

    Marvel Heroes

    ArcheAge

    World of Tanks

    War Thunder

    Firefall

Just off the top of my head ... I am sure forgetting a dozen more great F2P games

Well DMKano, it is biased.   What would you expect? It is for the best F2P MMORPG.. Not mediocre mmorpg.

You will see some excerpts of why my list is short and why some games were not added.  Also with your choices I see you did not play some of those games very long.  How do I know? Because along the way with many of those games you will meet obstacles.

The above in red are just a few examples of why the games are on the list and others are not!

What, has something completely changed with Tera? When I played it had a vial community. In fact, I purchased the game on release, played a couple weeks, and the community is one of the reasons I won't go back again.
