Trion gambled

ShortyBibleShortyBible Member UncommonPosts: 409

They butchered the game for a quick cash grab.

They are constantly loosing  money from prior sales due to

charge backs, Better Business Bureau claims etc:

They actually gambled  the companies name and reputation.

Did they win or loose?

Discuss.

This is my post i just made in another thread regarding TRION. Seems relevant here.

    -

I used to be a MASSIVE FAN of RIFT and TRION for years!

They were simply the best. The first two years of RIFT were absolutely fantastic! The customer service was #1 ( you would literally get a in game GM adressing any issue within 20 minutes or less) and the content was mostly bug free and fast and furious and it was so great you literally did not HAVE TIME to get bored!

Between massive content drops like EMBER ISLE, bringing with it INFERNAL DAWN (still its raiding epitaph imo) and great world events happening every other month it was an MMO players dream come true. The game was great, the company was great.

Then it all took a big steaming crap going F2P, destroying the game, destroying the economy and destroying the community.

    -

Hartsman is probably the biggest 2 faced lier CEO out there atm. Prior to leaving his company and RIFT going F2P he openly despised the model and stated it numerous times. THEN.. mysteriously he left. (Want to place bets he was out voted in his own company to go F2P and decided to leave)

    So he left.

And TRION continued its downward spiral into absolute crap.

Later on, after going F2P, the content drops drying up to absolutely nothing and relying on carnivals and festivals that all had the same crap as the year before, TRION came begging on its hands and knees for Scott to save it before it completely folded, and so he came back.

Being the good hand puppet he was, he spouted and towed the company line of "F2P is great!" because he obviously didn't have a choice anymore seeing as his game had already been sliced and diced and hacked to pieces and put up for sale.

    -

Nowadays, who knows. After RIFT went down the crapper of the F2P model we all left anyway and watched it burn from afar as the new toxic community of self entitled I wont pay a penny leeches moved in and the game got even worse.

I can't speak for him now, but it seems he just doesn't care anymore. Defiance is garbage, they completely shelved their MMO-RTS (can't member the name of it but it got crap canned) and along comes the true legacy of TRION, ARCHEAGE. The ultimate failure in MMO's and the worst blatent money grabbing pure F2P crap model the MMO community has ever seen.

TRION is dead, no one after the smoking pile of crap from AA is going to trust this publishser in the future, and its sad to see.

Used to be so good, now its the prime example of what NOT to be in an MMO company.

I disagree with Trion butchering Archeage. The game was already butchered with it's terrible coding, terrible execution and flat out lack of thought put into its core mechanics. This, having nothing to do with Trion and more to do with the creators of Archeage itself.

At some point, I have a feeling Trion realized the limitations of Archeage as they were in the process of pushing it towards US release. From that point on, they came to the conclusion that they better get as much money as they could from the game before people realized the faults. This created the F2P, cash shop, lies and general shady behavior exhibited by Trion.

Even I play trion game rift, from day one I was like hope they know what there getting in to for mmo that are over sea just end up a mess in western market side.

I don't see it as a cash grab as they didn't make people pay to play the game, yes it seem like a quick cash money maker if they trion and xlgame don't get there act together.

So they didn't lose or win here, what lost here is the coding, one the worst I seen so far many holes, giving most people Issues.

CHargeback mechanics are being abused by to many, its hurting companies...  and most of the time its injust.

As it is now. because everyone that bought this game knew what they where getting in the first place.

I think customer protection is a good thing, but currently its killing things because of abuse

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Yeah chargebacks are rough. I spent around $100 on Archeage, couple weeks ago I decided to quit. However, I haven't and never will charge back the game. It was my mistake giving them the money and I was drawn in from the start. Becuase things fell apart is no reason for me to run charge backs.

This...AA is a mess when still in korean market.

    I think that after

-Rift "not in Azeroth anymore" circling the drain even before StormLegion, forced to go F2P and now relying on lockbox gambling since nobody wanted to sub

    - the utter failures that were End Of Nations and Defiance in their own respective ways

-copying Cubeworld and naming it Trove

-more than one round of lay offs-

    - closing of San Diego,  since Defiance couldn't carry it's own studio

-the company probably dodging bankruptcy by a fraction of an inch

they eventually realized that making games is not their strongest department.

So why not rather publishing games of other studios? Sounds like easy and quick cash for which you neither have to do sh*t nor care in any way -and in fact AA has been just all that for Trion. Didn't work out so well with Crytek and Warface though, as Crytek likely saw the writings on the wall back then.

Can't forget the sub thing that rift have more of support for rift to keep on going, not really a sub, for lockbox blame the people keep buying them why they keep selling them.

Yeah End of nations and Defiance your right about that.

Company copy from other games all the time, minecraft being copy by Cubeword, then EQ/AC being copy from wow, then so on what ever people called a copy of wow, pretty much company end up copying each other all the time and never will stop.

Yeah if was not for rift going free to play the company would been sold off, it was f2p and rift that saved the company I am thinking as all other games was doing badly.

Yeah trion did bad move taking in AA then just keep there eye on rift, AA would of still been bad if trion took it or not, from the word from a youtuber " when a company over sea see western money they lose control then want more money".

Warface had many problem when it came out, not sure about it now, but trion was away from that can be other thing that happen only people that knew keep it zipped on both company, we will never know what happen there.

This whole mmo started of with a scam....

Founders and 10% discount in marketplace ? nah they just took it away post launch.

Reported glitches / cheats / hacks / exploits ? they ignored it from alpha to beta to live.

No warnings about economic game changes when they released the Rumbling saplings inside a delicious RNG Box that ignited the whole economy into a crash and burn.

No patch testing whatsoever when releasing any patch with Auroria being one massive disapointment not to mention the first round of sieges...

Remember that Alpha server we used to play on that should have become the Test server ? yeah they wiped it.

Exploiters won this mmo and are running around unbanned with delphinad grade weapons and armor while the legit and honest players are busting their ass off for a few coins to improve their gear while being eaten alive by these cheaters.

1 of our guildy's admitted he exploited for weeks and showed his gold / gear, our GM instandly kicked him from the guild but it was to late as most of us had enough at that point to keep working legit for gear and the fun died after the major fuckups from Trion Worlds to perma ban these people.

It could have been one hell of an mmo....
And this makes me even more sad as it seriously had tons of fun mechenics and stuff to do.
But Trion / XLGames had their focus on the cash shop instead of "patrons"

I tried to regrade my gear and failed 8 times, each try costed me 500 gold, with todays prices it would cost me 1200/1400 gold....
if you need to farm all that gold for 1 try your mentaly ill....
Unless you pull your wallet and have abit of luck with the RNG Boxes.
This for me took away the drive to gear up compared to all the cheaters who got away with it.

Never ever going to buy a product from XLGames / Trion Worlds again...

I think most people that bought this game would have stayed away from it if they knew how bad it was going to turn out.

Alpha was a lot of fun, which is part of the reason some are so mad.  This game could have been great.

I got into alpha and got friends to buy in, we all thought the game was great. The last big patch before launch was the start of things getting bad, then they got worse.

None of us are left I still have patron time on two accounts and have not logged my accounts in over a week.

No charge backs from me, but I'm glad people are, I think it is the only thing Trion cares about is how much and how fast they could make a buck on this deal.

Trion will never get another penny of mine and if anyone asks they will get my thoughts on the company, it is the least I can do for them since I feel they scammed me.

I have not played WoW in 8 years, looking forward to the second season of pvp starting tomorrow and really have only been 100 for a day now.

Trion is not responsible for the poor state of AA's coding. But it appears they don't really care about it either.

Archeage is purely a cash cow for Trion. They're running the game with the minimum possible investment, right down to not even operating a proper test server for game patches.

They've even admitted that they often don't know the full content of game patches, because "XLGames doesn't always tell them everything". However, they simply accept that and push the patch to the live servers. Actually installing the patch on a test environment and checking what it does would be "too expensive".

Trion pretends to have control or major influence over certain aspects of the game, when in practice they seem to have none at all. XLGames listens to all their suggestions, then does whatever they think will bring in the most cash for the least effort. I'm convinced that as time passes and the cash flow inevitably decreases, more and more "power" will be sold in the Cash Shop, until items (like Thunderstruck Trees) are sold outright in the CS, just as they are in the Korean version.

Essentially, XLGames doesn't really care if AA succeeds in the NA/EU market. The game was obviously not made for this market, given that it was the LAST major world region to receive a localised version of the game (2 years after the launch in Korea). Any additional cash generated by publishing the game here (with the bare minimum of changes) is a pure bonus for XLGames. It costs them virtually nothing to open this new revenue stream, and once Trion give up on publishing AA, XLGames will no doubt hand it over to some other F2P specialist who can find new ways to squeeze a few pennies out of it.

called it months ago.... hate to say, well i wont bother. Game fails in 2 other regions, there is a reason why

Thank you for your response.  I agree with you in some aspects.

    Trion = pimp

    Archeage = new ho.

Trion , work that bitch to death.

They had no care for her..  Lets get paid .

    Fuck that bitch.

That is  my interpretation of this scenario

Trion  gambled on a quick cash grab. they might have made some money.

The company has lost.  Their reputation has been shattered

Trion gambled. They gambled their  reputation, their company,

and whatever loyalty they acquired in the gaming community.

    I think they loose.

My question to you is .

    Did Trion  loose ?

Do you think that any informed MMO  player

would ever spend another dime with this company?

    They gambled their  entire company.

They might not be aware of it.

Their lost reputation, Better Business Bureau ratings,

(those are fun to read if you have time )  credit card flags etc:

Rather than launching with 1.7 (which was the good patch) They launched with the patch that broke the game and made it bad. Rather than letting us test a game more like to the Korean/Russian version, they assumed what the western market wanted.

The two foremost mistakes made. They shouldn't made any changes without first getting player feedback.  They expanded server size to compensate for the population size, but didn't adjust available land to match. Complete lack of foresight on Trion's part is what is killing the game.

  • ThorqemadaThorqemada Member UncommonPosts: 1,282

The success of Rift was mainly a PR success - i never expected Archeage to lift off substantially as they missed their "Window of Oportunity" for a future promising release date.

    Well said.

Yes I think Trion's reputation is irreparably damaged by Trion. Before I bought this game, and during American Alpha - I was ok with Trion.  Now I will not ever buy a game through them again. I do not know whether Trion was taken for a ride by XL games, or if they did know what they were approving in the cash shop.

Irregardless, If Trion did know what was going on the whole time - shame on them for being a horrible, lying publisher.

If Trion did not know all this was going to happen they were incompetent for not doing enough research and still incompetent for not addressing the issues now.

Really such a shame, the game had good potential.

Most of the NA servers are up, as of 7:56 am EST. Not sure about EU servers.

Edit: I should add, apparently some of the NA servers have heavy queue's though.

The issues with the game,  are not really Trion's fault. What is their fault is the arrogance with which they chose to publish third party games, thinking it was easy money. They really didnt know what they were getting into, and thought that it was easy.... which was proven wrong.
