Kiting?

Can mages and archers kite in this game?  Or is it mostly stationary combat?

Thanks!

    Bit of both.

If you aggro 2 or 3 mobs and only wanted one then you can dmg the one you wanted and run a bit. The ones you didnt dmg will run back but the one that recieved dmg will chase you a bit further.

When it comes to kiting you could use archerys snare or various knockbacks, some come with the skill and for other you need gear. Then while you snared or knocked them back while running you can cast spells/shoot arrows.

You don't want to kite really. Once you are engaged in combat and start to move you lose power faster than if you stayed stationary. You can snare targets and use necromancy with the skeletal archers to help you out, but kiting is just not feasible as you would consume power to quickly and wouldn't be able to do anything.

With ranged attacks, you can kite to an extent. You can walk backwards to make it take longer for the mob to reach you, and you can utilize jumping Power Words to make you jump too high to be hit. There are other features that are sort of wonky that help to let you do this, but doing real kiting by sprinting in the other direction will drain your stamina.

However, it is easy to stand somewhere where a monster cannot reach, and walk down a hill so they have to come back around to hit you. The players can walk up surfaces the mobs can't, although this is a bit of a bug.

some skillsets also let you control enemies quite well if its a 1 on 1.

for example if you combine unarmed and psych(and have a few pets because unarmed without combos is mostly a crowd control skillset), you can put an enemy to sleep long enough for your out of combat heal to trigger, terrify them, then juggle them a bit with pushbacks and stuns until you can recover again(ofcourse this is somewhat ineffective against range fighters but... its an example, aye?)

others would be more effective when you fight crowds but... i assume the reason you wanted kiting is for bosses and not the little guys.
