SWTOR, GW2, Wildstar and ESO are about as good as it gets right now for modern MMOs.

ArcheAge is out soon but the game is very generic with a few twists.

Other than that, everything else is pretty dated. Games like Aion and Tera do OK but they're showing their age big time now.

It's a pretty sad time for MMOs right now.. especially with very little high profile projects on the horizon. Sure there's games like Camelot Unchained, The Repopulation and Shroud of the Avatar but they all look severely underfunded and understaffed. Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen look OK but they're not exactly traditional MMOs.

Here's to hoping Everquest Next delivers.

Disagree 1000% about ArcheAge - very generic?

    Few twists?

ArcheAge has features that no AAA MMORPG in the west have period.

I lol'd at "Features that no AAA MMORPG in the west have"....you mean like Asian grinder style world or the fact that every male toon you try to create looks like a girl without girl parts?  Yeah, those features aren't typically desired in the West...

Have to agree with DMK on that one.

If you like to sit back and just "consume" your ingame entertainment, ArcheAge might not be your thing. But if you have some imagination and self-motivation, no currently popular game can offer you as many options as AA can. If you're allergic to PVP though, it may not be a viable option...

Such as? The main selling points of the game like open PvP, housing, farming, ship warfare and non-linear questing have all been done in some degree before. Perhaps this is the first game to bring them all together and expand on them but they're hardly unique concepts.

I'm not saying it's a horrible game, I'm sure I'll put a month or two into it. I still think it's just one notch above your average Korean grinder.

Hey to each their own I guess though, it's a marmite style of game which will probably enjoy a niché playerbase in the future. I was simply stating I don't see it making much of a splash in the market once people figure out the game is your standard run of the mill MMO with some sandbox rides thrown in.

Acctually it's true that Archeage has features that no AAA west mmorpg atm have...but you don't know much about the game besides character creation right? Do research about something and learn about next time before you post something.

You are taking it down to a SINGLE feature ???? What?

You have to look at the game as a WHOLE  - and then tell me what game has it - again Shadowbane is long gone

But then again looking at your posts and how much you hate ArcheAge - it's pointless to reason

Yes Im not a fan of AA....

I was merely replying to your words...I was letting you know that several games have had those features.  But this new argument is very weak because there are things in other games that AA doesnt have or has very poorly implemented, so what's the point?  Every game should be unique unto itself.  Unfortunately, for AA, it has a few unique things and the rest of the "things the west doesnt do" are actually things many Korean grinders have done in the past that just dont translate well to "the West".

This might sound like hogwash, but in my limited experience the games I typically stick with are the ones where I become a part of the community. Sure, the game itself does matter. it is what you build your social group around. The problem is you can have the greatest gameplay an MMO has ever provided, and if you do not have a place in it you are unlikely to stick with it.

Find out what games your friends are playing. Visit the game's forums. Poke around in a few and try to get to know some people.
