E3, LA Cantina event a letdown

ImpacthoundImpacthound Member UncommonPosts: 367

Pictures of the walker that had been datamined for weeks, pictures of furniture that's been scenery in-game for years, and not a peep about the BIG expansion so it's probably not until 2015. The only positive thing leaked was that housing would not have 'plugs' like LOTRO, but it was a pretty bad week for anyone hungry for news.

I am really disappointed at the current pace of content release and current direction the game is going. since Wildstar release number of ops being done every week been greatly reduced and it has become harder to get queue for HM 55 fp even as a tank. clearly something needs to be done to revitalize the playerbase but i don't see eaware trying anything. i am starting to feel helpless, have sub until september but can't really find the urge to login everyday just to do same dailies again and again. and the new event is nothing more than a waste of creds before housing comes, not good.

yes E3 is for new games but your list is misguided, Zenimax showed off ESO new content in E3, so did SE & FF14. check the news section of this site before giving out misinformation.

You are again giving out misinformation. EAWare did not hand out any information in E3 regarding SWTOR where ESO showed off their new end game changes with video, FF14 showed off their new class and job. and all the info those link provided by OP show us nothing new, those mounts were data mined reddit several weeks ago and those stronghold items along with the mounts were shown  in a recent video; go check out swtor youtube channel. and also those were "revealed" in cantina not on E3. STOP GIVING MISINFORMATION.

If you want regular content updates you have to play a subscription game.  F2P games spend most of their development on making fluffy bunny ears for you to buy from the shop.  It's all about money.  $2-5 for some fluffy bunny ears that takes an hour to develop or $10-20 for a DLC/content update every month which cost them a lot more.  The fluffy bunny ears are more cost efficient, which is what F2P games are all about, make as much money in as little time.

The decor isn't even new, which is disappointing that they bothered putting it on the thumbdrives for attendees; it's the same decorations and doodads that have been in game for years as static scenery.

SWTOR is a freemium game, i hope you understand what it means. and it is not that they are not giving new content it is just not what many of us want. we are saying that they could have done better; much much better. but you are right that cash shop business is far more profitable than actual content. judging by how enthusiastic swtor community are about fashion items i understand why EAWare can get away with such excessive cash shop business.

I thought it was a slightly more informative cantina tour event really , they actually answered the questions in the Q & A. I didn't see any backlash on the official forums or any pre-expectations for news on 3.0. Mind you iv'e been fighting hard to get my group on and communicating within a new MMO and learn't such things as you can't use skype on 3 cell phones etc etc. O and also gambling in the casino on Nar Shadda.

    Cheers,

    BadOrb.

I don't get the negativity here, it would seem that SWOTOR has some interesting NEW content in the very near future and the links provided help support this. I am concerned about the timeline, they've pushed housing release back, and there was no indication that the expansion was eminent, but the info and answers provided seem positive and forward thinking.

I think it boils down to SWOTOR not being given a break here, they could provide a fantastic experience, and the opinion here would be nothing but negative.

I guess the actual fans can be happy that in the least, we may find new info when reading these posts.

You have a perfectly valid opinion and I appreciate that you can see the silver lining in what's coming. I'd rather have a post like yours than a bunch of "haha yeah this game does suck I agree" posts.

Personally I think I've given SWTOR plenty of breaks, but everyone has different levels of tolerance. I wasn't utterly miserable in my time playing, but with the two 55s I've leveled I've felt BioWare isn't developing the content I want, which consciously keeps me from logging in or spending money. I keep following, looking for my silver lining, but it's just consistently cloudy for me. At least like you said, I'm getting valid info to your eyes even if we don't agree. *thumbs up*

hold on now ESO is in desperate need to show anything off.  As of May 24th almost 2 months after launch they have only sold 400k units world wide.  Even Age of Conan sold around 1 million  its first month.  Hell Warhammer Online sold 750k its first month.

As someone in anohter thread said ESO is down to 9.99 at Wallmart.

SWTOR hasn't done E3 since launch i beleive.  They don't do conventions only the community cantina

You don't want to make a game F2P as a trial experience, not an actual F2P game. In order to play SWTOR or EQ2, you have to spend money to be able to play to end game.

I will always defend LOTRO and now even ArcheAge for having a viable F2P game design because your character is not limited from playing the game as intended while never paying a dime. SWTOR and EQ2, you need to buy upgrades for your characters to use best gear, more inventory space or best abilities.

SWTOR will slowly die because their F2P prevents people from playing the game for free.

EDIT: I've given $100's to LOTRO for fluff items, because the game is good. F2P should be able to survive from fluff item sales, not by forcing people to upgrade their account in order to actually play.

and yet SWTORs populaition is MUCH larger then LotrO.    Heres the thing SWTOR does something that no other MMO out there does.  You can buy everything from the Cash shop using in game credits on the Auction House.

THAT is why its a viable model and clearly its working as it has over 1 million monthly players and made 140 million off the cash shop alone last year.  That doesn't include the around 500k subs or the money they made from selling the expansion

Clearly SWTOR IS surviing from the fluff sales hence the reason they make so much of it.    To put it in perspective 140 million is equal to haveing 700k subscribers for 1 whole year.

they were at e3 in 2012(the first e3 post launch). they had a small spot during the ea press conference where they showed a trailer for what was suppose to be coming that year which included terror from beyond op, ancient hypergate warzone, hk-51, the lvl cap increase, makeb, and playable cathar species. makeb and cathar both got delayed until well into 2013. now they weren't at e3 in 2013, and that could be for any number of reasons. e3 is typically for newer games and swtor was only about 6 months old when it went in 2012, so i dont find it all that surprising that it hasnt been back

Regardless of inaccurate metrics or lopsided opinions the truth of the matter is EA has the Star Wars license secured for the next 10 years, people will come and go, it's the MMORPG genre trend in general and the fact that their are so many Star Wars fans you can bet they may leave but will be back for the simple fact that there is no other MMORPG on the market where they can use.....a lightsaber.

Fact of the matter is no matter how hard any IP tries it can never touch the appeal that the Star Wars brand offers and that is a fact and for that reason alone you cannot compare this title to others as everything else will turn stale and generic where SWTOR will always have the lore and setting with draw like no other, all they need to add are small updates to entice their player base back and believe me they will scurry at the soonest announcement of anything new.

Btw did you hear about the new Rancor mount:

Regardless of positive or negative opinion Star Wars is an IP with almost guaranteed success and at this time EA has access to that endless pool of lore on which to draw from for the foreseeable future, the ball is in their court no matter how right or wrong it is. I don't care much for SWTOR, but there is no other Star Wars MMORPG out or coming out for at least the next ten years, see what they did there....

I wasn't surprised by the lack of anything in E3 proper, but the Cantina event that lined up with E3 was really poor from an outsider's point-of-view. Maybe they're a ton of fun if you live in a city where you can actually attend, but that hasn't been the case for me so far(Detroit). I don't expect that, either. I think it was a shame they didn't tease anything good, the Q&A was super-light, and BioWare actually forgot to load all the pictures they intended on their little giveaway flashdrives. They posted the Tattooine houses after the fact on twitter, but really unprofessional. Are they college kids forgetting to put their term papers on thumb drives?

One little snag: if you go back to when the deal was announced, EA does NOT have exclusive rights to Star Wars games as a whole, ONLY singleplayer. Disney retained the rights for online and mobile.

    http://www.theverge.com/2013/5/6/4306040/electronic-arts-gets-exclusive-deal-to-develop-star-wars-video-games

"The deal doesn't give EA complete control over all Star Wars video game titles: Disney will hold onto the rights to develop and publish titles in the "mobile, social, tablet and online game categories."

Last I checked, mmos are online, not singleplayer. Which is why Attack Squadrons had no EA label anywhere, only Disney ( wish they wouldn't have cancelled that, looked a hell of a lot better than that EAware GSF crap ).

You are right however that the Star Wars IP alone will keep the Tortanic afloat for a long while. The latest patch 2.8, which was going to be "so great" and "content filled" but once again amounted to no more than EAware once again flopping hard. But hey, at least they made a couple casino machines work though, right?!  Who needs the houses or GSF ships they promised as lure to get people to resub, right?! Who cares if they broke more systems than they fixed, right?! Lightsabres, man!!!

First the fact you use Tortanic in your little rant should make it obvious you are not one to have a mature non- bias conversation about Swtor.

Second you used quote, can you provide a link that backs up your quotes. For the record quotes are used to directly quote a source. So please link your source.

Broke more systems hmm in less then two days they all were fixed I guess if you played you would have known that hmm ?

Anyways my first point is my main point and we are all sorry Swtor is more successful and has more players then what ever game you are stuck playing.

I guess you're too blind to see the link right above the quote. I suggest glasses of the non-rose colored kind.

Edit: I also see you avoided the fact EAware couldn't manage to deliver the content they encouraged people to sign up for. Where's the housing/"galactic strongholds" (the main "draw" of 2.8 ), where's the GSF ship? Oh, that's right. "Delayed". Guess they have something to use in a few months when they need to enourage people to sign up again "We promise this time it's real!".

Again with the quotes dude please post a link that the said "so great" "2.8 will be content filled" the main "draw" "we promise this time it's real" .  Again the use of quotes is to actually quote somebody not make up your own idea of what was said.  Now stop using quotes unless you have the actual link to back them up.

As as for the delay people like you who clearly don't even play the game would cry a and whine if they released on time and not perfect, so when they announced a delay people like you cry and whine about that too .  Dude you don't like the game that's great go find something you do enjoy and stop using quotes without references.  The above link didn't have your "quotes " in it or any of your new made up quotes...it's ok buddy whatever game you play will be fine.  It's not healthy to hate on a video game make up quotes and get all worked up over a video game you don't even play.

You were dropped on your head as a baby, weren't you?

Every advertisement for 2.8 had "Galactic Strongholds" as it's centerpiece. Google is your friend ( or maybe you need a friend to help you use Google?).

You know what, let's do it the easy way.

Name what was supposed to be in patch 2.8 that is actually in the game now after the release of patch 2.8.

By the way, quotation marks also work for paraphrasing and adding emphasis. They're not just for quoting. But I'm sure you never got far enough into English class to figure that out.

    We'll wait.

Oh too funny so not only do you get all worked up over a VIDEO GAME you don't play .  But when you get called out and asked for references to your quotes you go with personal attacks...very mature champ.

So along with not being able to have a mature non-bias conversation with someone  who uses terms like "Tortanic " and "crap" ( those are direct quotes from you see above) but now when called out you resort to personal attacks.

    Keep it classy champ!

Btw  swtor will not be the last video game to ever delay content or the first to do it....you new to video games?

I like how you have 2 stars with 8 posts, and it's from nesting garbage responses in this thread. Are you an alt account for coorsguys? Do PMs with posters you don't like instead of trashing up threads with multiquoting, or at the very least clean your posts up a little.
