I think this mmo may not be friendly only to SOLO players, not to pve ones. But even the anti-social people that dislike grouping/socializing can find some niche in the game world to explore (a example i can imagine now: plant/farm and sell the products to others by gold, then buying from others the delphi coins).

If all the safe zone land gets snapped up by people who are power leveled by their guilds and then protected while they do the large farm quest, there will be nothing left for solo players or even small guilds except in PvP zones.

But it's worth keeping an eye on this game and jumping in for free after launch in case a new server opens up or people quit and stop paying upkeep.

I thought this game would let you just murderface someone and take their farm, problem solved.

Nope, sorry, but it seems in most areas you can grief farmers until they get fed up, unsub, and lose their land.  Then you can take over their plot.

    Fun fun.  But not really.

Welcome to why ultimately sandboxes will falter in most settings. People claim the close areas, forcing those who want land further and further away. It becomes harder and harder for people to become established themselves having to build out in the bondocks to get anywhere. The only hope tends to be when systems are in place to remove people's plots who haven't played in some time, which ultimately sucks for those people if they want to come back.

Games like SWG had this problem partly allieviated having large planets... but that just also brought up the issue that planets were for the most part just big empty plots of land with nothing to them at all, which hurts the game as well. Still a decent solution but one that requires a certain premise of alternate worlds with not much in them to pull off.

I appreciate OP and others like OP who come to forums to describe their negative experiences with MMO alphas and betas.  They have saved me a lot of money over the years.  Thank you, OP.

From what I hear they're leaving the Alpha server as a test server. So who cares. Jump into a fresh server during early access when it "officially" launches and get your land plots when it really counts. Then farm away. I actually like wild farming. Finding a small patch hidden high up in some tree cover...or in some other niche somewhere and spot farm. Sure it gets stolen sometimes but that's a bit of a gaming thrill to me.  Sometimes I even hide out and spot the thief then report his crime in detail.

I just paid the $150 last week and I do not regret it. The game is a blast. I like ESO and thought I'd be playing that but i haven't logged in since I started ArcheAge. The only complaints so far are minor ..including some stiff animations here and there and no body customization as of yet. Face customization is pretty good though

Wouldn't it be good for the game if so many really bought the founder pack?

But anyways, anyone worried could just wait until launch.Unless they overcrowd the servers that will solve it.

I don't know actually as if it's hard when there's such a steep price of entry, how would it get any better when there's no real gate at entry?

False information is being presented by several people on the forum here about how things actually work in the game. I am not clear as to the point of it to be honest.

There is more land area to settle than has been shown in alpha.

There is only 1 server at this time so it's crowded.

When the game goes live, only subscribers can own property from what I have read.

There will be water based stilt housing with aqua farms as well.

You can also make farms in other parts that are unprotected and pretty much plant something to grow almost anywhere in the open lands.

There will be people that want to move from original locations and will let the plot expire. which will free up old locations and there is an active timer for when the land goes free to claim.

After 2 houses the fee ramps up alot for a single account. (Not sure how they are handling duplicate accounts but it's more $$ subscriptions so maybe no penalty except the RL money required to have multiple subscriptions going.

There are 3 continents people can put down a house.

You can't get killed inside your house and many people will probably build a crafting station within a house for safe crafting even in pvp areas.

There really will be a benefit to starting out the game with friends and saving to get house plots laid down early. Then group cooperation can get your building materials for the houses and have house raising days. Once you and your friends have a house and farm in a safe area the more heavy crafting can start. This will open avenues to all sorts of interests.

Solo players will be at a slower pace. This is the only instance where I could see possibly struggling for a few days to locate a plot, but eventually you will find one as well.

I do not see any point in getting into Alpha personally since Beta should be enough time to learn a bit of the fundamentals hands on. There are more than enough live feeds via twitch and youtubes about this game to understand many aspects of what to expect.......and it all looks fun. Also I like the 4 day headstart and the extra bonuses beta access offers, so for me that will be worth the $$. Each to his own though. I am sure there will be many free to play people and I welcome them. Chances are I will outgear them with quality crafted gears, outlevel them with early access, and outplay them since I will have better knowledge of my player skills and abilities compared to them due to the extra start time. So maybe all people won't have the same quality gameplay since there may be a small advantage to subscribers. I actually like that though as I think it's maybe the way mmorpgs should be in the end.

No alpha access for any MMO should go for $150.

No matter how many shinys they throw you way somewhere down the line.

People dumb enough to fork over $150 for access to a F2P game deserve to get shafted.

I guess people have more money than sense these days.

There are two types of farms, land and underwater. They both provide for growing different types of things needed in the game.

In this game there is a deep crafting system.

You can do everything related to every style of crafting and basically level up your crafting abilities in all crafting skills.

Eventually you will have to choose to narrow down the focus of the skills you will be best at. The focus pattern looks similar to a pyramid with the best 2 skills being the top of the pyramid as far as expert levels.

A great number of things you will want to do in the game will require you to make something.

The following are greatly simplified so don't take it as a recipe :)

Want to make a boat? Get some seeds for tall trees and plant them. Once they have matured, cut them down and make boards out of them at a crafting table.

Want to go fishing? Get seeds to plant a tree for a fishing rod, then plant some plants that attract worms for bait, then plant cotton for the fishing line.

You can also raise animals that provide crafting materials as well.

The amount of things you can do in the game because of this crafting system is huge.

It's all interconnected in a deep system that takes time to learn. But it also affords you the freedom in the game that it not available in many of today's top MMORPG's.

why are people hung up on 2 facts

1 - We are or have not paid £110 for alpha access, We have paid £110 for the pack, which as a bonus has immediate alpha access, unless your a cheap **** and intend playing a f2p game all your life then chances are you have subbed to a game before, generally when you pay for more months in advance you get it cheaper. This is all thats happened here, we  have bought something in advance that offers bonuses  the fact that alpha is one is meh, but how about the 4 day headstart, given how this post originated and lack of space, do you not think for those of us who plan to play it long term will greatly benefit from getting in game 4 days early and grabbing some prime real estate.... so to me thats not a bad price to pay (which leads me onto part 2)

2 - I have a job that pays ok, i can do 2 hours overtime and bang thats this game paid for, so convert that to 2 hours of your respective jobs and then tell me for the hours of game-play i get from it that its not worthwhile, besides i have a wife who can tell me what is good/bad thing to spend money on, and trust me this game aint bad :)

Finally, i can give 44million reasons why this is better than another game that i am a known disliker of, that at least for this im paying for game i can play now, and not some pretty pictures of a game I MIGHT be able to play some time next decade.... so again i ask you why are you so hung up over my money and my reasons.

This post is all my opinion, but I welcome debate on anything i have put, however, personal slander / name calling belongs in game where of course you're welcome to call me names im often found lounging about in EvE online.

why is it that none ever mention the temp farms.  I think they give you a farming plot for 7 days.  I have used these a few times as I could not find a farm  I have used these several times.  There is only one server available for Alpha so clearly the farm plots will open up once more servers open on release

wow that sounds pretty cool, guess i need to look into this game a little more. i kind of saw it was a typical quest hub game and brushed it aside, but a in dept crafting system along with pvp might be worth it.

Maybe in your self serving, over simplistic view.  This game has been live in Korea for 2+ years.  So it's not an "alpha"in the true sense.  It's stable, well established and quite fun.  It's only alpha because some of the voice translations haven't been completed.  So it's much more than just "alpha" for $150.00. With the $150.00 the buyer receives numerous incentive items, 90 days of subscriber time, aka "patron status" and more.

And for those of you that say, "Oh you saved me money."  Seriously you can chillax with the cognitive dissonance.  As an eclectic MMO player I can say this is a very good MMO.   Its mechanics, variety, and world is superb.  Its a very well thought out MMO.

    + I may play AA +

But $150 for alpha is ridiculous......This shows greed, not the normal greed because you can expect a company to make money but a new type of greed !!!......This leaves a bad taste already, it shows their marketing abalities at trickery and taking advantage.

The game is already made and has been out for two years. They expect people to pay for translation and development of the F2P cash grab ?.......This was always done in the backround before an mmo was ever announced, now people pay $150.

    + I may not play AA +

Isn't this nothing more than Tera engine with different toons? Mechanics look the same. I don't see myself ever wanting to play this game, especially given where its at and the cost of getting involved.

I joined a few days ago and got a slot in the starter zones.  Just checked out a few scarecrows demolition date and times til I found one happening the next day. Set my alarm to 2:30am, got a farm and went back to sleep.

This game has absolutely nothing to do with TERA...It's not the same mechanics, it's not real time/action combat like TERA; plus graphically it's not even the same kind of design (ArcheAge is more realistic, a bit like GW2/TESO)...they are completely different MMO's (outside the fact they are both made by Koreans)...it's like saying Elders Scrolls Online is nothing more than "World of Warcraft engine with different toons" LOL

Nah..we all  just have a certain degree of free will.

I have plenty of sense and I also happen to have $150 to treat myself. So I did. So did many others. It's a fun game so i don't regret it...and when it launches I'll get most of that money back in the form of 3 months sub and a butt load of their virtual currency. I know the virtual coin is hard to assign any true value...but I'll enjoy spending it none-the-less and therefore it has real value to me. Now..the game is really enjoyable imo. As far as it being in alpha ..well we all should know that's not really true. Apart from the untranslated cinematics and the NPC voices it seems pretty well done to me (the text for the quests is in english just not the audio) . Since it is going to be "F2P"  I hope you'll give it a try when it launches.

..to each their own i suppose.

People who don't have any idea what they are talking about should really do more research. I keep hearing $150 for Alpha $150 for alpha ..its not . How many of you buy a Collectors edition of a game or have ? The FACT is if you are going to commit to this game you ARE getting what you pay for $75 cash shop coin $45 in sub/patron status and yes a bunch of shinies that you will have at level 1. If you believe as a F2P player you will get anywhere in this game you are fooling yourself.

To the OP put your Characters name here and I will bring you to a dozen areas that you can put a Large farm down.

Join a guild, build a ship and get out of the rowboat . May the Kraken never smell you coming. Stealth nuff said.
