I played this game for over half a year and loved every minute of it until lately. DFUW had it all: an open world, always at risk of pvp, epic sieges and the combat system was exactly what I was looking for. Sure, the game had lots of problems and population wise it's a niche title but I still liked it more then any other title.
Sadly enough I was forced to stop playing it recently. I lost my personal reserves to an spy from an enemy clan and tried to find a non mind numbing boring farming replacement for the (ever since they have been nerfed to crap) useless semi afk farming activities scrapping and gathering. What followed were some weeks of boredom spent at pve spots without meeting a single player. Followed by weekends were I lost the week of farming when getting zerged or sometimes also being outplayed by decent players - or by wins that usually gave me incomplete low dura sets which were only good for salvaging.
I tried that for some weeks, since DFUW burned all other MMORGs for me and there's nothing else that looks anywhere interesting. But I can't motivate myself to grind most of my playtime on a lonely pve spot on beyond being retarded mobs. I preferred the old DFUW where you scrapped and gathered a bit aside of work or while watching a movie then spent your active play time with PVP focussed activities.
The game still is great for people with a full warehouse, hardcore players, fans of easy lonely pve or casuals with exceptionally skills. A pity I am not one of those. If you are, check this game out. It's really worth it. All the changes are being made to make the game more enjoyable for you guys.

Are you in a clan or playing Solo ?
I guess lots more people will be coming back soon with the changes they are bringing in I know a lot of old DF will prob at least try it again.
Look bud I don't like seeing people quit the game and it sucks to get all your stuff stolen, but why? why? would you store ALL your most valuable items in the clan bank? Especially if you are in a clan that has either too many people with bank access or too trusting by giving unkowns bank access. Spies and the resulting bank heists are a core part of Darkfall history and gameplay and you must protect yourself as well as possible at all times. This means DO NOT KEEP WHAT YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO LOSE IN THE CLAN BANK. If it wasn't the clan bank and you gave someone your account info and got wiped out, then you get no sympathy from me whatsoever and deserve it.
Also, it is very unbecoming to whine about how "hard" and "difficult" it will be to replace your loot, makes me think you didn't earn it in the first place (duped) or was given too many freebies. Harvesting iron or skinning scumlings for leather are both activities you could do in absolute safety, afk / semi afk and both those resources sell for a ridiculous amount of money on weekends at the auction house. Hell you could even go to L4 / 5 zones and just naked harvest semi afk a few nodes then bank for the rares, yeah you might die a few times, but who cares tools are dirt cheap and your doing this mostly afk anyways. Otherwise, you might have to actually you know go actively play the game outside the safe zone to farm.
TLDR: Bank heists are part of Darkfall!
@Caldrin: I was in a clan until I stopped playing. They supported me but I don't enjoy being a leech, so tried to find a non boring way to regain the lost stuff myself. And failed with that.
@Holophonist: I paid my both accounts half a year ahead before they changed the direction in which dfuw is going, so will keep checking for updates. Not like there's any other interessting game out there.
@12344andson: I lost my reserves when having an isp disconnect me while transfering my stuff from my main account to my alt account which i wanted to play on from then. It was early morning and I was in clan town. I thought it was np to take the risk since it's kind of impossible to kill a geared warrior fast enough before it puts a bag into bank. Surprise, surprise. The only guy online on TS at that time said he wasn't near so couldn't protect me but that later proved to be the excuse of a spy that tooks the chance. Shit happens. A big deal? Not really.
As for the rest of your posting, I suggest you look up the difference in between the terms "hard" and "boring" and maybe ask some DFUW player about scrapping and gathering in the pre nerf times. Your assumption that you needed to dupe to self support sound like you didn't play the game in those months. Your DZ4/5 gathering advice also sounds like you didn't try it after the essence nerfs, the rates are horrible now. Are you sure you are really playing DFUW?
Edit: I tested the new economy patch and it made things a lot worse. If I don't actively pve grind and craft for at least 3-4 hours every day without dying and loosing gear once I won't have any equipment for the weekend sieges. A pity that this game has been transformed into a full time pve grinding job. No way I can play the 25-35 hours a week that DFUW developers require me now to.
