For the record: Those statistics are from several months ago. How I know? They list "Freedom" as biggest EU clan with place nr. 4 while the clan had 10-20 active players in the last months while they over had 100 before that.

these statistics are not valid @ all..
knowning av they will simply retreive the data from the server when the whole clans on that server has 80% inactive chars in their clans..
there are no systems in place on the server concerning inactive accounts/players
Darkfall is a ghost town when they made this abomination called unholy wars
Almost none of the biggest clans of the original version are playing this game
This game is a paradox - they have this big open world, which implies freedom, but all activities converge on group PvP and nothing else. Severe punishments for solo exploration etc - which is highly unusual.
I reckon that most of the player numbers in the statistics come from a narrow time period 1 year ago when people were trying the game at launch. I imagine the fall off of players has been quite significant.

That pretty much sums it up, though its not very paradoxical. You simply can't have a game that is JUST pvp and expect it to do well. Exploration (ie. pve) needs to be more meaningful (progression based), and it should provide players with something else to fight over than just territory. The best memories I have of MMO pvp were fighting over dungeons and monsters that yielded powerful items or resources. Looking over the 30 or some odd MMOs I've played in the last 15 years, I've come to the conclusion that a game must be fun (and competitive) WITHOUT pvp, for it to be fun with it. Case in point, Darkfall with its glorious world and long list of features still couldn't be further from this, thus no one wants to play it.
Darkfall was made by people with a one track mind and its taking them ages to figure out why their game is unappealing to most players. This coming from someone that followed Darkfall since like 2003 and had high hopes for it until it actually launched.
