This "SWTOR is second" without ANY backing up (instead constant silence from EA) is getting old.
Let me let you in on a little secret: EA boasts with successful games, they dont try to shrug them under the rug.
they're a public company. Their reports have been posted here a billion times. You and others never having taken the time to look doesn't mean they didn't make them available.
Originally posted by cheyane That report in no way shows you subscriber numbers because GW 2 is B2P and did you forget to remove the cost of buying the box.
Why the hell would you want to compare subscribers in a game with 0 subscribers?
The ONLY measurment you can do is how much money it makes. Because in the end its only thing that matters, it means it will not fire 2/3 of their staff, remove 9/10 of the servers and will continue as planned cutting No.1. feature from development and will be able to fix problems, unlike some games *hint hint*
Well it's pretty simple, you can't say it equates to a game with X amount of subscribers, without also including the amount of box sales a game with X amount of subscribers has as well.
It would be like saying burger king makes as much revenue on their burgers as mcdonalds makes on the lettuce they use on their burgers.

Why would you remove the cost of buying the box?
It's a complete nonsence. That's what the B2P model is about... They make estimations on box sales + cash shop revenues...
If you want to talk subscribers then remove the cash shop revenue from SWTOR and then calculate the numbers. But that's another nonsence as well because that's what makes the game make money, it's model.
So if you want to compare how well is one game doing in comparison to another you have to take everything into consideration not just the things you want to make it swing your way.

Give me a credible source about SWTOR making even as much money a GW2.
Give me some credible source about the many Western MMORPGs making as much money than GW2.
Give me some credible source about the many Western MMORPGs with actually over or close to 500k subs. Even 500k subs worth is ok.
I guess I can only expect excuse why you can't provide me any while eager to proclaim and use these things in "arguments" like a fact.

who do you think pays the $1000+ fee to get access to their reports ? They've been doing it for years...is it magic paying for all that work to be done ?
Oh noes it dropped from the XMAS quarter to the First Quarter.
$24.5M pretty respectable.
It also dropped to a much lower point than it was at in 1q last year... not a good sign at all... at this rate it will be at an all time low next quarter...
1st quarter last year had the game releasing in a new region so had a sales spike.
24.5 million places it at a pace of 100 million for the year.
That's equal to having 555,555 people subscribing for 12 months at $15 a month. That's damn good for a game with no subscription options and places it far above some of the best MMOs in history, UO, EQ1, DaoC, SWG...none had that many subscribers at one time.
This comparison you are making in regards to older games isn't valid. Comparing profit from two different time periods isn't such a simple equation. First off those sales you are using for GW are including the box price but you aren't including the box price of those other games in your comparison. Secondly you aren't adjusting for inflation. So let's come up with some real numbers.
Even if we don't include the box price of the older games but do include the box prices in GW sales. Then you end up with a required subscriber number of 388,733 for EQ to match the same sales after you adjust for 11 years of inflation. If you do include the box price of the aforementioned games you come up with a required subscriber number of 297,500. While inflation data isn't completely definitive, it is empirical. If you look back 11 years (mentioned above) that would bring you to 2003, which is the year that EQ posted its record subscribers at 450,000+.
Just to question the philosophy. Army of Socrates.

All those execs of failed games? Seems so rofl
But you actually fail in comprehending WHO exactly wants those numbers and for what, and, internet is full of various "analysts". Those numbers are as valid as any other internet speculation. You think EA buys its own numbers rofl
Unless you have official EA numbers its nonsense. Its that simple.
that would be because I didn't say that. mad mad desperation.
The revenue amounts to the amount of subs I listed, plain and simple and its an amount most companies would jump at with a game with no subscription options.
Which companies are those? That's only revenue we are talking about, not even profit... There are a ton of nonsub games on the net making a lot more than gw2 is...
mad mad desperation......
1000000000000000000000000000 companies can be making more money, it doesn't mean a thing. The number is HIGH.
Profit doesn't matter, the revenue is high and thus the profit will be high.
I think you just made it plainly evident how well you understand business.... You might have some insane revenue... but if your operating cost is also high your profit may not be high.
Says the person that thinks 100million a year is a low number for a game already released and low operational costs and also loves to believe what EA says about SWTOR revenue even though they combine it with other games to hide the numbers.
BTW, EVE has around 500k subscribers placing it around GW2s revenue. Doh!
So 25,142 million is how much is that in US dollar ? Is that in Korean million the figure I mean. It says KRW in MN does it mean KRW in US million or it means that figure is 25,142 million KRW ?
Originally posted by cheyane Yes exactly number 3 after SWTOR.
I was going to say 4 behind FFXIV. Sure the company is based in Japan, but the majority of subscribers are based in the na/eu market and unlike Korean games the only difference between what we're playing and what they're playing is server location.

As I can see it they made 405 million $ in 12 months only from subscriptions (which include SWTOR, BF premium, EA sports season tickets and pogo.com). Now I just glanced trough the numbers, but I can't find anything there which shows revenue for each title.

100million in revenue is not high annually for an MMORPG in today's world... Also where is your evidence that they have low operating costs?

Do you have Eve's sales totals for 1st quarter? No. Looks like yet again you have produced an argument that holds no water and cant stand up to the smallest refute. And your ending comment is laughable, where is your proof they have a high operating cost?
NCSOFT also covers a lot of games not just guild wars 2.
Some of the detailed reports show they took a huge hit in sales for Lineage 2.
lineage 1 and does anyone know whay they mean by "temporarily dropped with in game item sales being scaled back". did they change the payment model or something?

Ways to make more money by giving more?
1.) Optional Premium Subscription with benefits, (Not pay 2 win.) but things like (Free Teleports) (Free Repair) and so on.
2.) Allowing players to do more crafts on a single character option to buy more without having to switch (cash shop item).
3.) Cash Shop Option (Craft Directly From Bank) no need to carry materials on yourself.
Not sure if any of this has changed but it would get A-Net more income, I mean the last update was pretty nice.

You can't expect B2P games to get in as much after 2 years as at launch without an expansion.... It is still a pretty impressive number.
The China launch will bring in some dough but it still tells us it is time for an expansion soon.
