Tired of Boss Camping Bots ? Here is how you defeat them...

spizzspizz Member UncommonPosts: 1,971

Some days ago I was quiete angry about some bots camping a boss and I could not get the kill since they were just too fast.

They were mostly low lvl bots (lvl 3-4) in a lvl 8+ dungeon.

What we did was the following:

We pulled as many mobs as possible and achieved that at least 2 of the lower lvl bots actually did die. But this is not the solution since in most cases the bots are at the proper level and dont die in a group.

Therefore someone did find out another strategy how to defeat BOTs :

Copy & Paste from another forum - By the way some did create even Guilds only with the aim to hunt bots i.e. Botbuster Guild.

<div may-blank-within"="">

So last night, after about 20 minutes of trial and error, we discovered there is a way to seriously mess with the bots that camp in the public dungeons, and all you need is is at least two DragonKnights that have Chains abilities.

The bots appear to be programmed to automatically home in on the boss' coordinates when they enter a dungeon, but are "smart" programmed that they will follow the boss around if the boss moves, so that they can continue to attack and loot the bosses even if the boss follows players around. After a boss is dead, the bots default to the boss spawn point so they can attack it again when it respawns... normally.

What we discovered through trial and error is that if you can get the boss to move far enough away from the spawn point with the bots in tow, the bots get stuck and don't know how to return to the spawn point. We started using the DK's Chain ability (if you haven't seen it, allows you to harpoon an enemy and drag them towards you) to move the bosses around.

A single chain was not usually long enough to move the boss enough to confuse the bots, so we started teaming up with chains of multiple DKs in a row (DK Alpha drags the boss from the spawn point to his location, Beta drags the boss further away, Gamma drags the boss even further away) to move the bosses around corners, behind crates, or anything that could lead the bots to a point where they get stuck.

In our experience, it took 2-3 DKs to get the boss and the bots far enough away from the spawn point for the effect to kick in, but once it did it was clear that the bots had no idea what they were doing. Spawn points were blissfully clear of non-human campers, while there were a pile of bots in the corner hopping over and over again walking blindly towards nothing. It was glorious.

I'm sure the bot programmers will eventually overcome this, but for now... I say it's time to exact some revenge. What say you, sirs and madams?

I hope that ESO GMs are copying the mechanisms. It's sometimes hard to tell the difference between a bot and a real human, but not if you can get the bot stuck doing something a human would never do. Then they could just permaban them all.

I had the original formatting for this up because the thread was missing a ton and formatted weird. Not it looks fine... wasted post lol.....

As much as I loathe the bots in-game, there are now griefers that are using these tactics to make it nigh-on impossible for 'regular' players like myself to hit the bosses.

    What say I?

I say these people are worse than the bots because they're actively setting out to disrupt the gameplay of others.

After paying 60 dollars and another 15 per month, that's not my responsibility. They better do THEIR JOB or they can kiss my ass and my money goodbye.

It's an absolute shame that players have to dedicate their time (and money to an extent) to create bothunter guilds and pull curious stunts on bosses, since Zenimax can't manage to have two GMs checking the hot spots and suspend botting accounts with a few clicks.

If they would do that for 10 days, the game would be about bot-free and every company discouraged to just set up new bots.

I do not get how in 2014 a company can release a game and not expect or be prepared for bots taking over at once. I bet the GMs don't even have the tools to deal with a bot.

The bots are annoying but not once in the many caves I have cleared have they been able to prevent me from getting credit or loot from the bosses. I stand where the boss spawns, attack it and that's that.

Pretty easy to spot...The bots are still in "prison" garb

I dont see how thats possible? As they say it only takes a few times to glitch out the bots so they get stuck and the boss spawn location is free and clear.

That is, unless youre saying its glitching you too?

I think what Darwa means is its annoying to have to chase the constantly chain yanked mob across the room trying to land a hit before it gets yanked away again.

There are DKs who just sit there just out of aggro range waiting for someone to run up to a mob and just as they begin their attack animation its *YOINK!* DK yanks the mob away....

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

Being in a prison garb or having completely ridiculous name might indicate that the person is a bot, but it's something a human could do.

Being unable to navigate behind a corner is something a human would never do.

I think ESO should have mechanics in place that detect BOTs... and when they detect botting, they need to send a patroll of elite mobs to kill off the bots ingame..   Normall players will run when they see these, bots will just get slaughtered...time after time...

Its not that hard to code a mechnic to detect bosscamping,

On top of that, Bosses loot has diminishing returns and after like 5 attempts, you get nothing but silly white stuff, so they must not be camping these for the loots, but just for the XP

They could also complicate these camping bot tools, by giving bosses more random spawnpoints...  Which would also add much more depth to these dungeons... Static spawnpoints is so EQ...

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Actually AoC had something like that for resource gathering to deter bots. Sometimes when you were mining or chopping wood mobs would spawn and attack you.

Downside of course was that it annoyed people legitimately farming stuff.

I tried that does not help sure they die but i have seen them teleport hack right back instantly now i am seeing bots on a massive scale doing quests they teleport hack form one objective to another and i also have seen plane clipping through walls and buildings and flying bots.

Sure you could report them but that does not stop them all they do is fire up a keygen and punch in another code without spending a dollar.

What can zenimax do to fix the problem well first they need to change the key system verify every key with purchase

for example person buy digital edition during the purchase the key is recorded  and sent to customer during the activation of the account the key is verified with purchase order if they do not match account is not activated.

Remove all client side movement and put it server side that way teleport hacks and speed hacks would be a thing of the past.

Public dungeon bots that camp bosses simple fix remove soul stones that is what they are after and make them spawn randomly in different locations around the area.

Just standing there in 20 mins i had seen 200 bots with 3 letter names 8 char long doing quests popping in and out or flying through the building into the sky at super speeds.

Best way is just to report the bots and they'll be gone in a matter of a day or two. How to report a group of bots? Wimply use FRAPS (or whatever recording software you use), record 2 or 3 boss kills by the group, while in the mean time you 'mouse over' all the 'players' there who participate. Make it an off-line support ticket with the link to the recorded movie and Zenimax will ban those bots (hopefully)

I hate bots and the bastards who use them. That is all.

Seriously...ruining the experience of other people to monetize a game that you had no part in creating...it reeks of ego, entitlement, and a sense of impunity.

My they all be banned and burn in internet hell.

But why should players, already paying to play a game, use their time and resources to do something that Zenimax should be handling on their own?

Because an MMO's health and well-being is a community effort. Both the players and the developers work together to make an ideal MMO environment.

The developers can provide tools to make reporting easier, but ultimately reports from the ESO players are going to be what helps remove the bots.

Reporting people is not a problem at all, scammers are an inventive bunch and you have to keep the company informed of their antics. But dragging mobs around and jumping through hoops is ridiculous, at that point the company should be paying me to do their job.

Bosses in open dungeons have loot ? Because I can't remember the last time I got anything from a boss. Ok, I don't get more than one hit on a boss because then he is usually already dead. They are more or less all camped by 10+ bots usually even higher level than zone level.

I am glad I get the update for the zone. Loot ? Not seen, my damage is probably to low. Need to come back as lvl 50 and test it then but why.... Why are the bots even there ? Is xp so good ? Do they get loot because they do more damage ?

Anyway, I hate bots, may they all burn in hell. Sometimes I wish I were a GM I would kill bots all day long. ;)
