So I bought FF14 back when it first game out. 3+ years ago. Wasnt happy with it and stayed playing wow. I heard they were doing a reboot for the game and played in the beta but really wasnt looking for a new game and was a little overwhelmed at the time. So I have some questions about the game before I jump into it if I decide to play again.

1. I heard I dont have to buy the game if I already purchased the original back when. Im on my account and it says standard (win) underneath that it says inactive. That just means my account is inactive but I have the game correct?

2. I mostly enjoy PVE. Grouping up with people and destroying whatever it is that gets in our way. How is the dungeons, raiding, and end content for PVE?

3. When I played in the beta I felt like the game felt slow, is that how it always is? It seemed like you used an ability and waited and then do it again.

4. How is the story? This is always my favorite part of the game and the reason why I love going back and playing older games because they were so iconic. I like how in MMOs though you get to continue your story past the end credits with expansions and the ability to play with other players.

5. What all is there to do once you hit max? This is essentially where 99% of the game happens so why am I coming back to play everyday and happy to do so?

6. What do you recommend doing in the game? What do you enjoy doing in the game and what makes you happy to play it? Similar to 5 but more personal.

7. What are things you are disappointed about the game? Looking for things that might turn me off of the game myself or things that dont bother me which tells me if thats the worse that I will be happy to accept.

Edit: Added more questions

8. How alive are servers? Is there always people looking for groups and to do stuff? One reason I enjoyed wow for so long is that  its so easy to just log on and go do something.

9. Addons? I enjoy addons for some reason. Just those little things that help you in game to save you a few minutes which shows a dedicated playerbase to request and create them is a good sign of a healthy game, at least in my eyes.

It's a good game. Just go and try it.

    Or don't.

You don't need to buy it again.

Ya but I dont like wasting my time and I know until you get further into games that you dont have a clear analysis of a game. So instead I like taking about an hour figuring out if I should play a game a seeing how different people feel about the game and understand how the game plays out instead of me throwing $15 plus countless hours. For the most part I trust gamers judgments and very rarely steer me wrong after I analyse everything.

Game is great fun and there is so much to do! It doesn't really open up until level 15 though, and the road to get there can be long and tiresome. If you are willing to push through to level 20 with your first class (Game is built on a multi class system), then you will start to get into the things that really makes the game different and fun.

So after all this analysis and pondering back-and-forth and the QA sessions revolving around the potential candidate for your precious time that could be better spent in WoW, you can finally decide to take the leap into the dark unknown and not play WoW and play something else for a change?

Some of you MMO folks are something else entirely...

Good luck, man. Hopefully you don't waste your time like I did reading the thread and making this post.

What are you talking about? I asked questions and no one has answered any of them really. I want to know the ins and out so the game before I get into it. Is that a problem? Do you just buy a game with only reading the name of the box? Or do you do some research first? What is wrong with doing my own research?

You obviously didnt read the thread or you would see im asking about this game not should I play yes or no.  I will get my own feel of the game by how people answer. You are obviously some fan boy who thinks I attacked your game by how you try and insult a game im not playing and couldnt even read anything I posted.

    1. I believe you don't have to repurchase, try Square-enix for the full answer.

    2. I don't know about "end content" I am playing with my wife and not rushing for end content. I do know much of the appeal of FFXIV is getting to learn all classes and jobs on 1 character, so this is part of the "end content" but there are raids, dungeons blah blah

3.It does have "stand and cast" mechanics. You can get out of the way of telegraphed attacks, but no dodging like GW2. More thinking before you act because you cant button mash your way out of a bad situation.

    4. It is FinalFantasy, that answers your question about strory.

5.Same old same old. Grind jobs, grind raid gear. There is housing, but it is a guild (free company) perk. Maybe individual, not sure.

    6. The world is B E A U T I F U L. Take a breath and look around. I am enjoying playing with my wife who has never played anything harder than a golf sim. FOr me it is about having fun with her.

    7. The airship travel is a cutscene. Faster but not so "immersive"

TLDR:? You could drop the $15 for a month or $60-$80 on ESO. I know how I would decide.

Story line / Questing is by far the best in any MMO I've ever played since 93.  Other then that, well... it all depends on you. I've played since launch and left a few week before housing were released. The game got a bit to grindy for my own taste. Let's just call it boring grinding since every MMO has grinding, just that some are way better then others and FF14 isn't one of my favourites when it comes to grinding.  You'll also need a nice guild willing to teach you all about dungeon raids, because people will ditch you for a better player without even saying "Thanks, good bye"

On a side note, FF14 was the best solo experience I've ever had out of MMORPG, the Story line is really that amazing and is worth every penny. For the sub fee though, it all depends on how you like the end game.

Every patch adds new story content.  The story has progressed A LOT with every patch and it seems like it's building towards expansion content.  My guess is Ishgarde.

If you enjoyed the story... it might be worth it to sub for a month, every 2 patch cycles and do all of the story and unsub.  I love the story so far, and i'm one of those who continues to love the game.  I have found my home.

Thank you for your reply. Exactly what I was looking for. I like games that I can play with my gf. She enjoys playing SWTOR with me together we love the story there. I might have to try and get her a guest pass or something to see if she would like FF. She is a much slower person and isnt as good at games where you have to press so many buttons at once so maybe that is a good thing for us after all.

Story and questing is what makes me come to a game and later makes me stay, so to hear that is a good thing. I will have to give it a try obviously.

Wow. Lotro some what does that and I enjoy coming back for the epic questline but its usually only 10-20 quests which isnt much. How often are patches and how big are the storylines that are added?

Based on the other posts in this thread do you think I should care about what a WoW player #11293948 thinks about the game? I'm simply expressing my amusement over this thread and its premise. Trying out a game (that you already own!) is not rocket science that needs careful planning and a deep Freudian analysis.

I only played it in beta since I am a pvp fan but I can say this the pve part is really good. The game must be good since it's doing so well from what I have heard.

    1. I heard I dont have to buy the game if I already purchased the original back when. Im on my account and it says standard (win) underneath that it says inactive. That just means my account is inactive but I have the game correct?

That's correct. You just have to sub.

    2. I mostly enjoy PVE. Grouping up with people and destroying whatever it is that gets in our way. How is the dungeons, raiding, and end content for PVE?

PVE is decent. You grind instances endlessly which is basically what PVE is in every MMO. It's not mechanically any more/less impressive than anything else I've seen in the last few years. It's average.

    3. When I played in the beta I felt like the game felt slow, is that how it always is? It seemed like you used an ability and waited and then do it again.

It's extremely slow IMO. You get a few off-GCD abilities to weave in between attacks, but you're pretty much stuck with a long ass GCD. Some people like it, some don't.

    4. How is the story? This is always my favorite part of the game and the reason why I love going back and playing older games because they were so iconic. I like how in MMOs though you get to continue your story past the end credits with expansions and the ability to play with other players.

I thought the story was pretty terrible for a Final Fantasy game. The voice acting is atrocious and actually takes away from the story. There is a pretty heavy focus on it though, so my personal opinion aside, you may enjoy it as there is a good bit of story to dive into.

    5. What all is there to do once you hit max? This is essentially where 99% of the game happens so why am I coming back to play everyday and happy to do so?

Raid, PVP, dailies, etc. Standard MMO stuff.

    6. What do you recommend doing in the game? What do you enjoy doing in the game and what makes you happy to play it? Similar to 5 but more personal.

I like exploring the world and crafting in XIV.

    7. What are things you are disappointed about the game? Looking for things that might turn me off of the game myself or things that dont bother me which tells me if thats the worse that I will be happy to accept.

It's just another themepark MMO that evokes some of that Final Fantasy nostalgia, but it's a pretty hollow experience for me.

    Edit: Added more questions

    8. How alive are servers? Is there always people looking for groups and to do stuff? One reason I enjoyed wow for so long is that  its so easy to just log on and go do something.

I haven't played in a couple of months, but there was a pretty good amount of people playing.

    9. Addons? I enjoy addons for some reason. Just those little things that help you in game to save you a few minutes which shows a dedicated playerbase to request and create them is a good sign of a healthy game, at least in my eyes.

     No addons.

It's simply a general commentary on people who do this kind of thing, but it comes off as more offensive than it needs to be. I'm sorry OP.
