Just picked this up, got 2 copies for under 30 bucks. :)

Almost half of the US worlds are locked to new character creation, yes it is busy.

As far as misinformation goes, the main one I see is the claim that you need a sub. FALSE. Was never prompted to pick one, when I added my key to my account, it said 30 days. After such one can pick a sub, OR apply time cards, and NEVER have a sub.

In fact, the chatter about "having to have a sub" to play P2P games is B.S..

Normally I back up MMORPG.com, as at worst game fanatics that LOVE games. But after seeing several employees of MMORPG.com claim the falsehood of "all P2P games forever have REQUIRED subs", is making me wonder if they are actually in fact shilling.

But hey, got to make a buck.

Congrats to the makers of this game and the people that play it.

I really like this game , just got it for my Ps4 .... the sad thing is that 1,999,000  of those subscribers are probably gold farmers/sellers ... I only had it 1 day and there have already been hundreds of spam messages in chat , every few seconds really .. its infuriating :(

Kudos to Square Enix for turning the history of FFXiV upside back up!

They have trully done an amazing work redoing the whole game and making it a suscess!

I own the game...but it´s just not for me...

i didn´t even make it to level 30....... just too slow paced for my taste.

But great news for everyone anyway :)

Really? Did you just have to get that shot in there?  Good lord...no thanks.  Played to 50, grinded currency, got gear and the game is an empty shell at that point.  Glad they have 2 million subs though.  I guess 2 million people love grinding currency over and over with elitists that look down their nose at everyone.

I am really sorry. I did not mean anything by it other than what I said. The game is heavily group based and end game is so hard you need a static group to be able to advance.

    ----

I meant no disrespect to casual gamers or tried to sound like an elitist. My apologies.

    Registered users. Pretty clear distinction.

Wow.  I did not see that one coming.  500k players per day?  That's pretty darn good.  Eve has 500k subscriptions and had 60k or so players per day.  2M subs isn't out of the question.  Not by a long shot.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I agree totally! I had fun the month or so I put into it. It's a good mmorpg, but it just didn't hold me. I may go back and play a few weeks and see if it grabs me again!

Article in march 2014 says 500k user logins not unique users.  So if I log out  and back in later that would be two user logins.
  • kitaradkitarad Member LegendaryPosts: 8,165

I think you are mistaken.  Here it says

“If we go by the amount of people who log in each day, it’s about 500,000 people worldwide. There are people who also log in at least once every two days, so if we were to include those, the the figure would be much higher.”
    Read more at http://www.siliconera.com/2014/03/14/dragon-quest-x-impressive-300000-daily-active-players-japan/#3fsqdEz2IQQxUMec.99

Why would he say if we include people who log in once in two days if they are counting every time one user logs in as one log in. What they are counting is the singular account log in daily and not the number of times in one day that user logs in.

I seriously doubt the 500K players per day figure.

Dragon Quest X has sold over a million copies on the Wii, Wii U, WIN and Android since 2012. It has over 300k active players per day and guess what? It's only out in Japan. Pretty good for a local mmo huh?

FFXIV: ARR has released on PC, PS3 and PS4 in 3 regions Europe, NA and Japan (basically a crap load of countries). And you have a hard time believing that 200k more people play per day? Seriously?

wonder how many of those accounts are gold sellers XD. pretty solid for them but they did sell it on just about every platform in every country still nice job
  • Ramonski7Ramonski7 Member UncommonPosts: 2,662

Oh and here is something to chew on if you're doubting the 500k active players logging in:

Some hard data has been given about the game’s population as well. The game has 1,080,000 total unique logins (IE: unique players) since its release, 617,000 daily unique logins, and 344,000 peak concurrent users (IE: users connected at the same time).

Even if they are gold selling accounts, they're paying for those accounts. Just like they did in ESO, WoW, LoTRO, EvE and every other mmorpg on the planet that has a box price and/or sub.

    In Sept - yes.

I am doubting those figure for April of 2014 - as in this month - I don't think that the game had 500K unique users during any day in April.

The Steam version was released February 14, they just added another content patch on March 21 and the PS4 version launched April 14 (the open beta was before that). So why couldn't it reach that amount?

... How can the premise of the thread be factual?

Indeed with the new patch and release of ps4 version there is easily 100k more people playing the game. After all they went from 1.8 mil. to 2 mil thanks to the ps4 sales.

And in the fine tradition that SE started with FF XI, the PS4 & PS3 players are on the same servers are the PC players, no discrimination, this is a game that would have helped the XB1, sadly for Microsoft, it probably never will be image

Its totally believable that the game currently has over 2m players, the PS4 version has after all only just recently released, and in MMO terms its probably the best game on the PS4 currently, the only question is retention, though i have no reason to believe it won't continue to grow, it may even be 3m+ by christmas image

People are forgetting how big FF is in Japan and true to form, many of us Westerners start thinking the world revolves around us.

There is still one piece of the puzzle missing, patch 3.0, which brings Frontlines. How would a hardcore RvR pvper design RvR style pvp zone anyways?

I dunno why everyone always goes on about active subs vs registered users.  While I won't argue that there is always going to be a big difference between the two figures, here is the point that seems to be one everyone overlooks.

Almost every subscription game, mmo or otherwise does this.  It's normal to post the numbers based on this.  Every time this happens with every game the same old arguments arise, but why am I making a point of this?  Because it's the norm and in the grand scheme of things, for the most part this is kind of a standard of reporting the numbers.  Since it's the standard, instead of picking apart whether or not the active number is x vs registerered being y, why not compare apples to apples rather than apples to oranges?

On some level the comparison of subs to registered users may have weight but the fact is compare this to the mmo genre as a whole and FFXIV is a healthy game now.  If we were comparing say [insert any other mmo here] that reported on numbers based on subs rather than registered users it would be something to consider but since more than likely any mmo you compare it to also reported their numbers based on registered users you could straight up compare the numbers of the two games.

So again, in the grand scheme of things, 2M registered accounts is a sign of a game doing well.  I highly doubt that of those 2M accounts created that out of it an insignificant number is actually playing the game.

On a more applicable perspective based on actually playing the game, I have no problem finding players, I'm in a decent sized FC, and dungeons are never hard to queue up for and play through.  No matter when I log in,it is never barren or a ghost town.  That to me, says the game is doing well and as long as Square Enix is making money, and furthering the game, I consider it a success.

I don't know whether to be happy for Square or sad for the genre. The fact that obvious copies of other successful games are doing well is bad for the future of gaming. FFXIV is as obvious a GW2 clone as can be and yet people keep paying for these games.

Innovation is dead and MMO gamers killed it.

    Holy necro batman.

Also right off the bat, not "every company" releases only registered users/accounts/box sales. There are some that actually say how many active subs/players their games have.

Also, nobody is arguing, or has ever argued really, that FFXIV ARR isn't doing well. I am at a complete loss as to why you would necro a thread from 5 months ago to basically say "though it doesnt have 2 million players, its still doing well".

Also, why hasnt the title of this thread been corrected from "subscribers" to "accounts" in the last 5 months?
