Looking at the templar skills, I notice their Dawn's Wrath line is almost all casting stuff:

I originally wanted to go sorc, but more than that I wanted to be a healer for my group in PvE (while still having solo offensive capability for PvP0, so I've been leaning more towards Templar.
So, that said: Would a templar be viable in PvP or PvE wearing a robe and wielding a staff, using the Dawn's Wrath line? Or is it pretty much heavy armor/melee weapon or gtfo?
Thank you!

First of all you can be sorc healer, healing thru healing staff is viable.
And yes, you can be caster templar, its actualy quite good. Just know that you wont be healer and range dps with staff or casting abilities at the same time in dungeon or group. Both usess magicka, so no go...
Hrm... I was hoping it would be possible, taking the mana regen available on robes, but I suppose that makes sense! Would people get upset if I went pure healer, instead of a hybrid?
I am happy to hear about sorc healer, though! I had heard that staff healing was nowhere near as good as templar healing, so I was worried about being able to join a group and not being able to heal anyone enough to keep them from dying!
Thank you
I could heal just fine in beta with staff on my sorc, so i think its doable. But it is a bit harder and demands for you to pay more attention.
As for pure healer, i think eventualy people will only accept those into dung groups. With templar its actualy posible to do some damage while keeping everyone alive, but probably only with stamina based weapon. But that said, you will realy want to mainly heal in groups, specialy in dungeons. As for leveling and/or PvP, some sort of hybrid will be neccesary imo.
You can do both early but once you start hitting harder combat you have to lay off on the DPS. Especially for late game boss encounters.
Probably a good idea to use a staff for healing as well. The heavy attacks give you magicka back.
