Monday Morning Mutant Memorandom #1

LockmartLockmart Member Posts: 33

Hello all, and welcome to the first installment of Lockmarts Monday Morning Mutant Memo. Every Monday I hope to bring to you a new topic/poll for discussion and input. These are menat to be FUN, but also to have some constructive purpose just in case the Devs are gracious enough to look over it.

So without further ado, here is the first poll!

In our post-apocalyptic world you, for whatever reason, are given the oppurtunity to choose one of three vehicles. Perhaps you and some allies come across a garage and you get first choice of vehicle. Your options are 1) A Dune Buggy like in the trailer 2) A light Pickup Truck 3) A Hummer Mk. 1

You can only choose one. You cannot tow anything. You can't go back. No tricks, just choose one and explain why.

More about the vehicles:

1) The Dune Buggy -
Pros -
a) Fastest
b) Most Maneuverable
c) Fuel Efficient
d) Low maintenance

Cons -
a) Little protection / armor
b) Little cargo capacity

Upgrades -
a) Can add armor to the driver compartment and engine. But reduces all your Pros.
b) One weapon Hardpoint placed above/behind the driver. Needs a gunner to stand in the back
by the engine to crew it. Energy weapon or .50 cal most likely since storage space for ammo is
limited.

2) The Pick Up Truck (Think Afghan Warlord style) -
Pros -
a) High Cargo capacity
b) Good Speed
c) Good Maneuver
d) Moderate armor
e) Medium Fuel efficiency

Cons -
a) Moderate Maintenance
b) Exposed cargo area
c) Doesnt excel at any one thing.

Upgrades -
a) Can add armor over windows at minimal cost
b) Can add armored side-walls to truck bed for protection reduces speed and fuel efficiency
c) One hard point with 360 degree fire arc. Energy, .50 cal, Recoiless Rifle all possible

The truck is the Middle ground option. And would be my choice.

3) The Hummer -
Pros -
a) Good Armor
b) Good cargo
c) Most interior passenger capacity
d) Intimidating ::::40::

Cons -
a) Slow
b) Fuel Hog
c) Attracts Thiefs?

Upgrades -
a) Enhanced armor. Very Little reduction to fuel efficiency.
b) One hardpoint, gunner more protected than other vehicles. I'm heistant on the Recoiless Rifle
since moving ammo from the crew compartment up seems difficult to me, any experts here?

So basicly we have Fast and Light. Medium Jack of All trades, And the Slow Armored vehicle. Or Scout, Caravan Hauler, and Escort.

I chose a humvee - it is intimidating after all ::::40:: - and think about it - if I need fuel I will just drive over to some god forsaken vilage and bump the locals for some gas. Worst comes to worst I will have to shoot few pople to get it! But in the end... my bullets will get to them faster then theirs would get to mine.

Mayhaps they will have a mutant distillery - I will be able to recycle few mutants into alcohol/kerosine mixtire to run the humvee. And then keep cute mutant chicks in order for me to sell them to the whorehouse for the privileged freaks who own next "proper" town.

    YAY

    Humvee FTW 0/

Dunebuggy: Not enough cargo to carry all the loot from the pilaged villages

Pickup: Enough Cargo, but mutant chicks will get all scragly and dirty and any decent cathouse wont
    pay as much!

Humvee: Allot of cargo, Mutant chicks will be kept "fresh" and sound. And its the only vehicle self-respecting, post-apocaliptic cyber pimp would allow himself to be driven in. ::::15::

Standard mounted weapons on Hummers are .50 cals and Mark 19's (automatic 40mm grenade launcher) But depending on what you want, you can mount computer controlled turrets with 4 to 6 .50 cals which is usually used against airborne targets. For the standard mounted weaponry, it's not that much of a bitch to move up.

I'm going to have to go for the Hummer here. It's got superior engine power, good maneuverability, armor (although it doesn't do jack for anything heavier then small arms fire and can if hit at the right angle be penetrated by 7.62mm).

The engine can (as I have seen before) be modified given it a big increase in speed. Good storage space and would definently fit all my friends in it. Only problem is it is a gas guzzler.

But just real quick, can't I just have either an AAV or even the M1126 Stryker. That would be total ownage!!!image

Pickup all the way. Hummer with a .50? Try a pickup with a mounted m60 on the roof, AND 4 guys in the back with misc weapons. Lower armor, but better speed, and more firepower. Plus alone, you can carry more crap. Cant put a dirtbike in a hummer can ya? Okay maybe you can, but it'd be uncomfortable i'll tell ya!

I much prefer the holes a .50 cal makes compared to the M60's 7.62mm. I've seen first hand what those babies can do and trust me, it's pretty scary! Also, I love Hummers cuz I have seen loads of customized civilian versions and HOLY CRAP!!! I DON'T NEED A HOUSE ANYMORE!!!image

Think about it. Post apoc, where you gonna get .50?

You can have your hummer with a mounted .50....and 38 rounds. I'll take the pickup with the m60...and a few boxes of 7.62.

I think that instead of attracts theives, the hummers last con should be "Attracts Bullets" since they are bullet magnets.

I would choose the truck. Good all around, and can still have the firepower of the hummer or beyond (just have a guy with an RPG or other explosive back there) while have a faster speed. Remember, its better to have speed and maneuverability than armor. If you can dodge shots its much better than getting dinged. Dings cost money, dodges cost nothing. Plus its more fuel efficient, so you don't have to worry about wasting gas as much as the hummer.

The truck is the most cost effective and still has a nice cargo and troop capacity.

I'd have to go with the Afghan Tech Truck. I know in all logic the Hummer is a much better vehicle but the truck is my favorite as far as style goes. Mine would have no mounted weapons, cuz I need plenty of room in the back for ammo. I normally choose the fastest vehicle, with the lowest armor cuz the way I see it, if they can't hit me, then why do I need armor. image  I'll trade it in for a faster car later down the line. Something old school looking like an Impalla or a Monte Carlo. Nothin like a Detroit classic.

Same for the M60. But my guess would be the Military base I find the Hummer in. image

Isnt 7.62 the same round AK47's use? Even if it isnt, it's gotta be alot lighter than .50
