I've played several MMO's and have load tested this beta. It is not "epic". Once you've played wow to end game content, what more can anyone make in an MMO that is better? They've had over a decade to perfect everything as far as content and story goes.
When they say they continue the elder scrolls online, the story & gameplay feel is what they meant. The game play is not exactly Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind, but it's a continuation and melding of all those. And for that in story they have succeeded and very well.
For me Skyrim was only epic in graphics, scale and sandbox. The story is lack luster. ESO could not be expected to have the same wealth of graphics in an MMO, but with my monster rig and all maxed out to Ultra it's pretty damn close.
I have respect for what they have done so far. They make SWTOR look like a booger. Wow is still a cartoon but has an extremely advanced menu and GUI (options). Any other MMO I've played, for me, is not worth mentioning.
I stopped playing MMO's after 6 months of SWTOR. When I first heard of ESO I was extremely happy. Now that I've beta tested I can say, it will fill the void. For me there are no new games coming out that are worth my time or that can hold my attention for more than a week. ESO will, and I am already hooked.
Someday in the future an MMO will come that will blast everything you know out of the water, but with ESO today is not that day.
Funny how I get called a troll... like no, that word is thrown around so much these days, it has lost all meaning. I'm just saying I do not know any one in my group of friends who likes it, every one I speak to says it has butchered what made TES great and is just another boring MMO but without the world. Very much like SWTOR in that respect, only SWTOR had good combat, probably the best since WoW until patch 1.2 ruined it. There was the slight ability delay, but once that was sorted it would have been very tight. The combat in this game though is terrible, I do not understand why any one would want to play PVP with it, never will be competitive at all.
It is not a persistent world, therefore it isn't an MMO, but we see this a lot now where games will be so instanced and zoned up, there will only be like 100 players per zone and it is called massive. Like no, SWG was massive, EVE was massive, PS was massive, EQ pre Luclin and PoP was massive and so was UO. Even WoW which is credited as killing all creativity in the genre launched as one of the best MMOs and the most polished by far. It was massive, they did a seamless world where you actually had to travel with no loading screens and every single person could be in the same area at the same time. Does any one remember all the city raids and crazy world pvp like Tarren Mill vs Southshore before BGs came in and ruined the game?
TESO is not an MMO and it isn't an Elder Scrolls game.
Are you saying that combat in ES was ever great ? It was always pretty bland to me and still I like all of the ES titles I played. I think ESO got the best combat of an ES game, less customization maybe but still the best combat.
And the 100vs100vs100 fights I been involved into makes me believe that it also is a mmo ...
I played the beta weekend, but really got bogged down by the forced island tutorial, I kinda like to just jump in and well....play. An element that is actually a deal breaker for me is no housing at launch and none in the future. I got the word from the staff a couple days ago. For me, an MMO needs to be immersive and even practical, and housing really helps make it that way.
I did like the graphics , although it is a tad colorless. Crafting was interesting in that it was different then the usual. My biggest peeve ingame was having to come up with 1k gold for bank slots. That is really cheap development and costs a lot of time just doing meaningless killing and collecting to get it.
Someday, when it is ftp and much cheaper to buy, I may consider it because my son is going to play. But... prolly not in reality.
No housing is a big deal for me, too. I also wasn't fond of the whole island deal, but didn't I read they changed that? I guess I'll give it another shot this weekend, but I'm not really sold on it after several beta weekends.
If I had more disposable income (but still not enough for an expensive hobby like world travel or maybe world domination) I'd buy it anyway to fill that gap before Wildstar, but I don't, so I'm thinking I will give this a pass.
Thinking if I am going to drop a chunk of change on a game it should be that Everquest alpha anyway. I could at least build things. Or try but make a mess of it, which is more likely.
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.
Originally posted by keenber If i only played the first 2 zones i guess i would feel the same as you. Once i got to the main land it felt like a totally differant game and it was fun to just explore with friends and do the odd quest here and there.
Looking forward to that, but will be saving ir for the actual launch. This weekend will be mostly trying another few class/builds, crafting and learning how to mf**king lockpick properly.
BTW, how do I get or where do Treasure maps come from and what do they lead to?
I feel for you on the lockpicking. I suck at it. Im checking out some videos on how "easy" it is. Sighs.
Trasure maps are drops, they give you a drawing of an area, usally close by, you then find a mound with treasure in it. Im reading that its player specicifc. Your map, your reasure, your loot.

I like it, im playing it. I bought the CE. I guess I must suck at MMO-ing. Better yet, I must suck at TES-ing.
I think Ill pick a game I didnt like and go bash it now! Just kidding. I dont waste my time, or others time that way.
Really looking forward to this beta weekend. Im most looking forward to the lauch. Will this game kill off other games for me? Naw. It will keep me playing for a few months at least.
Not every game out there is made for YOU. I wish this was true, but its not. Theres games I just do not like. ESO, I like. ESO I will play.

So now everybody that doesn't agree with you is wrong huh?
Hmmm...I think i'll let everyone else point out the flaws with that,,,
Love the pvp, best I've seen of an rvr style since DAOC. Everything else can be brought up to par overtime if it's lacking idc. I'll be in game all weekend.

That's odd...my brother-in-law, who has been with TES franchise since the very beginning, thinks they nailed the feel of ES. The only complaint he has is the lack of player made mods that really enjoys messing with.
If you've only played he first islands then you haven't gotten to the mainland. I gotta admit, the first islands suck, that's why Zenimax is making it so the default is people skip it all together, and have to choose to go back. I'll probably go back and do it, free skill point and skyshards are to be had However, after about level 10 the game really opens up and becomes fun. They have been listening and they're actually making weapons and armor interactive now. If you see a weapon on a rack, they're making it so you can pick it up. This has to be limited somewhat because of the MMO aspect of the game. In the hold of the Prowler, there's an armor rack with Templar end-game armor on it. That'd be bad from and MMO standpoint to grab it at level 3 or so lol. They're expanding and fixing the phasing issues when you're in a group, no more floating arrows lol. Just for the fact that Zenimax seems to actually listen to it's players makes me love this game even more. I have been in many betas before, and none have changed so much and in so little time. Every patch they do has almost always been for the better.
Seen a couple of Swtor pvp is better in the replies.....kinda laughed at that!!
I haven't seen ANY mass pvp in Swtor at all like ESO gots. ^^
I personally have more fun with Huttball, but I love Huttball. Just a personal taste. Got sick of the whole zerg based pvp in GW2. I like pvp where the smallest thing can change the match, such as a good pass. ESO just isn't my taste, doesn't make it better or worse, just not for me.

No, we're pretending to like it in order to make people paranoid. I guess it worked.
Seriously though, it's extremely easy to get bored with any game if you just do the tutorial and stop playing. Why in the world would you expect to have seen anything remotely interesting that might have kept you playing? lol

Not to sound like a hater, because ESO could genuinely be a good game, but if you are not having fun, why would you keep playing the game?

People love the game so far, and once it comes out and we're able to play, I believe people will love it! It's going to be far better than WoW, SWTOR and pretty much any other MMO out there....you'll see
I heard this weekend's beta has 3 million potential beta players (that's how many keys they've sent out so far). I know from just my friends I've met over the years, a lot of them will be playing ESO. Half my guild in WoW says they've pre-ordered, and many others from other games I've played.

It's your choice. When I first started playing WoW, I quit after about 10 levels, but I came back some time later and gave it another try. Now I have 5 lvl 90's. If you base a game on its first few levels, and complain you have nothing to play, whose fault is it really? The devs or yours?
EDIT: Sorry, not the first few levels. The TUTORIAL. Which is nothing like the rest of the game.

I would still say it is the developer's fault honestly. If a section of a game is just plain not fun, then they did it wrong. Just my opinion though.

I've been playing on the PTS since October. I still love the game and already purchased the Digital Imperial Edition direct from Bethesda.
I don't get paid anything for beta testing their product or saying how much I enjoy the game.
I've also been a fan of TES since Morrowind and I've played a lot of MMO games over the years, including WoW.
Based on my experiences beta testing, I will be playing ESO for a very long time.
At one point during playing the game, several months back, I had the "this is TES moment". The story sucked me in and I haven't looked back.
People need to stop expecting this game to be the next TES or the next big MMO and just enjoy it for what it is.
@OP
Nope not a fan of it at all.. its just a quest grind fest and boring as hell.
Saying that some people enjoy that kind of thing so each to their own
