First off I'm gonna go with the idea that since the guys name is "Bryan Lightningrod" he is probably trolling.  But even if he wasn't I would take peace in the fact that kids rebel.  It is just as likely that a person who really did believe something like that would produce an offspring who, because it grew up in such abject poverty, would work harder and do better in order to provide their own kid with a better life.

Of course, that kid would probably turn out to be a little piece of crap like grandma and grandpa, but things will come around again.  It's the way of the world :P
