The best games I have played Everquest, Everquest 2 and Vanguard though not theirs strictly. I will back them any day over some kickstarter who has not proven themselves yet. So this new project I support it SOE.

Trying to say Star Wars isnt SciFi is ridiculous

    BINGO!

It's not a game for the SWG fan. It's a game for the masses with inspiration taken from SWG. (Giving the benefit of the doubt there)

     Starships.

The minute Star Wars presented the idea of altering substances with your mind, it stopped being about science, no matter the environment. That fantasy, holmes...

    At best...SW is Science Fantasy.

I will give you this...prior to the arrival of force powers in SWG, it passed the Sci-Fi test...

Star Wars is a space opera, taking place in on a variety of planets, giant space ships, and featuring a variety of alien life forms.

The force was never "magic", not even according to Lucas.

Star Wars is, and always will be, science fiction.

And of course it's fantasy, it's not HIGH fantasy; which is what you're trying to make a case for.

I think this mythical SWG mmo Smedley is talking about is not much more than an attempt to deflect the attention that Repop is getting. Pretty low. Even for that guy.

I commend all the boys (and gals) at SOE for having some quality think tank sessions!  Get a solution and call it a week!

ps - say hi to George Costanza for me!  I know he works there.

The market dictates what type of MMO's get made and god knows we need a good PvE FANTASY SANDBOX MMO since there's  not one currently on the market.  I applaud this move especially in the face of Eve, The Repopulation, The Division, Titan, Destiny and The Crew.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

Well , with good reason I can be ambivalent  (Hmm strange parallel )  but Everquest was my first MMO  and then SWG but then I was force-d to go elsewhere. Kickstarter proves that the MMO community  need a sandbox sci-fi MMO as well as I.

The Pern novels by Anne McCaffrey have swords, dragons, castles, and telepathy, yet are regarded as sci-fi (good sci-fi too, IMO).

I just cannot help but think he's trying to spin off of SWG to build hype and momentum for their next MMO......ok, the one after the NEXT one.

It's not like he hasn't recently played off a group of old SoE vets on another title only to reveal a game that had little to offer the old Vets in terms of why those Vets played the original title in the 1st place.

Why expect anything different here? He's already tipped his hat to the demographic he's looking for.

however, post-apocalyptic, i am very down with that.

    just, please, no zombies.

Any science that is sufficiently advanced as to defy explanation will appear as magic.

Let's also not forget the many many Sci Fi stories that revolved around the supernatural or rather ancient super science. Go read the Lensman Series which is seen by many as the original inspiration for Babylon 5.

Well we can't dismiss Fallen Earth, okay it's not a full zombie MMO but it does have them and it's post apocalyptic and is more MMORPG instead of just a MMO.

Lizardbones mentioned Revolution (tv series) but I actually enjoy that show, like most shows they start somewhat weak but became stronger. Still hoping for that "click" moment with Marvels Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D but back to Revolution I could see a MMORPG in it.

As for SWG the only 3 type of players I would consider playing that game are 1: Star Wars Fans, 2: Sci-Fi players and 3: the MMO/MMORPG tourist (one that only enjoy's MMO/MMORPGames).But I feel the first 2 are it's main atraction for the game.

So it's definitly not SWG 2.0, it isn't even Sci-Fi. So was Star Wars Galaxies aimed at only the MMO/MMORPG tourist?

There have been so many topics from players who said they would have played the game even if it wasn't Star Wars related but just because of it's  Sci-Fi setting.

So I am slightly confused what is there "to come home to"

As a SWG veteran, played in friends beta till several months into the NGE, only stopped playing cause most who'm I played with left and as a crafter the months since the CU my most sold items were bountyhunter droids. (several accounts to cover all craft Mastery's) And I just had enough untill I came back in 2007 for 7 months.

The repopulation is one I am really excited about as many others said it seems to be truly aimed at us SWG veterans to give us a new "home" but not betting it to be released this year.....

I could have lived with a TSW sandbox MMO actually, but what I don't like is that he said it's an FPS.

they did recently trademark the name H1Z1. a play on the bird flu virus (or swine flu?) can't remember.

Killed even the very slight interest I had right there. Despise these "new" "action" MMO's.

    I don't mind the 'action' combat, but I can't do FPS's.

How the hell does an FPS (Any FPS) count as a welcome home mat to SWG fans?

Sci-Fi wasn't needed. The 250 point allocation system, sandbox, player driven economy but FPS?

Smed needs to put away the crack if his brilliant plan for bringing back the SWG fans is a post apocalyptic FPS.

Is this really any different than the bait and switch he pulled on EQ vets?

It is an Amish life simulator / FPS / MMO so there is plenty of crafting and community building.

Will you be a farmer, a barn raiser, a quilter... who knows what excitement (good wholesome God-fearing) awaits!

"Prepare yourself English, the Amish are coming henceforth to your Devil Machine!!!"

As long as it has the skill point system and harvesting (with a scythe) I'm in... Entertainers are screwed as I don't think the Amish do scantily clad Twiilek dancing girls.
