I am soo pissed. I just started playing EQ2 cause I jacked up my specs bought a new graphics card, added a new Hardrive. I am so upset. Still on I can't play it on max settings, it's a good game I suppose but it lacks the depth that EQ1 had. The world kinda seemed empty to me, and the quests cannot be completed without cheat sheets. The grind is horrible, and no fun because if your shadowknight or Sorc you cant get in a group. All the mobs are linked and they just *ape you. I dunno maybe I'm being judgemental but I spent all this money and my comp still can't properly run it. Sigh....
Oh and the customer service was pathetic when I tried to cancel my account, they were so pushy about it. They almost were telling me 'no'. I had to actually argue with them to close it, total bs. Sony used to be a leader now they just released a souless product with the intent to make money, gamers be damned. ::::27::

EQ2 wasnt meant to run on high on ANY computer that is out now.  It is intended to scale up so the graphics will still be good in 3 or 4 years.  Not many computers could run it at full settings.

alright, take a deep breath. in.....and out......

first off good luck finding ANY computer lower than $2x,xxx that willl run the game at max settings with minimal lag. the game can honestly be as in depth as you make it. although the "empty world" is purely a matter of opinion on what you expect to see (how do you call ), the game is actually very deep. if you take the time to get into the story of the game and READ the quests instead of just doing them there is a lot of depth. as for needing cheat sheets, i've only used cheat sheets on 3 quests so far, all of which were just because i wanted the item desperately and didnt want to take the time to find out how to do it myself, but it CAN be done.

as for grinding, how far into the game did you get? I didnt notice any grind at all until my mid-late 30s and even at 41 it still isn't that bad IMO. you dont have to just kill kill kill to get xp either, questing is a very viable source of xp throughout the game.

i know shadowknights (and sometimes paladins i have to admit) have a hard time getting groups, but this is purely ignorance by the players because they don't know the true capabilities of the class, you can't really blame SOE for that.

yes there are a lot of mobs that come in groups, but these IMO are actually more fun BECAUSE they are oftentimes more challenging. if you have a decent group and realize you can't always take out oranage or red ^^ or grouped ^ mobs you really shouldn't have too much trouble getting "raped".

what are the specs of your PC? have you tried lowering the graphics? I have an Intel P4 3.2GHz, 128MB ATI Radeon 9600XT, and 1gig RAM and while i cant run the game at max I can definitely run it at what i think are great graphics and still get little to no lag. (i'll add some screenshots to show you what i run at).

as for the CS upon cancellation i can't really comment because i havent tried cancelling my account. however, i have actually been VERY satisfied with all the in-game CS support i have recieved.

Nihilanth - Kerra Paladin - Blackburrow - EverQuest II

if you want a slim chance at running it at max settings then grab two radeon x850 xt (or...whatever it is, the best 850), double those up however you do that, and get at least 3 gigs of ram and have some other really good things there. And then maybe, just maybe you can run it at max.

when it says to set it to "high" it clearly states it recommends a 512 MB vid card...those don't even exist yet unless you dual two 256 mb cards...

Don't fume over it not running at the best settings. What you need is to turn the graphics down to what your system can handle (please post your system specs and some of us can help you out there) and then find a friend to group with and help you get into the game.

It may not be as good as EQ1 or AC1 (AC1 > EQ1) but it's still a decent game, and one of the best on the market right now.

Also, remember, the EQ2 graphics engine can go from its predecessor's graphics level (no joke) to beyond anything we have seen as of yet, so just find the area you're computer can handle.

As for the customer service, we all know SoE's Customer Service sucks in general, no need to state the obvious...(if you want good customer service go to eve (O_o) )

Oh yeah...the grind does exist, but get vitality and you will hardly notice it if you have a good group or a friend to play with.

"Properly" doesn't mean "everything at maximum."  Try tweaking the things that are important to you and you can have a very rewarding experience.  For example, if you want a long clip plane, turn down shadows and character rendering a bit.

The major cities seem to be lag-fests, so try avoiding them when possible.  I would rather run through Antonica to get to North or South Qeynos rather than go through the Harbor.  It may actually take longer that way but it's less frustrating.  SOE may still be tweaking those zones because they haven't seemed as laggy the last few times I've had to go through there.

I haven't had to use cheat sheets for quests except in a couple instances.  For instance, I couldn't "find" Fangbreaker Keep so I finally looked up a map.  However, I discovered that I couldn't "find" it because I was confusing it with the Calsortis Ruins (I thought they were one and the same, so never approached it).  Just because you're told to find someone "somewhere in Antonica" doesn't mean you need a cheat sheet - you need the patience to explore.  The point of most quests is not the reward but to familiarize yourself with the areas involved.

I wasn't aware that you had to talk to customer service to close an account - unless you were trying to get a refund.  Otherwise, just cancel your billing information and let the account expire.

I haven't played a shadowknight or sorcerer, however, you have to be aware that some spells are AOE and others are AOE-encounter only.  So, if you fire off an AOE spell you may be hitting mobs outside of your current encounter, causing you to believe they were linked when in fact, you aggroed them.

Sorry your experience was so bad, but it sounds like most of your dissatisfaction is based on unrealized and maybe unwarranted expectations.  You don't say what your system specs were/are, so although you upgraded, you may not have upgraded enough or upgraded the right things.

    BS...

I ran it at MAX settings very well on my system which is NOT SLI or even PCI-X. Its not low end by a long shot but its not the system you're claiming is needed either. I have an AMD 64 3400+ with 2gb of Kingston HyperX Low Latency ram and an eVGA nVidia 6800 Ultra, 2 160gb HDDs in Raid-0 for content and a 3rd 40gp HDD just for OS.

And my 2nd system which I have run EQ2 on as well (I used to run 2 accounts at once) is only an AMD XP 1800+, 1gb of pc2700 ram and a Geforce FX 5500. VERY low end by todays standards and it ran the game, granted with a good bit of the bells and whistles turned off but I could definitely run the game on that system lag free.

I had p4 1.8ghz with geforce fx5600 and it was running ok with 2/3 of the options turned off. I upgraded to amd 64 3000+ with ATI x600 and it ran fine with 3/4 options turned on. So PC specs should be fine. However, I keep my puter extremely clean and sober, meaning i got NO spyware, no junkware, no programs running in the BG that i dont need, i removed every service i did not need. 2 gig of ram helps a lot too, if anything, add more ram. theres never too much ram

However, i left EQ2 for a dif reason. It became a chore for me. First of all i realy love combat in EQ2, its unique and very much fun. But I couldnt survive on the combat alone, thats where the grind is. I tried doing quests but those just sucked becuase they arent always clear, its very hard navigating cities AND in time i forget where the person i gotta see to finish it is. So that killed questing for me, and after doing combat for a while it felt like a huge grind and so i left ::::16::

I wish EQ2 navigation, questing and UI was more like WoW, then it would of been priceless

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Guess what Sir Isaac Newton, EQ2 cannot be played on ANY available home hardware at maximum settings. Do you hear me NO home computer can play it on maximum settings yet. Playing on High Quality will lag the best system still. n00b.

P.S. Konou Id love to see video of your system running the game lag free on max settings, perhaps you can submit it to Ripley's?

You don't have to call to cancel. Open the launch pad, agree to the ToS, and click on "My Account" on the left side of the login screen.

Not to bash, but you seemed less enlightened than I was about the game.
