I loved this game back in the Dreamcast days. In fact, this was my first online game experience and is a big reason why I am into mmo's now.

Actually, it's kinda like Guild Wars in a way, except the emphasis is on the pve. The world isn't persistant. Also the combat is all real time. Basicly, you and up to three other players meet up and go on a raid of a large instanced dungeon like area. The last boss is realy tough but fun to fight. It has all the trappings of other online rpgs; leveling, item collection, etc. Don't get me wrong, it has it's limitations but overall it's a fun expereince. I bought it for the xbox too when it came out on that platform but the people talking over xbox live kinda ruined it for me. I'll check out the PC version too and see what thats like I guess.

Well I have downloaded, installed, registered, and tried to log in. No luck. I'm guessing just because the client was available the game isn't online yet. The PSOBB site says tomorrow. I'll try again then.

  • ZarinhZarinh Member UncommonPosts: 109

I was able to log in, and played for an hour or so. I believe those who found you could req. earlier today were able to get an account that would connect now. People who has made them in the last hour or such are the ones that can't log on.

    I could be wrong though.

    Nice....Downloading now. Should be good.

  • OminisOminis Member Posts: 1,015

Made my account and I've started downloading. I've played some of the earlier editions before on the consoles in a few multiplayer games (not online) and it was pretty fun. Seems like it is for the most part the same thing but that might not be all that terrible. Guess we'll get to find out.

This game is simply pure fun ::::08::

Its always a joy to play, and I've been waiting for a server-side saving PSO for the longest time.

    Also it's addictivness is unreal.

Edit - Servers are down. They kinda underestimated the demand methink ::::39::

I thought this game was so much fun back in the dreamcast days. Tried playing it with my xbox and couldn't get back into it though :( Downloaded the beta..now all I have to do is wait til the servers are up..definately a great filler when WoW is down for 6 hours every Tuesday sigh.

Wait BB, are you telling me that the Sonic Team kept the crappy lobby system and 4 player limit and chatbox chat system that plagued the console games? F That.

Not ONLY that, but they kept the EXACT same controls from the DC version. So unless you play with a control pad, its a bit frustrating at first. However, after I got the flow back, it seemed almost too easy.

I find it pretty sad that Sega has milked a 5-6 year old Dreamcast game this long, porting it to various systems and yet made virtually no changes to it. Yes, this game was pretty fun back in 2000 on the DC, but now it just seems horribly outdated, not to mention the game feels downright clunky without a keyboard. It's pretty obvious they didn't expect many people to bother playing the game with a keyboard and mouse.

Imagine that..playing a PC game with a keyboard and mouse...sheesh, the nerve.

Anyway, I just figured I'd try it out with my brother after a few years of not playing it, for nostalgia's sake. In the end, I'm a bit disappointed by the general lack of effort Sega has put into it. It's the SAME game that it was 5 years ago.

Then again, I'm not sure what I expected...

For some reason, I am still not able to log in. Very frustrating to say the least.

I was able to patch the game but not be able to play. All I get is some message about the servers being down. Last night they had said something about the servers going down for maintenance, so I guess maybe they are still working on the problem. Has anyone been able to get on or has it been the same for you guys?

Actually, I had your same problem up until about 5PM EST, which was when I had my first successful login.

They might be down again, though; I guess Sega has been having some major server problems with this open beta.

By chatbox, I meant the little chat bubbles that were implented in PSO console. The faces that the japanese made caused me massive headaches.

Only team (=guild) chat has a log rest are chat bubbles & pre-made smilies. Its still the same PSO, each episode adds new maps, monsters, quests & items (Episode 1,2 & 4 are included in PSO:BB release, dont know if all will be available during beta. No idea why card battler got Episode 3 naming, should have been PS: Card Battler).

Gameplay doesnt change since its the same weapon types thruu all episodes, some monsters get new tactics (same spells for player classes). Game engine has higher res textures, shadows & some new details on the maps but its still the same game (but with server storage only).

Guild Wars will/has definitely taken a large chunk from the "potential customer group" (instanced zones, big hub for meeting others). Phantasy Star Universe will hopefully show where all the profit from PSO-series went. I cant see many sticking to PSO:BB after open beta with GW around, including me ::::21::

But if it was the massive cheating that ruined PSO for you, thats no longer a issue (havent heard anything from Japanese PSO:BB & server storage helps alot with preventing cheating).
