I am thinking to buy the alpha pass for elite, (i had enough of smoke and mirrors from another game which was suposed to deliver something in dec). Before getting burned second time i would want to check this time.
It's totally playable, but you can only play what is actually being tested currently. Which right now is ship to ship combat. It's very polished already though, more than a lot of finished games are
I don't think we will see anything close to the full game until beta. Which should be soon as they still plan on releasing the game in March I think.
I recommend not paying your way into alpha. It's just a combat test, and it's a serious amount of money to drop considering for how much less you get the full game if you're willing to wait just 3 months. IMO playing early stages of the game kind of spoils the experience of the full game as well. When I think back on Elite: Dangerous in years to come I want to think of a massive universe of freedom and exploration rather than a boxed in combat scenario.
If you just spend the regular copy money you'll get a lot less burned even if the game doesn't live up to the expectations we have of it.

That's my view, I got the basic 100c and a Sidewinder package with Kickstarter and then added the free expansions option from the shop, total of £55. I am happy to wait for the Gamma launch. The money saved will be spent on hardware to improve the experience.
I would agree. If you get anything buy the Beta or wait for Gamma. But the Alpha is pretty cool. Hopefully the start of next week. It will be PVP in combat :P

Check it out for yourself, plenty of player posted videos and screens in the forums.

The quality of the Alpha ist magnificent! The next step is to test the multiplayer and it will come very soon.
I do not repent of spending my money so soon
