EQN-The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

KeluianKeluian Member UncommonPosts: 14

Read this....then vote.

First off, this is from the view of someone who LOVED EQ, played it for over 10 years. Did not like EQ2, played it 3 months. Thought WoW was ok for a ripoff style game. And approached this game with hopeful skepticism.

I know many people are disappointed, focusing on one aspect and ripping it a new one. I don't want to do that, yet. I want to look at it as a whole. So I'll break it into three parts....

The Good

1) Bringing Norath Back-Norath is a huge land. However sadly it got less about opening that world up and more about creating alternate worlds to enter yada yada. Got just too carried away. (Same problem I had with WoW) So much so the old content was forgotten. This is a way to hit the reset button....IF it works.  Also if the game works how they say a new alt=a new game experience usually...we'll see.

2) Destructability- Permanant or not it's a good idea, I hate the idea my spell is strong enough to blow up 20 NPC's...but the signpost is still standing!!! ridiculous.  However, I have some worries as alot of the holes looked....very much the same. Plus if I destroy the ground, is there always something under? hmmmmm....but overall it's a new way to explore.

3)  NPC AI- IF it works like they made it sound, a learning AI in a world, no more spawn spots...GOD THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!  Immagine, no more spawn camping. I'd love that. However, will it apply to boss NPC's?

4)Massive Quests- The worldwide quest system, not new really but it looks fun.

The Bad

1) Character Models- Ok so far they showed female human, and Kerran male. The female human was ok to look at, smooth moves, a bit anime looking but that was the intent. And fair enough too much realism at times makes people forget it's just a damn game. Also it's hard to "update" the look. However the Kerran, the first time I saw it I thought "Ok, that has to be a joke...come on...where's the real model?"  I mean seriously it looks like a Cartoon Lion head, stuck on a massive Barbarian style body. Just plain ridiculous. Honestly makes me want to puke. I was expecting more Thundercats, less Simba.

2) Landmark-It's freaking minecraft, and a delaying tool.  This release slated for winter, means the actual game is doubtful for a LONG time to come. At best winter 2014 more likely Summer 2015.  I hate it just because it means that long.

3)Round Table- It's BS, the only topics are started by them. If they want TRUE feedback, open it up to OUR own topics to start. Even if they have to approve them before posted public. 4 polls is a joke.

The Ugly

1)Landmark...again-  In all honesty, while the concept of players designing parts of norath is nice....it's going to result in some people making ridiculous things. Things that are a bad joke. It honestly makes me want to vomit imagining the items that will come out. I see penis towers and boobie rugs in our future. Good for a laugh, but not for a game.

2) The Presentation- Where they "fought" the monsters, most of them didn't do anything but stand there. That is....dull. VERY dull. One NPC did attack back and they literally used the same attacks again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again............GYAH!!!!

3) Multiclassing-I love it and hate it.  But the idea that there will be no levels just this? it should have both.  I  don't see  it resulting into a lovely system. newbies and veterans on the same level of power? wtf.  Ok yeah the gear may vary....but...

Overall, I want to see more...That's my simple vote. This game looks rough, and needs alot of work.

I will never complain about character models.

I have no interest in World of Minecraft (Landmark). Hopefully, the actual game will be less about customization for the sake of it and more about exploration and combat.

What's with this fascination in the west that female characters can't look good, and if they do it's automatically anime?  It drives me crazy how we only appreciate and tolerate ugly characters.  Why are we so uptight?

The ugly for me is facerolling thru 10s of mobs decimating em with 1 attack ... If pvp is not really an option at least make the pve challenging. Hope what we were shown isn't what the game is like.

I think that the landmark is one of the best things I heard about EQN.  It was said that landmark creations will be posted on a website and voted on before getting into the game, so I don't think you need to worry too much about "penis towers and boobie rugs" (or do we? depends on the community).

If you really think about it Landmark is completely seperate from EQN. You will not see stuff from Landmark cross over unless the devs like it. Also my view is landmark is just a beta for EQN.

Actually, it has nothing with them looking good. Anime has the exagurated features. Big eyes, wide hips, extra full lips.  Has nothing to do with pretty or not.  Though I did say was ok to look at. Not the best looking anime-esque look I've seen though.

While there may be more info coming out, it's good to get a first impression.  And honestly that's why I have the options I do, I voted personally "I want to see more" Just relax!

I didn't think the characters were anime,  I thought thee girl was a clone from the wildstar exile faction reveal, and the "kerran" was stolen from the next expansion of WoW with all the armor he was wearing.

For the girl they just raided  lionhead studios and took some unused Fable art for her look.

The only thing i was impressed with during the reveal is the was SOE has decided to do a Blizzard, and just steal ideas from other games.

Landmark is like a test server, you don't have to play it to play EQN. That's one complaint that surprises me. I hate you for giving me something free!

I'm not saying that EQN will be out this year, but I'm going to be shocked if it's not out in the 1st or 2nd quarter of next.

Can someone please explain to me whats the landmark? it is whole new game with building and destroy like minecraft? its a tool/game that u can make things/buildings etc etc and then somehow put in the Main game (EQN)??

What about the release? they gonna Release first the landmark thing this winter and then EQN or both are gonna be released by the end of the year?

Or they plan to release the landmark later this year and start making stuff that they put later in EQN so still EQN release is completely in unwkonwn?

Just a bit confused still by these 2..................

  • KeluianKeluian Member UncommonPosts: 14

The way they put it, Landmark is a tool to build and potentially SELL things to other people. These also may wind up put into the actual world of Norrath. It is very much like minecraft, they even say so in the video on their site, but has the ability yo smooth textures etc.

Landmark will be released this winter. It will come out first for sure. EQN no release date at this time.

Maybe some people think real looking isnt ugly?

Character models.. copy paste of my post from another thread...

I guess cartoony gfx works better in mmorpgs than realistic because the camera is 3rd person and further away, so if the character features are not exaggerated (cartoony) every character of same race and sex would look the same, except armor off course.

So for what I think so far....about EQN

Graphic = Childish wowish carttony = BAD

Characters = wowish and very rudimentary for a AAA names of 2014 year ?? OMG (BAD))

No levels = so im forced to go and pve ,running around  237423489  days to find a spell or a new attack ??? some people want just to pvp and maybe grind and dont care about story or pve !!! = (BAD)

Destroy things = Something new in a mmo (good)

Everquest Landmark ?!?! = WTF whoa asked for this  ? we want a great game to enjoy, not to assist or build the game.. = BAD

Multi class = It can be interesting = good

Roundtable = it should eb a damn forum where 10 devs make pools and stay and talk with people not what it is atm..but still is a good think = good

The game is not for me , I expect way more form a AAA sandobox mmorpg..

    Opinions, opinions and more opinions...

Why is that people today sorta have this urge to share their personal opinions with the rest of the world and talking like what they're saying are facts? :/

From what I read of the OP, a lot of your problem has to do with incorrect assumptions and failed listening skills.  Many of the things you complain about, such as "penis towers" will be deleted by CSRs and this was pointed out in the livestream.  My guess is that they will have a nice system in place for this, since the game is multiplayer and they host the servers.

Also, not everything people make in Landmark is going to show up in EQN.  They have to be approved by the devs, and I doubt they are going to approve anything that doesn't go perfectly with the existing game and is of very high quality.  Similar tools already exist for EQ and EQ2, and they don't have ridiculous items in the game proper.

Landmark is also going to allow them to debug the destructable aspect of the game, with a  player load on it, and allow them to create more tools for our future use in player housing and other things.  The devs of Star Citizen are releasing parts of their game like this as well, to debug them.  We are getting hangers this summer, and in the Winter, they want to release dog-fighting before the MMO features are put out.  It's brilliant from a testing perspective, and it keeps the player base interested in the game.

It's going to be good for voxel game lovers too, because it's going to push that genre of games forward.

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

At this point Im not sure what to think of EQN at all really.....It sounds like they are taking things that are popular now and trying to make their money off of them....The landmark builder sounds like they are trying to totally ripoff Minecraft's success......Its something I have no interest in and Im sure Im not the only one.....

Good: Looks like a lively colorful world

Bad: 40 classes and multiclassing...Doesnt sound like everquest and who knows if hte classes are even relevant

Ugly: It feels like they totally abandoned their EQ faithful on this....really it feels like it should have had a totally different name and nothing to do with EQ......I might have received it better if they named it Blockheadland or something else, but once they went through this song and dance on how they were returning to what made EQ great, it makes EQN look like a joke.
